If you read the actual quote, it's pretty obvious he's not saying that women are uniquely bad at finding music. He just took the Mary J. Blige's metaphor of the boyfriend into too much detail and made it awkward. Hopefully this doesn't get blown out of proportion.

Men don't usually like to be referred to as boys.

I think that would make him a poor spokesboy if he did that.
His comments seemed to be targeted to teen girls, not teen woman. Teen girls are typically always emotional over some boy that did them wrong. AKA Taylor Swift.

Source: I was once a teen boy and broke a heart or two.

OMFG. Get over. Way too hypersensitive Society we live in is a joke.

For the record I up-voted this because I very much agree. What kills me is this: Look at the amount of up votes you have for this comment. It leads me to believe that most of our society still maintains some level of common sense....yet every time some one gives a crossways look at someone else, a new victim is born, social media goes absolutely batsh*t, and someone else who said something 98% innocent starts getting crucified.

It's ridiculous. Most people need to get over themselves. Those in the minority on one side of an issue / way of thinking on any issue very much deserve to have their voice heard, but when a small percentage of idiots seemingly dictate right and wrong to an entire society we have a huge problem. Correction: we live in that problem now.

Why should I let someone else's opinion have power over me?

I like how if it's a story about stock options or Apple Watches or something then everyone is allowed to think something about it. But when it comes to anything having to do with people and society then, dear god, you'd better not have an opinion!

Please note that all these posters here are not telling me my opinion is the wrong one. They're telling me that having any opinion on this story is bad. There's very few people here telling me that they agree with Jimmy. Just that we shouldn't be thinking or talking about it.

I'd be happier if someone would just push back and tell me they agree with him. That they think it too. That's at least better than this vast black hole of "don't talk about it!"

At worst, I'll shrug my shoulders.

Yep. That's how we all react to iPhone announcements, right? "Hey, guys, people are dying in France. Why are we talking about iPhones? We should be talking about more important things."

Sure...

The vast majority of people would scratch their heads and move on. Maybe ask for clarification. But not instantly get "offended".

But that is what the vast majority of people have done in this case. A few dissenting voices emerge and suddenly get conflated to represent more than that.

It's a vicious cycle. They can't ignore a minor offense. You can't ignore a few people voicing that offense.

But they're the problem, right?

The problem with people today is boredom. We don't have to hunt for food or skin animals to stay warm. Most of us don't chop down trees or build our own homes or farm the land. We live far longer than we used to. We eat rich gourmet food 7 days a week. Everything we could possibly want, we get, with free overnight shipping.

But all the energy we USED to exert just trying to stay alive still needs an outlet, because our cave man brains haven't quite caught up with the reality of modern life. So what's a homo sapien do with this surplus of energy? Burn it off, with outrage and indignation over the slightest infraction from everyone and anyone.

It fills us with a false sense of purpose, when we really have none. It coats our souls with a gooey layer of superiority. Somewhere along the line, we became lulled into thinking we can be part of the solution by merely pounding our fists.

People who roam the planet looking for things to become outraged and indignant over are nothing more than frustrated cave men with no gazelles to chase.

Add to this: american hypocrisy and prudery.
Well... You know what? Actually Einstein's quote is enough.

o_O So women are hypocrites if they don't defend men being patronized as staunchly as when women are?

A) Yes, if its' so offensive, then the gender shouldn't matter, the statement should be judged the same no matter what the gender M or F.

B) He wasn't patronizing anyone. Only people who want something to be offended by interpret his comment that way.

I am honestly curious why.

I'm a dude. This guy thinks I'm better at finding music and you're worse at it.

Because of our genders alone.

That honesty doesn't bother you? Do you think it's true?

Dude, who cares? I mean, what a miserable life I would have if I lower my bar that much regarding tolerance. Specially when the example is very realistic. Guys spend way more time in tech things, and you better!

I have an iPhone 5 and i haven't add an app in 6 months or so. Still I am a manager at a multichannel network, my job is to make the geeks work and to take care of the clients.

But again... there is nothing relevant in that article, the comment was even funny.

Regarding finding music... I have more important things to do in life. I wonder if that man has the appropriate manners when seating on the table and if he is good in a relationship and if he knows how to listen and please a woman. Then lets see if the music searching issue is even relevant.

Nobody ignores anything these days. And social media makes for the perfect environment to vent over every little peeve that irritates us ... just as you're venting right now about this little peeve.

If YOU can't ignore it, why would you ask others to do what you are incapable of doing yourself?

The problem with the internet these days is the gang mentality and the bullying that goes along with it. South Park has hit the nail on the head this season.

I seriously dare you to go into any video game forum and post that "boys sometimes have trouble with [insert any technology here]."

You think that would go well?

LOL good point, but would it be an issue if Iovine said the same statement about men? Nope, not at all. The same people complaining now would be dead silent.

Okay. But there's a chorus of bullying voices in this thread as well.

Can you hear them?

Let the phony outrage begin!

Seriously, how many of us old-timers made carefully curated mixtapes for their girlfriends back in the day? He's simply speaking from his point of view and any sane reader should have the capacity (and willingness) to adjust and apply what he says to their own lives.

Wish I could upvote this until I felt like stopping. Seriously.

Wait!!!! No, I'm really sorry I just offended everyone who would downvote this if the button existed, my sincerest apologies...... / so much sarcasm

Don't remind me please!!
Also, he reminds me of the banshees I used to chase lol.

I saw one person imply that you shouldn't have an opinion on this. So no, "all these posters" aren't saying that having an opinion on this is bad.

I'm not even sure what you mean by bringing iPhones and terrorism into this. All I'm trying to say is that it's not good to let other people's opinions get to you.

With proper demeanor, there is nothing wrong with pointing out something you find offensive, and someone else subsequently taking issue with the fact that you find said thing offensive. It's good to have discussions like that, because it helps create middle ground in what has become such a polarized world. I'm right and you're the cause of everything bad in the world because you don't think exactly how I think, you know what I mean? :D

Wasn't directed at you. Others here have mentioned that this shouldn't be a story on MacRumors because of what's going on with France.

I agree, I have no idea what the two have to do with each other either. That's what I was trying to get at.

And... that's why I don't read The Verge anymore, they've let social justice warriors and feminazi sentiment plague their editorial, and hence they've had to disable comments, because users rightfully complained about the highly controversial opinionated misleading articles they were spewing out.

If we take a closer look at this "controversy", this is taken out of context. Jimmy is specifically talking about the new ad which features 3 women and I suppose the ad is targeting a women audience more than men. Hence his comments are limited in scope to the ad and audience, it doesn't mean he's sexist or anything. If someone wants to take issue with this, then take issue with Apple's ad, not Jimmy.

Oh, I see what you're saying now. Yeah, I'm not a big fan of the "bigger event happening means you can't talk about or do anything else" mentality. As if we're not capable organisms that have the mental capacity to prioritize and act on multiple events.
