This point is not true. For example, the game Sayonara Wild Hearts is on Apple Arcade. But you can also purchase it standalone on Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox.

Edit: For your Exit the Gungeon example, in addition to being on Apple Arcade, it is also available to purchase on Steam (for Windows, MacOS and Linux), PlayStation, Switch, Xbox, Google Stadia, and Amazon Luna. I think they covered everything.
By exclusivity I mean for Apple devices, which is what I cover in the redundancy portion. If you want to own these games on your Mac, the Mac versions are not for sale on Steam. Only the Windows versions. Mac versions are only available on Apple Arcade.

I am not sure that's the reason people hate Arcade. In fact, many people love the model of a $5 subscription to so many games with no ads and no IAP. What they hate is that most of the games are trash, but the selection of games, of course, is the most crucial part in the first place.

It's just another subscription scam. Just allow people to buy the game instead of looping it into a subscription service designed with the hope that people forget to cancel so they make money off nothing.

Apple Arcade is nothing more than glorified iOS dreck and further proof that Apple cares nothing for gaming or gamers.

Like I always say, anyone who's serious about gaming doesn't use anything from Apple.
Well that's not true. I use a Macbook Pro as my daily driver and there's a lot of gamers who use Macs as their editing machines or daily drivers.

Now actually playing games on the Macs, yeah no lmao. It's cool that things like CrossOver got God of War and GTA5 running on Mac, but it's more a novelty than actually practical.

Hol up: That exclusivity model is the same as the big games on consoles are. Zelda and Metroid stay on Nintendo. God of War on PS. Gears on XBox.

While your other stated points may or may not have some merit, the "it's dumb that these games are Apple exclusives" is a logical fallacy since all of the other major game platforms have their own exclusives.

Bizarre how some games on the ios iPhone /iPad are approaching high end consoles in graphics etc while the apple arcade seems stuck in a sub Nintendo switch never land ( actually that's a bit of an insult to the switch ) especially considering the potential horsepower of the apple tv ...

Once again I would like to remind the members of MacRumors to FULLY READ MY POST! I said, many times, they are only on Apple Arcade with no way to buy them on Mac or iOS. You have to be subscribed to play these games, which is the problem.

I need to clarify then. Gamers do use Macs/iPhones etc - they are great devices after all.

However for gaming, Macs are not and most gamers look elsewhere

Wow the hate is strong with Apple Arcade. Not every service Apple offers has to be for you, that doesn't make it bad.

Apple Arcade provides a good selection of games with no ads and doesn't constantly bug you for IAP. It is a godsend for those of us who entertain/have kids. My friends daughter (7) has a blast playing Sneaky Sasquatch, the Lego games, the Crayola game, Song Pop Party, various cooking/assembly games. Even some of the "old" games like Tiny Wings, Super Stickman Golf, Angry Birds, Cut the Rope, Fruit Ninja are new to her. She doesn't care if they were originally out before she was born. And again - it is just $5 a month and can be shared with Family!

I literally have hundreds of games (PS/Xbox/Atari etc.) I've purchased over the years at $50+ each that I no longer play, or even barely played anyway because they ended up being crudy. For the price of one of those I get a whole year of games I (or my "kids") enjoy. Usually after a certain amount of time you stop playing games you purchased too or they are no longer supported etc. Pretty much all the games I purchase in the earlier days of iOS are no longer playable. So every game you buy really is just a rental anyway.

We enjoyed the first version of Jetpack Joyride, I'm sure we will enjoy this one.

Oh yay, another crummy, basic as hell "game". Apple Arcade really is awful.
I think Apple Arcade is meant for families who can set up their kids’ devices and not have to worry about i.e. pay to win or weirded adds popping up. I agree, the games don’t speak to me, but I’m not sure I am the target audience.

I have tested all 200 plus games and found over 100 that I liked. Played the original Jetpack game for that classic arcade experience. I don't like the games that get into a story mode or the graphics are 8-bit for being lazy. It is part of Apple One for me and I tend to a few games regularly and wish I had more time to play all of the game I liked.

Lego Star Wars for me is worth $5 a month for me alone for the challenging online gameplay.
That is easy. First Apple One makes the cost invisible for me. Second, Apple is always adding new games. I have purchased tons of games on iOS and I prefer not having Ads and pay to win features in the games. Some of the recent Apple Arcade games have been really high quality.

I've had my Jetpack Joyride 1 save file for about 2 years so far. I've had a lot of fun completing events and collecting stuff and they are still releasing new content even now. I love the humor too. It's a particularly nice thing to have available when trying to get through some boring and/or depressing video to keep me able to pay attention. I like taking it outside when my lizard is exploring the patio.

I was very excited when Jetpack Joyride 2 finally came out. Been looking forward to it for a long time. I had a huge amount of fun with it last night and ended up being awake until 6am with it. I was much too busy enjoying the game to pay attention to the news until now. So I'm only now reading the articles on its release.

Apparently, I was supposed to be very angry that this game is available to anyone because the first game is old, and old games are apparently bad games. I played Jet Force Gemini for the Nintendo 64 for the very first time about a month ago and I had a blast. I don't see why ANY game is automatically undesirable to play just because it is old, let alone a mobile game where graphics often do not advance the way they do on consoles. Furthermore, I don't see why old prequels have anything to do with anything. The very first Legend of Zelda game came out before I was even born. Does that mean I'm not allowed to like any of the later Zelda games because of that?

It's amazing how unreasonable people can be sometimes.

If Apple Arcade didn't have the word "Apple" in it, no one would give it a second glance. This is brand idolatry leading to a lot of apologizing for a terribad product. Games can be so much more, so much better, than what Apple Arcade promotes as "entertainment."

You can like what you like, no one can take that away from you, but don't be surprised if some of us have higher standards for how we spend our limited entertainment money and time. The only "unreasonable" here is people acting surprised that gaming, like everything, has an enormous range of experiences. Just because Apple platforms are largely left out of the broader gaming universe doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. Celebrating Apple Arcade is essentially justifying Apple's fearful, not-invented-here approach to gaming that has held the platform back for 40 years.

Yeah, that is fair. I probably would not have considered it if it wasn't Apple to even try it. So far, I never felt like it wasn't worth $5 dollars even I actually had to pay that.

It's worth $5 a month for how long? 10 months... 6 years? that's an expensive commitment if you ask me. And what do you own at the end of it?
That's actually why I use the service the way that I do. There are six or seven games on it that I play on my Mac and three or four on my phone (not counting games that I have finished). I turn on the service for the months of the year that I want to play those particular games (Im too busy to seriously game most months of the year). I maybe pay for two ore three months a year, and get a lot of use out of it when I have it active. The game states are saved as they were when the account was active.

It ends up being a good deal.

I understand what you are saying. Basically gaming with Apple Arcade would be like someone using DOS and Doom compared to someone using a modern OS and playing GTA 5. Microsoft and Sony games you get more value for your money and time. That makes sense.

I get that I’m pretty strident about this subject so I appreciate you looking past my unreasonable bluster and considering my broader points, BornAgainMac. 😁
