other than the obvious...

Other than the obvious hardware and streaming there are two major things that beats would offer to Apple:

1) Beats audio made the best in phone speakers collaborating with HTC on the One (m7) period. If Apple wants good iPad or iPhone speakers...also incidentally beats is no longer available on the new HTC one? Coincidence?

2) Finally beats is sold in Europe in cars now, and probably soon in the US too, this along with the iPod/phone integration gives Apple a lot of control over in car audio.

Edit: C'mon Arn, here's your chance to start a new rumor on the reason behind the aquisition!

Lol.

So WWDC will be hip..

This will be a laugh... For once, Tim Cook will be "with it"

It happened with a few other companies, everyone loves money.

You have no clue what trap music is. get over yourself.

Trap music is Electronic 808 beats with Hip Hop roots. So what were you saying about me not knowing about TRAP music?

----------

You didn't make a joke.

Yeah you African Americans need to chill out it is not always about race.

----------

You have no clue what you're talking about in every post you made on this topic. You just sound like a closet racist that's mad that these rappers are doing better than you. Racists are seeing the world closing in on them and they don't know how to handle it.

So if I do not agree with a music it makes me a racist? Do all African American make excuses for their skin color or race as world problem still? Talk about people who are still so close minded that they still have to use the race card for every problem they just can not solve. I feel sorry for people who still think the word "GHETTO" is only meant towards a specific race when the word has nothing to do with race but in a world where people still fill they are minorities I could see why people have a hard differentiating the definition "GHETTO".

Trap is good and you are saying I hate something so everyone must hate it.

It would be hilarious if Apple's pre event music selection takes a dramatic shift from Beatles and Coldplay to wall-to-wall Gangsta Rap.

If it does, that would be the saddest day for Apple since Steve died.

----------

Then go away

----------

If you question ANYTHING a black man does you are racist. That's how far this country has declined.

Pretty much but you could add "& Gay" and you'd be 100% correct.

High fidelity audio iOS 8...

I wonder if such a feature will be available for iPhone 5S.

I don't think the Beats acquisition will be done in time do deliver new "apple" branded products, which means that either Apple will stick to current headphones or that Apple will heavily promote Beats headphones in their stores (online or not).

Or that they already had something in the pipeline, not taking into account their purchase of Beats.

High fidelity audio sounds good to me (ha) but the question is: how much space will these files eat up?
Will apple leverage on the acquisition of the company (can't remember the name though) that was working in the field of file compression?
Will this require a new file system?
Will this mean that new "storage tiers" will be made available (starting at 32 GB bare minimum and having a 128 GB iPhone 6 as an option?)

This is interesting because:
- Apple is negotiating a price increase of the basis iPhone 6 with carriers (could mean more storage available)
- Better music
- Better camera (pictures and movies become bigger)

All of this leads me to think the new iPhone will have more storage.
And eat bandwidth when listening to iTunes Radio in High fidelity... Carriers smell opportunity for selling more data related subscriptions (also iCloud will take more and more of a central role, with all the data exchange involved (such as Photostream)

So Beats only has 110K subscribers (who knows how many are actually paying). But if this low royalty rate transfers to Apple that might be what they're willing to spend $3B on.

That's fine. I was just questioning why you're going thread to thread asking the same question. Like I said, I myself have answered you twice and you've asked at least 4 or 5 times.

Are you looking for a specific answer?

He is looking for some thumbs up and love on his posts.

It is fascinating to watch the meltdowns of people here or the Internet on anything Apple does.

It is not so any of Apple's products invite to a high fidelity extravaganza experience -to the simple fact of not supporting FLAC or similar unbiased formats. However, it works for commuting with a pair of decent headsets.

That said if you really think Beats is so fantastic, from an acoustic point of view, you do need to consult with this website http://www.oticon.com as never have music been twisted and distorted so much. They make violins sounds like over tuned banjos... I did try a number of them, indeed for rap or such organized acoustic noise where anybody deprived of any musical talent can participate. -Perhaps I should combine the audio experience with crack or something making me complete numb to understand the high praising of the sound quality and actual fitting. I am sure with just a few seconds comparing these noise generators with a entry level product from Beyer Dynamic or Sennheiser would wipeout any beats products in a few bpm. But the world want to be deceived by fancy marketing stunts, and not simple facts of quality and accuracy.

As a Apple fan boy for a very long time, it is indeed not a brand i would like to be associated with in any aspect. A complete down grade of class and style that Apple represent.

If iTunes was upgraded to deliver FLAC formatted music, a long list on new customers would be inline.

If it was for the subscribers I am sure there are other option

If it was for the hardware, then I am sure the design and product quality could be fixed although it would mean starting from scratch to get the esthetics right.

If for the acoustics of the hardware I have to refer to this website again http://www.oticon.com which can fix the hearing capabilities of the decision makers.

It will be an other "Ping" or iPhone/Motorola mistake seems like the "bug" list is getting longer.

This kind of thing really irks me. Apple professes to be this moral company which is saving the environment and for equality and blah blah, and here they are going to have a Gangster Rapper who sings about Killing and other vile things that is just plain evil. Money above morals.

