I think its time to start paying the artists more. Artists require a bigger cut considering they actually make all the content.

unless apple starts charging more or labels give up most of the share, artists aren't going to make that much more.

if apple charges more, people will move to spotify which pays out less to artists than apple. and they'll make even less $$$.

and there's no way labels are going to give up more.

even if apple + labels give up some of their profits, it's not going to astronomically raise the payment to the artist. it's just the way the model is set up. make good content that people will listen to, and you'll get paid much more in the long run. make content that no one wants, then you'll have to find another career. apple music's platform is setup to make sure this is true even more so: to make sure that artists don't get left behind just because listeners couldn't discover their music.

Another Flapple (Apple Flop). Company is going down the drain. Dated hardware, half-baked software updates, 3rd rate apps (Maps, Music, etc). I believe Main Street is just now starting to realize Apple is the company of yesterday.

They actually took my music away from me (in a sense). I used to keep all of our music in iTunes. Then, on our various devices (now, w/ new limited storage), we could stream music from that central hub, or download it locally, with a click, to take along with us.

Apple removed that functionality. The only reason seems to be to push me towards subscribing to Apple Music to unlock functionality I already had.

So, now I'm looking for an iTunes replacement... which will join my search for replacing several other Apple products Apple has rendered useless in pursuit of profit-maximization (at the price of UX).

Once complete, I may well be moving off the Apple platform, as the eco-system is mostly eroded or broken... we'll see.

No doubt. They seem to finally be right, by accident.

Jim Dalrymple (who was/is a very big critic of AM) says the curation is getting better. I fear this is like Siri though. Once someone has a bad experience they don't go back and just assume it's always going to be bad.

I agree with Dalrymple but not only for curation... AM service and app just doesn't work very well - even after the latest redesign I still find it a bit awkward.

Also, saying "we are trying to make it a cultural point of reference" sounds like executive speak for "we're trying to be cool".

... maybe he's been hanging around Eddy Cue too much ;) I like to blame everything on Eddy.

Apple Music isn't a service, it was like a virus on my iPhone, constantly badgering me to listen to what Apple want me to listen to instead of letting me choose, ruining all my album artwork and Beats 1?? Is there a worse radio station on the planet?? I wouldn't mind if Beats 1 it was an option you could turn off but it's on force touch, the Watch & it's garbage. Does it ever play anything other than R'n'B ? I chose Apple as a means to play music I want to listen to, not to be strong armed into listening to rubbish I don't like. I now switch between the Apple app, Ecoute and Spotify. I want an iPod classic option so I can listen to some music. All I want to do is choose what I want to listen to and listen to it. Apple have ruined this experience for me
Where are you experiencing this? I rarely deviate from the Library tab and am never bothered by Apple trying to shove anything in my face. I listen to what I want to listen to and that's it.

Side note, I feel an itunes replacement is on the way.

an Tunes replacement will only sees the same things we see now.... a cludge of binging everything to together ether in one app that doesn't work. always

In order to do it right, u need Apple music separate.... Whenever Apple Updates iTunes they break stuff too often not because its hard to do always, but because it's "tightly integrated" services in one app

That integration is always fragile. and as u build on it, it only makes it worse, not better.

Lay everything out separate, then u can find what you want, vs sifting through knots trying untangle them. It's a programmers nightmare

Never has one guy at Apple ever been as useless as this guy.

I don't know.
I think it's a pretty close call on that one.

Does anyone even listen to Beats1 anymore? I feel like Apple Music could have been great but it's disappointed from the very start. Spotify is leaps and bounds ahead of it for me.

You're forgetting the real stabbing bro: Ads on the App Store.

He has no official title? They refer to him just as “Jimmy”? hahahahahaha
He’s like some business owner’s buffoon relative that they keep on the payroll because the relative has connections.

A fun one from Die Antwoord. They left Interscope where Jimmy Iovine was the big dog at the time and included this little ditty on their next album. No love lost between them and Jimmy it seems...

They could call him Dolan.

Hell no. I'm not a fan how Spotify focuses primarily on playlists instead of records. Spotify is like that service you use for gym workout stuff (much better content curation there than on AM, especially when it comes to EDM), but when you really want to discover artists and their full discography, it's hard to top Apple Music.

After all, Apple have been doing music for over a decade.

I don't understand, you search for an album or artist and it is all there, what is the difference, nothing, unless an artist has an exclusive with Apple Music, otherwise if you want to find an album or artist and stream for free, Spotify. Apple should have purchased Spotify, simple but effective interface, good sound quality, free with a few ads.

Hey, those guys, none of them need the money, so it's all about trying to force the term "Apple Music" into the same pop culture reference as the phrase to "Google" something, which is the ego stroke they're looking for (and will get paid for).

As for Apple Music, it has not caught on anywhere near the hopes that Apple had for it after a couple years, as there is a lot of solid, well established streaming services out there. You have to figure it's losing money big time and any other company would've long since stopped throwing resources at it with such little return, all things considered, given the so called horespower they have advising.

I wish I could tolerate this person's appearance better. (yeah, I'm being judgmental).
At least he dropped the backward cap which just made him look like an ol" man trying to look like a kid. Sorry

Anyone should be allowed to dress comfortably, regardless of age.
