Seriously, enough of this guy. He's the same guy that was on the soap box a couple of years ago when Apple Music first came out, trashing competitors for terrible music interfaces, only to see Apple Music have to be completely revamped a year later because of the terrible interface.

Iovine is really the epitome of AppleThink in the Cook era.

Well put!

I am not going to pretend to know much about this guy, but from what I have gathered, he seems like the epitomized culmination of all the worst parts of tech-startup/buzzfeed/"disrupter" culture. Trying to force a cultural relevance without the actual relevant product.

Jimmy all that.

At least for me.

As for iTunes, just split it up already.
Too many things to do for one app.
I use Siri everyday for music and it works great. Maybe you aren't hold it right?:p I also use it for Hue lights, setting reminders, alarms, finding out when my team plays, etc.. all work great.

Steve Jobs would've never Jimmy Iovine talks about Apple Music in a Variety interview.

Apple Music is woeful, a convoluted and cluttered UI that doesn't allow the focus to be on the content. Someone said that Spotify focuses on playlists and not records? I'm sorry but I search for albums and add each album as its own playlist so I have multiple records available. Spotify is simple and effective.

I'd still love to know what this guy or Eddy Cue either one do to deserve the ridiculous amount of pay that they receive. It sure hasn't been anything substantive for Apple's customers anyway.

I'm a big fan of Apple Music and Beats1. The DJs as expert curators for discovery are quite a good idea. I'd like to see them carry this thinking over to more of their services; which iOS games would games industry leaders curate? Which movies does Spielberg like? Which Apps do (Oprah? Tony Robbins?) use? Finding books for my 4 year old is already much easier on iBooks than Amazon because of the curated collections. In an age of too much content, curation plays an important role. Expert curators I trust are in invaluable way of cutting through the noise.

I do have my concerns about how Apple is going to handle show content. My preferred method would be for them to launch their own network on their devices. As a cord cutter, I'd like to be able to still tune in and see original programming without searching for stuff. I want to tune in and see news, or saturday morning cartoons, or live events. Apple could make that happen and I think paying for one fantastic LIVE TV network in addition to my Netflix sounds like a really good idea.

Apple Music isn't a service, it was like a virus on my iPhone, constantly badgering me to listen to what Apple want me to listen to instead of letting me choose, ruining all my album artwork and Beats 1?? Is there a worse radio station on the planet?? I wouldn't mind if Beats 1 it was an option you could turn off but it's on force touch, the Watch & it's garbage. Does it ever play anything other than R'n'B ? I chose Apple as a means to play music I want to listen to, not to be strong armed into listening to rubbish I don't like. I now switch between the Apple app, Ecoute and Spotify. I want an iPod classic option so I can listen to some music. All I want to do is choose what I want to listen to and listen to it. Apple have ruined this experience for me

They push that garbage so hard.

Also, I noticed that half the songs I put on my phone would mysteriously no longer play, they'd just skip over and you'd briefly see it as it skipped past (and became impossible to back-track). So fishy.

Jimmy Iovine, who leads Apple Music alongside Eddy Cue, Dr. Dre, Trent Reznor, and Larry Jackson, recently sat down for a wide-ranging interview with Variety covering everything from Apple's goals with the streaming service to its experimentation with exclusives.

Though Jimmy Iovine has no official title at Apple, going by just "Jimmy," he has negotiated many of the streaming deals for the service and has been a key team member since Apple purchased Beats Music in 2014. "Apple, of all the global tech companies, was the one that understood why artists make things," Iovine said, explaining why he had a close relationship with Apple even before the acquisition.

Since its debut, Apple Music has grown to 20 million subscribers, with 10 million added in 2016 alone. Much of that can be attributed to Apple's evolving focus, first on exclusives and now on video. Apple is adding original content to Apple Music, in the form of two TV shows - a reality series based on Carpool Karaoke and drama that will star Dr. Dre.

Iovine wouldn't go into detail about Apple's future plans for original content, but he explained that Apple's goal is to make Apple Music "a cultural point of reference." He says Apple's work on original content shouldn't be compared to other entertainment companies like Netflix. On the topic of exclusive content, which has created conflict between Apple and both its competitors and record labels, Iovine says Apple is "just experimenting." He says his work with Apple hasn't caused problems with former colleagues in the music business, despite the bitterness over exclusive content.According to Iovine, the key to Apple's continued success in the music industry is an ability to "speak both languages," referring to the harmonizing of technology and music. He believes there's room in the streaming music industry for many companies, as long as "streaming is done right," with each service being culturally different with a unique feel. "Yeah, they all have the same catalog," he said." But what we're doing is we're just building on top of that. That's where the personality and the feel will come from."

Iovine's full interview, which covers a range of additional topics like his childhood, early jobs, close relationship with Dr. Dre, the founding of Beats Music, Beats 1 Radio, and subscription streaming models, can be read over at Variety and is worth checking out for those who want an inside look at Apple Music.

Wanna talk about 'harmonizing of technology and music', please allow Spotify into Siri and let me choose the service I use. Until then this is all hypocritical baloney.

how about fixing and making the current app version easier and more logical to use?! The only reason why i use Apple Music is because Spotify isnt, yet, available in my country. The day it becomes, i'll gladly use it. I'm really sick of this stupid piece of crap that they dare to call Apple music app.

It would serve everyone better if Apple Music was its own app, and there was a "Your Music" app for people who have actual music libraries.

I wish I could tolerate this person's appearance better. (yeah, I'm being judgmental).
At least he dropped the backward cap which just made him look like an ol" man trying to look like a kid. Sorry
Thought the same. When I saw the photo with this story, I immediately thought 'ego'.

Make it so that the apple watch can sync more than only 1 playlist. How is the apple watch a good running device when I can only sync a single playlist. So disappointed with this on the apple watch series 2.
