Why does Apple not tell people the problems they are working on. I am patient, but it seems strange that a CEO needs to respond.. Everyone know its a problem so Apple should be upfront and tell us.. I would trust a company a lot more if I could easier find a problem list with some acknowledgement that they are looking into it.. of course other companies would attack them on those points.. but no one likes a bully.. it just seems strange that we have to keep asking Mr Jobs to answer questions.. to me it says a lot about the culture.. and it makes me wonder what happens after Mr Jobs and how much should I invest in Apple.. which is a shame cos I have being using Apple since the IIe and Mac 128k

I've always wonderd the same thing.

Open up a public bug-tracking thing or so. Read only if you want. But let people know what the status is. I'm used to this in the software field, and it works like a charm.

For example: if something doesn't work in firefox, I check out bugzilla. If it's there, I vote for my problem. And it gets fixed. This way you know what people think is important. And you get the blabla out of every newspaper story if the numbers don't count :).

I can't even fathom why Apple would have even released this version to the public. It has made countless of my friends iPhones practically unusable, and it has done the same thing to my iPod Touch 32G.

I hope that Apple brings a fix for the Touch as well.

It would be nice, but I can't see Apple ever going for it. They enjoy their control and ability to spin too much (example being them deleting posts on their own forum about defects they've not owned up to).

I don't know if this only has something to do with just iOS or not, I do experence the same issues with my 3.1.2 iPhone 3G.

I'm about ready to toss my iphone 3G out the window. I was all set to buy the iphone 4, but I'd prefer to wait until they resolve whatever antenna/reception issues there are-- so in the meantime I'm stuck with a snail of a 3G, and every day I'm tempted to switch to an Android phone or even a blackberry torch.

Any reason to expected a hardware-updated iphone 4 soon????

Haha

That video was hilarious. I'm satisfied with my 3GS, it works perfectly. I'm skipping the iPhone 4 it's like vista and 3GS is windows 7 basically all I can give for my analogy.
That video cracked me up though hah.:D:p

it's sort of humorous. If Apple would have not allowed the iOS4 software to come out on the iPhone 3G there would have been a ton of complainers. Since they have released iOS4 for the iPhone 3G there has been a ton of complainers.

I am not saying that my old 3G didn't run slow, because it did. I think Apple should have left the 3G owners out in the cold for the software upgrade so they didn't have to put up with all this complaining... or wait... hmmmm

Easy Fix Available

Instead of whining and posting to threads such as this one use your time to do a little research.

The fix is easy - reset your iPhone 3G to 'New Phone.' Admittedly it is a protracted process - not the steps just the time it takes to effect the reset. So do this with the iPhone connected to your computer and do it overnight.

Once the reset is complete you will have to go into the Settings control panels and reset all of the application defaults but that is a small price to pay. Something to do while you are waiting for the upgrade. :D

Some have tried downgrading their iPhone 3G to iOS 3 and seen better results. CNET's Brian Tong made a video showing how to do this:

http://news.cnet.com/8301-31021_3-20014285-260.html?tag=topTechContentWrap;editorPicks

Question: does doing this void the iPhone warranty?

You can always downgrade a 3G from 4.0.X to 3.1.3, you just need to have something to kick it out of recovery such as recboot once the downgrade is completed. You will always need this tool anytime a restore is done after this unless it is back to the firmware it was at previously such as 4.0.1.

I was thinking the same thing. But I guess "terse" has a more negative connotation than "concise" or "succinct". But to say that it was "far from terse" is definitely wrong. :)

I think the first person was thinking of "curt" (or perhaps "brusque"). A "curt" reply would indicate both shortness and a sharpness, gruffness, and element of rebuke. Jobs wasn't any of those things.

Terse really shouldn't be taken negatively (although it could be depending on context); the New Oxford American English Dictionary (which comes with all Macs!) defines it as "sparing in the use of words; abrupt" but has this to say as well

"Terse can also mean clipped or abrupt :) a terse command), but it usually connotes something that is both concise and polished :) a terse style of writing that was much admired)."

Quite a few people have tried that - myself included - and stated that it doesn't work for everyone in this thread - maybe you should do your own research, eh?

The iPhone 3G was sold up until about two months ago. So if someone bought a 3G this year (I didn't, but I do have a 3G) then how can you expect them to upgrade already? Even if you bought a 3G a year ago, it's definitely not acceptable to try and force an upgrade to a 4, so stop being douchebags just because you have Iphone 4s.

This may help some

Hi all,

Before I got my iPhone 4 yesterday I used my iPhone 3G and indeed it was terribly slow.
A friend of mine pointed me to the memstatus app and it kinda worked.
After turning the iPhone off and cleaning the memmory with the app a few times it showed great improvements.
Meaning my general settings only took 3 seconds to show instead of the 11 seconds it took before...

Interesting... once I turned spotlight indexing off my 3G has been working well. Occasionally its slows down for a moment, But I noticed it was dependant on what I was running prior. The 3G is just showing its memory limitation (it should have always had more memory)

People could, will (and do) sue Apple for the slightest perceived wrong or injustice. Apple isn't going to aid those in the discovery process, no matter how much protection is afforded by the EULAs.

Mozilla isn't as likely to get sued for distributing free software, though any suit that would come about could be far more damaging to them.

Open access to Bugzilla is nice, but it's probably a good thing that the public at large isn't aware of it, judging by the level of discourse exemplified in most discussion forums.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPod; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_0_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8A400 Safari/6531.22.7)

Apple is always focus on new product. As time goes by they quickly gives old one up without hesitation. That's why I don't like Apple. Circling of product is too fast.
