Jobs the pitch man

Plus he is an arrogant jerk, The products are only skin deep. Your pocket book need to be deep also. If they don't know how to design a simple di-pole antenna give it up.

Haha. The video is hilarious. I hope they release this update soon because my phone is mega slow! I can't take it anymore. It's terrible.

I'm sorry but its completely inexcusable. They knew how badly it performed on the 3G, and they intentionally released it anyway (they did NOT have to) hoping to push 3G users to buy the iPhone 4 (guess what? it worked for everyone I know with a 3G that was unfortunate enough to update their phone).

Now they drag it out until the complaints reach boiling point. Then they make the "fix" which won't do much, and from then on the support line will be: "upgrade your phone you troglodyte!"

Windows ME - the "Mistake Edition"

Windows ME. Superb bit of coding.
/s

According to Wikipedia:

Windows Me was criticized by users for its instability and unreliability, due to frequent freezes and crashes. A PC World article dubbed Windows Me the "Mistake Edition" and placed it 4th in their "Worst Tech Products of All Time" feature.[31] "Shortly after Me appeared in late 2000", the article states, "users reported problems installing it, getting it to run, getting it to work with other hardware or software, and getting it to stop running."
The System Restore feature sometimes ended up restoring malware which the user had previously removed, since its method of keeping track of changes is fairly simplistic.[32] By disabling System Restore, the malware could be removed, but the user lost all saved restore points.
System Restore also suffered from a bug in the date-stamping functionality that may cause System Restore to date-stamp snapshots that are taken after 8 September 2001 incorrectly. This can prevent System Restore from locating these snapshots and can cause the system restore process to fail. Microsoft released an update to fix this problem.[33]

Oh, and on top of that Windows ME was based on MS-DOS.

I think that you may have confused "cause" and "effect" here ;) .

Anyway, both old Windows systems and old Apple systems have tons of "oddities" that are fixed in the current version. Let's not devolve the debate to compare Windows and Apple OS from the last century - 10.6 vs Win7 is the only rational comparison.

I still want to know why they chose to release iOS4 for anything other then A4 devices. I refuse to believe that their PQA department would be so incompetent as to not notice how poorly it performs.

Did they honestly think nobody was going to notice or did they figure that by making the 3G into a complete piece of **** for a few months it would push people to buy an iPhone 4?

My hunch would be that when Apple makes an irrational move, it is because the turtlenecked overlord said to "do it".

No other explanations really make sense - as you surmise.

I received an email response from steve jobs a couple days ago regarding the proximity sensor problem. He had the exact same response.
Pretty frustrating he does not understand the phone needs help faster then they are moving.

I don't know what people are complaining about. I have a 2G iPod Touch and it runs iOS4 just fine. 2G iPod isn't any faster than the 3G iPhone.

Wrong. The 2G iPod touch has a faster processor than the original iPhone AND the iPhone 3G. Also, it doesn't run in the Phone app in the background (to be available for incoming calls).

spotlight "fix" on 3g doesn't always work

I don't know why this never gets any attention. It completely fixes the problem.

The spotlight thing did not fix the problem for me.

I finally downgraded to 3.1.3 and I love my 3g again.

As to why not upgrade, 3 reasons:
1. iPhone 4's have manufacturing problems - clearly.
2. Tired of fanboys - especially those in the stores (not all apple employees are fanboys - and girls)
3. Wondering if AT&T will get decent droid phone.

My wife updated and she's nearly fed up and also addicted to folders, so I hope for her sake, there's a decent fix. I don't see myself upgrading from 3.1.3 anytime soon, if at all.

That video is so true!

My experience was much worse that that video demonstrated. It was certainly funny and reasonably representative.

But getting into settings was > 15 seconds most of the time. iPod crashed about 1/3 times (yes, hard reset, restore, all of the above).

Typing was ... well I about threw the thing on the ground 2 times. On the third time I finally bit the bullet and downgraded, love the phone again.