I have some serious doubts about whether or not this document is genuine. My favorite part of the linked article is where it say "Somebody sent us this document. This is real." Well I guess that clears things up. Since Beats is not a publicly traded company, they have no obligation to report their subscriber numbers so how would anyone know?

Got new for ya, you can already buy all of that music on iTunes and they've been there for years. This does not represent a change.

----------

I found this guy's supposed 'industry insider' view when I Googled for more details of the rumoured acquisition. He raises some very good points, but ultimately comes across like the kind of Apple-doomer that frequented this forum for the iPod/iPhone/iPad launch, etc., in my opinion.

See what you think.

http://lefsetz.com/wordpress/index.php/archives/2014/05/11/applebeats/

He contradicts himself massively in the article. He correctly points out that Apple should have started this type of service long ago and as a result they're trailing behind everyone else. He then argues that Apple is a hardware company and should stick to that.

I agree. Plus he echoes the sentiment that Tim is "purely an operations guy" that "only delivers numbers". That's true, but then he goes on to discredit Ive, yet he was the only one Jobs allowed free reign! He also references Apple favours function over form, yet many would argue it's the other way around.

His points about Apple lagging behind in streaming are accurate, as they fear they'll lose their industry dominance. I also agree with him that they're paying a lot just to get Iovine on board, with his own industry influence being very useful to them.

Sorry I chose to not to engage those that are specifically racist because they don't deserve to be engaged they deserve to be reported. But I've seen elsewhere (and John Gruber talked about it on his podcast today) this notion that if one is skeptical about this acquisition there has to be a racial aspect to it. I think that is ridiculous. People can have legitimate questions, can be legitimately skeptical without bringing race into it. CNBC's Jon Fortt is one, for example. And he's a black man.

Can't argue with you there. If someone says that anyone who disagrees with this is a racist, theyre idiots.

PC brigade in full swing

Some idiots here are suggesting that its racist not liking RAP or having an opinion about music! What nonsensical cretins.

I don’t like the idea of Apple being linked to rap music because I find most rap music is mindless, offensive and tuneless. I dont want to be associated with gangs, drugs, killings, prison or anything to do with that lifestyle. Full Stop. As far as I am concerned rappers skin can be made up of pink and yellow fluffy balls and come from Mars. There is no subliminal message other than I don’t like those ideals, principles or standards so please stop trying to censor peoples thoughts.

Quite normal ones choice of products being linked to your lifestyle and your beliefs, we all do this in our everyday lives conscientiously or not. That’s how product brands create their own market niches. Apple being one of them!

I don’t like the garish beats headphones I think people look like idiots when they walk around with them and they have nothing to do with the quality of the music or sound. Its all about the lifestyle and the fashion that goes with it.

Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre May Make First Official Appearance at Apple's WWDC

So much exaggeration in here.

That was circa 1990s, he's not about that life anymore lol. All businessman.

Well, according to the lyrics websites, he released detox in 2014, in which the song "topless" sings about girls with their boobs hanging out and he is the shooting kind.

The song Under Pressure speaks about getting high, he's a weedhead, and he's living his mother***** life.

The song Mr. Perscription talks about him getting high again and having sex with women.

So, I'm sorry but I just don't think that this guy has grown up at all. It's not someone I would want to represent my company.

That certainly is true. I certainly wish they wouldn't sell this kind of music on itunes.

I think it's a little different now, though, since Dr. Dre is going to be representing apple publicly.

It makes them racist by associating and validating a person that makes openly racist comments. There is no place in the world for that word, no matter of the skin color of the person saying it. It's disgusting. I would rather not glorify a company associating with this type of individual and rewarding him. Sorry.

Looks like you'll have to buy a phone developed by a company that meets your level of self-righteous indignation.

HAha just imagine the headline

Dr.Dre introduces the new Mac OS!

Mac-10!

iGangsta.

I get it...he's black so he must kill people. Yep, not racist.

----------

3.2 billion...

not for some cutting edge japanese A.I. or Robotics company making the great, amazing innovative strides, companies who desperately need the resources to bring the brilliant sci-fi future to our lives sooner, but...

cheap headphones. when they already supply the world with their own cheap headphones.

3.2 billion...

One uninspiring development after another, like another company run by bean counters...

This is my favorite dishonest portrayal of the Beats thing. Apple has spent billions on acquiring tech firms and tens of billions on in house research; however if they buy Beats people get to pretend that its the only thing they've ever invested in.

1. Detox didn't release. Nor will it ever, especially now.

2. What's wrong with boobies? And the shooting kind? Maybe he likes guns and isn't afraid to use them when needed. Sounds like almost everyone in the NRA to me, but are you upset about them?

3. Steve Jobs liked weed. Dre may still like weed. Weed can also be acquired and smoked legally in many sections of the U.S. It's weed man......weed. In 2014.

4. Sex with women??? THE HORROR!!!!! Steve Jobs had sex with women and fostered an illegitimate child who he didn't acknowledge for much of her life.

5. If you're this up in arms over rap music being sold on iTunes, I hope you're ready to boycott all the rock, pop and other types of music that sell sex, drugs, etc.

What? Are you seriously suggesting that Apple is trying to make money? I refuse to believe that the most profitable company ever is trying to make money.

Also, why do you "recon" Apple doesn't care about the service?
