Looked liked an accurate representation of AT&T's network haha

I thought the presentation went well considering the issues.

The Verizon comment was priceless though.

agreed. I hope it really gets him thinking. I loved when the phone switched over to data and he scrambled... nay almost squirmed "no I don't want data!" and the phone couldn't connect.... priceless

Again misplaced complaints... Jobs wasn't on the AT&T network. He was over the local LAN Wi-Fi.

Thank you for your enlightened opinion.

Some day when your old and some one says that about you, remember these words.

"turn left at center Isle"

And you suggest doing what instead?

"Gee ladies and gentlemen, Can you please turn off your electronics that are connected to our WiFi network?"

haha, who knows, I personally thought he handled the situation rather well. He is a human (much to some peoples dismay..)

If you're a journalist, you're supposed to report on the news and affect it as little as possible. Since the Gizmodo people consider themselves journalists, I'm sure most the bloggers there thought they were as well.

So when all of these people clogging the air with WiFi cause a demonstration to be ruined, I expect Jobs to be miffed. It would be the same as if someone had a watch that was shooting a glare at Jobs' face or if someone had a cell phone that kept on ringing throughout. These people could've complied like grown-ups and posted something FIVE MINUTES LATER (gasp!) instead of ruining the presentation. The Macworld bloggers were acting like a couple of college kids being told to cross the road at the crosswalk.

He did seem a bit testy.

Understandable, though; considering blogger #1 blurted iPhone 4 to the world a month ago, and now sundry bloggers 2 thru 501+ were screwing up his proper unveiling.

I think he's done with bloggers!

no. his wifi turned off and the phone switched to data. when that happened he got the cannot connect to network message. watch it again

I watched it several times. What are you talking about? The icon never changes from wifi to 3G before he goes on to the photo demo and he never got a "cannot connect to network message"... Go look at the podcast up on Apple.com.

Though it's possible they cut something out of the podcast version, because I don't hear the guy saying "Try Verizon" either. At any rate, while it was on the wifi network, it wasn't downloading the page normally, either... and the cause for that would have nothing to do with 3G connectivity. There may have been separate issues with 3G at the time, but my point still stands. Any issues with the wifi are not really caused by what doubleatheman asserted.

Regardless of the wifi bandwidth available on the local area network, there's a bottleneck potential at the demarc to the LEC circuit.

I’m surprised (but not in a way) that AT&T was blamed for the wifi problem.

That WiFi problem can be placed squarely on all of the bloggers in the sold out audience gobbling up all the bandwidth. It wasn't Apple's fault except for allowing such a group in there to begin with.

So what will they do about the WiFi problems for next year? Forbid the bloggers to use it?

That's cause Everyone plays telephone. They hear one thing then change it to make it so AT&T looks bad. It just proves people will follow the crowed and will just say anything even if not true. Plus as Steve said, AT&T takes More data then all other carriers combined. If there was a vz iPhone vz would no longer be around due to over load. And I mean it's net work wouldn't even work at all.

(typed on iPhone, prob spelling probs)

I think it was things like the MiFi device throwing out a bazillion networks. I think the spectrum has a limit on the number of networks and so the last one on gets the shaft.

I'm not sure of all the specifics, but Apple could set up its own WiFi network and get people to hop on it instead of creating 500 more. More people might be using iPhone tethering the next time, and that's on a different frequency. Maybe Apple should just stream the keynote live and keep every spanker with an opinion and a MacBook from ruining things.

Why not just have ethernet cables for the people to plug into that are sitting down.

Yeah, you keep thinking that.

I went to the A&M / Baylor game in November and my iPhone was as useful as a paperweight at least in the student section. I had to use a friend's Verizon phone to text some friends. Fun game and great time since it was my first Aggie game but AT&T disappointed me. Standing the whole time sucked too. :D Oh, the people with Sprint and T-Mobile also had no issues yet us iPhone users couldn't text. Fail.

I'm not on Verizon BTW right now. Sprint user here.

I'm not sure I entirely believe that it was a wifi issue. He had lots of cabling running on stage and to be honest I think it was a wired network that had a glitch.
