Apple Fanboy since 1984 ~

In my view, the 3G performance kill, was the last straw in the ‘Bay of Pigs’ disaster of the iPhone-4 implementation. I'm holding off to consider the Nokia N8 before upgrading.

BTW: The good folks at 'Lifehacker' resurrected my dead iPhone 3G.

I have problems with my 3G iPhone too. It's slow and the battery status doesn't update appropriately when using my iPad wall mount charger.

"...I'm not prepared to use a method that is not supported by Apple..."

LMAO!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

Honestly, some people are so out of their head... :D

Anway... GL to all with software update... :)

I think it would have been a better move to say outright that iOS4 wouldnt be available for the 3G phones at the same time as the others, as long as it came eventually. I would have rather waited and had it work than turn my phone in to a complete POS by 'upgrading.' Unfortunately Apple doesn't go about things that way. Downgrading wasnt too big of a deal anyway.

I got quite annoyed at this, untill the iPhone 4 came out. Then I didn't care, because it didn't affect me :D

My god I'm a bastard.

I've not upgraded yet because of all the reports, and I doubt I will unless 4.1 gets absolutely sterling reviews on the 3G

remain skeptical, all I really want is the folders.

+1 ... I havent upgraded to iPhone 4 (still on 3Gs) ...btw Folders is cool but it gets old and the excitement goes back to "meh"

just restore as new, problem solved

when i bought my wife an iPhone 4 to replace her 3G we gave the old one to our son to be used as an iPod. restored as new and jailbroke it for the themes. it was a bit slow and some of the kid's apps didn't work so i restored it as new again with 4.0.2 and it works fine now. about as laggy as when it had 3.1.3.

This. Until something drastically improves iOS4 on a 3G, I'm staying at 3.1.3. I'm not into buying phones every year and the iPhone 4 doesn't have anything compelling for me to upgrade.

I have two 3G, one of them I bought the other was "inherited" as it was going to be binned from the sheer frustration of the way it works under IOS4 spell.

I downgraded the inherited one and compared the performance of both phones.
The one still running IOS4 takes double the time to process simple tasks like sending a message, making a phone call, looking up contacts, opening/closing apps, waking the phone from sleep, clicking the Home button etc, the only exception being safari, for some reason it works better under IOS4.

Its terribly frustrating, lets hope SJ is shouting at someone to get this sorted out!

Terse? Didn't sound overly terse to me. Straight and to the point perhaps, but far from terse.

It is however too bad that Apple didn't take enough time "field testing" the iPhone 3 units running IOS4. Surely they knew people would take the plunge and update their previous gen phones.

But that is what terse means:

neatly or effectively concise

with Synonyms
1. succinct, compact, neat, concentrated. 1, 2. See concise.

RESTORE as NEW does not work, done that and compared it to the performance under 3.1.

Poor kid!

Spent the past month+ since the iOS4 upgrade comparing Droid features to determine impact of leaving Apple. Also been contemplating my own fix for this bug: bouncing my 3G off of the pavement.

Apple not only f'd up on this, they failed us again by taking their time to get a fix out.

I guess we are supposed to be all excited that 4.1 will address these issues. Count me out.

Is this a sign of another Apple-in-Decline phase as we weathered in the 90's? Hoping it was a one-time thing....

Thanks MacRumors for keeping track of this.

4.1b3 does significantly improve performance on the 3G, at least for me. It is still slow, but it is a big improvement over 4.0x.

you think steve jobs ever tried jailbreaking his phone just to see what it's all about? :D

btw do you know many Apple Store Employees have their phones jailbroken?

Yes forgot to thank Macrumors for keeping this alive.

Good on you

The fact that they obviously didn't do enough field testing on older phones is very scary and concerning!
I don't have a 3G but I'll tell ya, I will not ever again upgrade immediately after a new update comes out until I get reports that all is well.
This is just not Apple anymore.:(
I know several people who are in pain because their beloved iPhone sucks with iOS 4.

This is a non-issue. Just buy an iphone 4. Not a big deal.

PS will 4.1 fix the proximity sensor issue? This is bigger than the antenna, in my opinion.

I voted positive, but they shouldn't fix these issues, to force people to upgrade. Enough with obsolete hardware.

Jk.

"I've waited patiently through 4.0.1 and 4.0.2, looking for a fix that will make my phone work again. I've read the forums that advise me to jailbreak my phone or use some other method so I can downgrade back to a version of iPhone 3, however I'm not prepared to use a method that is not supported by Apple."

The method supported by Apple is to purchase a new iPhone and throw the old one away...

Is he now so up his own backside, that he thinks we give a **** if it's sent from his iPhone or his arse?