I sure do hope Apple does release a fix for us iPhone 3G Users pretty soon. Going back to 3.x is not an option, as it´s security first for me. iPhone4 is ordered though, should arrive in a few weeks. :)

LMAO that video is hilarious

And this........ is a call.....And this......... is a call, a call, call call call
the music skipping was the real kicker that made me lose it.

i do not think i could hack it having a phone with that performance. If my phone did this to me i would have long since embedded it into the wall.

Worst part of iOS4 on a 3GS is the battery life!!

I am reading all the comments about slowness in this forum. What about the battery life, or lack of it? Since I upgraded (on the day the software was available, YES SIR Captain Jobs!) the (I believe) implementation of multitasking is draining my battery faster than Bill Compton can drain human's blood. I used to get 3 days between charges. Now, with 10 minutes of call time in a day, I am down to 20% or less by 6:00 pm. Anyone else have this issue?

Sure you are right of course. Slowliness isn't the only issue. I downgraded back to 3.1.2 and I will be very very cautious before I would upgrade again. And to be honest - what for ? iAds?

owner of 2 iPhone 3G. About once a week on each iPhone, we have to hard reset them, twice, back to back. This seems to work.

1)Press and hold Home and on/off buttons simultaneously until the phone shuts off for the second time (after the Apple logo goes away).
2)Release the buttons.
3)Turn phone on.
If you did this 2 times in a row, you should be good to go and notice a huge performance improvement.

Seems like iOS4 stores a lot of info in Memory and Cache, so wiping them clean improves performance. Remember, the iPhone is a "computer", shutting them off and allowing them to reset... helps!

There are plenty of "computers" that are capable of running for years, or even decades, without needing a reboot.

You're right, a reboot/reset seems to help with the 3G, but doesn't that remind you of Windows 95/98/ME? Maybe my expectations are too high, but I don't expect that I should have to periodically reboot any device of mine simply because of sloppy programming. I switched away from Microsoft for a reason...

Well the easiest solution for me was just trading the 3G for an HTC HD2 :D. The 3G was already jailbroken since I had to unlock it for T-Mobile. Right before I traded it, I downgraded it back to 3.1.3 and boy was it snappy! The way it should have been in the first place. I almost didn't want to make the trade....

A4 is just an arm CPU. Not very different from the one in the 3g

The iPhone 3G does not support multitasking on iOS 4, so I don't see an obvious connection there.

Personally, I keep assuming much of the additional battery drain is because it takes at least twice as long to do anything because the phone is now so slow. That said, clearly some additional CPU cycles are being wasted on whatever is causing these performance issues, and that wastes power in the process as well.

This video must be kidding!!!

I am in Australia, and not with the national provider, so perhaps the network actually is a factor...

But this video is SOOOOO far under the reality...
- often, my calls do not pass even after many attempts...
- I do not even bother trying to play PvZ anymore, it crashed 4 or 5 times and hungrily drained my battery power, before crashing the phone itself...
- I have had to hard reset it at least 3 or 4 times a day
- iPod crashes 3 times out of 4 when trying to open it, even without anything else running...
- I have turned off my push mail, spotlight, location services
- When I succeed in playing iPod, I check my emails, but I do not even try to used safari...
- typing IS horrendous... I usually type the start of a sentence until I arrive to a character located on alternative keyboard... then wait for between 10 sec and 5 minutes for the characters to appear, then continue typing. Usually the rest of the message can be typed almost normally, but it happens more and more often that the same thing as what I described above happens again, usually in a less painful form.
- Yahoo messenger can take up to 5 minutes to open (with a minimum of 2 minutes)

All in all, I CANNOT wait for iOS4.1 to come out and see whether or not I am going to switch to other handset, iPhone4 is on the list of my preferred ones, but it is out of stock at the moment and I am becoming VERY impatient as it does badly affect my business now!
