Gruber is wrong. The iSlate will have a camera! And it will be useful for a lot more than video conferencing.

Millions of users streaming video chat over 3g?

I doubt that carriers can handle that on top of the problems they have already, anyway. Insight on video chat with laptops with 3g, anyone?

This device is probably not going to be a replacement for All Things Mac.

I don't know about anyone else, but I not only want a camera on my tablet, but it better be at least 5 MP. ;) haha

+1 Emphatically!

That is predictable. Need to save something for revision b.

Unfortunately you may be right! :( But even worse is, the iPhone won't get an iSight with iChat until after the iSlate does most definitely! So might be a ways out still till LTE or something. :(

Being able to use iChat or Skype would've been a huge plus to me.

Not to say they'll never add a camera to this...

I am almost certainly going to wait for a revision done to this. Usually with new product like this, you're better off waiting for an update to it anyways.

What about the ultra thin easy-bake oven option? Has that been dropped too? I was really looking forward to fresh baked cookies while having my video conference....:D

well, i would want video skype at least via wifi. i think it's too much for 3g. but for wifi i definately would want it. the possibility to use it on a trip as skype device in my hotel is a major reason to have a tablet.

may have just lost interest in this one. video chat/video conferencing seems like it would fit in perfectly with such a device. bitch's be crazy if they leave this out.

I won't buy if it doesn't have a camera!!!*

* Actually, I won't buy anyway, heh, heh

A camera for shooting photos or videos makes little sense. It would be so much worse than a dedicated device I don't see the point. It makes sense in a phone mainly because of the advantage that you always have it with you. This won't typically apply to a tablet.

A forward-facing video camera for chat/conferencing makes a lot more sense.

why are people so adamant about there being a camera?

are you going to take a photo or shoot video with a 10" device?

I would; absolutely. If there is email on the slate than it would be nice to be able to attach photos taken right then and there. I can imagine using my tablet, seeing something cool somewhere and just clicking on the camera icon to capture the moment immediately, rather than putting the tablet down, digging out my iPhone, unlocking it and opening the camera app. It would be convenient. Also, what about Augmented Reality Apps, which it has been speculated the slate could do better than an iPhone. Not to mention other camera-using apps.

So at this point everything about the tablet has a conflicting rumor.

One rumor would tell you it only makes cookies. Another says brownies only.

A camera won't be the only thing the tablet will be missing...Sounds like they're not even going to put in a full version of OS X in it.

Since there's going to be so much WAITING involved for wanted features anyway, might as well wait for a mid range headless tower.

is it really an ideal situation to have a videoconference where you have to hold the device in front of you?

Um there is camera on the MacBook that many people use, and I could guess there would be sometime of stand. Only makes sense.

...
The much-followed Gruber has several times in the past offered accurate information on forthcoming Apple products, most recently correctly revealing Apple's October product unveilings (with the exception of his "wildcard" multi-touch trackpad gadget claim) the evening before their release.

Getting it right the night before is totally different than weeks or even days before -- by that time the info has been widely disseminated within Apple.

lol :) I have always thought the same thing about most post made here at MR :) I find this site very amusing when I’m having a bad day.

A camera doesn't really make sense for a 10" tablet.

For videoconferencing, you would have to prop up the device and any sort of touchscreen interaction would probably look a bit creepy to the person on the other side. On a MacBook, you have a stable platform and you can adjust the camera via the screen hinge; typing on the notebook's keyboard isn't really an issue.

For taking photos (or video) with a tablet, you would be hand holding a fairly large device which would exacerbate camera shake.

It will support video conferencing

They'll use iPhones / iPod Touches with cameras to integrate with the iSlate and implement video conferencing and all sorts of other applications. That way people will have to buy both products.

Yeah, these tablet threads are the worst.

Some of these "features" are insanely esoteric or simply not useful to Joe Consumer.

Hilarious! :p
