In other words Jimmy thinks women are stupid.

Is that what you took away from the quote? I sounded to me like he was trying to solve a problem some girls have... when they're sitting around talking or heartbroken, it is helpful to have an easy way to listen to a playlist that fits with their mood, and that is what Apple Music provides. He's not saying all girls do is talk about boys or are shallow, I think he was giving a real example (most girls do this) and providing a solution to the problem of not being able to instantly procure a fitting playlist. Unless you were being sarcastic, which seems more likely.

From my experience with Apple Music , both males and females are too stupid to use the awesome UI!!

This is a media beat up!

There's a difference between him just saying "Girls have a hard time finding music." and what he actually said, which was "Girls in _____ situation may have a hard time finding the right music for _______ moments"

You have to have a real PC agenda and try really hard to find something offensive about what he said and meant.

It's just another in an endless string of paternalistic condescension that women have endured since forever.

I get that he didn't mean anything wrong by it. But that's part of the issue ... good intentioned people who don't understand the subtext of their own messages.

Perhaps the blowback will help spark a little more self-awareness in the future for Mr. Iovine.

I am honestly curious why.

I'm a dude. This guy thinks I'm better at finding music and you're worse at it.

Because of our genders alone.

That honesty doesn't bother you? Do you think it's true?

So... the one who "should" be offended, since she's part of the "offended" class, isn't, but someone who shouldn't be offended is trying to check why the one who he thinks should be, isn't?

Did I get that right?

I think that may have driven me insane.

He shouldn't have specifically said it was directly targeted towards women. If he didn't do that, we wouldn't be having this discussion right now.

I just laughed when I saw the news story on The Verge.
And how do you propose he do that when the ad only featured women?

Why "shouldn't" I be offended?

I have a daughter. She's great with technology. You're saying I "shouldn't" be proud of that fact and tell the world?

Because she is and I love saying so, even if you think I shouldn't. She's not worse at finding music than anyone else.

I'm thinking that the way people are perceiving this is more indicative of what goes on between their ears than what is going on between Jimmy Io's ears. The way I read it is, "picture a woman in this situation", and he describes the first 10-15 minutes of your basic romantic comedy. The way the SJW's are reading it is "Honey go fix me a drink and get back to your knitting."

Maybe the guy should speak his mind and do his job to the best of his ability, and only worry about it if he suddenly drops an F bomb against his will. If I were in his position I wouldn't apologize. I definitely wouldn't explain myself. I'd simply say "grow up".

You forgot the /s tag.

Seriously? Give me a break. He was just citing a situation. He could have used 'boys' and would there be outrage?

Would you have the same response and reaction? NO.

Where did Io say your daughter would be worse at finding music? Please show us, we'll wait here. While you're looking, perhaps come up with a good way to explain the quantum leap you made from Io talking about making it easier for a distraught person to build a mixtape, to how much of a slight that it is for him to make that suggestion personally to your daughter.

this makes it clear you have to be hyper careful everything you say when in a room of women these days. they will find a flaw in anything.

No, not just women. There are men yelling about it just as much. If he said 'boys' though, they'd be dead silent. Hypocrites.

My Girlfriend makes me playlists.

He gave an on the spot use case, he wasn't saying that it can't happen in reverse, our even a gay guy could setup a playlist for his boyfriend, our even a friend could create a playlist for a friend. Even a brother could setup a playlist for his sister or the otherway round.

Gender adds much context when providing an example use case, unfortuantly we live in a society where everything is offensive and personal.
