The only thing that shocks me, is that people are still surprised that large for-profit multinational corporations only act in the best interests of their shareholders (i.e. cash is king, maximize profits at all costs). Its literally the corporation's only reason to exist. Its literally the only job of Tim Cook to serve the shareholders.

Of course Apple's "activism" is performative and not grounded in reality (just like 99% individuals who fancy themselves activists online to be honest). Its a form of advertising. Don't take it too seriously.

No big deal
Some things are better not spoken

At the end of the day, I doubt they can stop him from creating his own podcast or sharing his views on some of these issues elsewhere?

All of these streaming networks have certain parameters of what they find "acceptable" and lines they draw in the sand about what people can say or do on any programming they carry.

It's always interesting to know when one of them blocks somebody from speaking out about a subject.... but seems like it's something Apple (or any other broadcaster/video streamer) has the right to do. They're paying people like Stewart to produce the content they want to air; not free reign to say and do anything he likes on their show.

This is an over simplification. But, deep in Apple's DNA resides the opinion... the core belief, that people are stupid. And they need to go out of their way to route around stupidity.
But that belief is rooted in reality. Tim made Apple devices worse and still sold a heck lot more than Steve ever could.

Are they really so wrong?

I mean, not saying they *literally* think everyone is low IQ and dumb... But their entire business model makes the assumption that not only are there a significant number of people on the planet who you'd describe as "below average intelligence", but there are plenty of "high intelligence" people who still focus on a pretty narrow scope of interests. If "technology" isn't really part of that focus, they still benefit from "dumbing down" complex products so they take less effort to use or learn.

Is it probably why? Apple seems pretty uninterested in making decisions based on viewership. They’ve dragged along many shows that appear to have no audience whatsoever.
Many?
1) How do you know what their audience was?
2) How many shows can you name. I'm not talking about show you are not personally interested in, shows that were actually dragged along without any audience whatsoever.

He disparaged Apple who was paying him so why would any company engage him knowing he has no qualms about turning on the them. He dropped a grenade on Apple without an ounce of context. We have no idea how the deal ended. He would like a real dirt bag if Apple were to say he was paid for the season even though it was not completed or they opted out of an option year for that season, or if they had a clause that paid him an amount even if the season was not picked up or cancelled midway.

the culture and ethos that apple often wants to portray (and I do believe many in their leadership are very left-leaning) is one of progressivism.

yet, they are a gigantic company that does not want to be regulated and is still very very beholden to china. they also need to placate shareholders...so all these conflicting values made it super hard to have someone incendiary like JS on the platform. I personally love JS...but I understand why the show got cancelled, rightly or wrongly.

Let's not sugar coat reality... full support of human rights, justice and decency is bad for any large, multi-national company... and most people will not sacrifice profits or shareholder value for the human rights or justice of others (at least until the counter-weight of the consumer pushes the other end of the scale further down).

That narrative was destroyed by the first episode of See, starring Jason Samoa. Very violent and featured a scene depicting cunnilingus performed on the villainess. But I can see that no large company wants to get into politics openly. Look what happened to Bud Light. That’s why we have the Daily Show and HBO’s Bill Maher.
It's Jason Momoa, "Samoas" are a Girl Scout Cookie.

it wasn't funny. that was the cardinal sin.
Agreed. And I’m a huge Stewart fan from his old stuff but man was this Apple TV show cringey. He would say something completely unfunny and then giggle awkwardly while the audience reacts a bit and then you’re just like “dude..get to the point. It wasnt even funny. Just keep going”

happened every episode and it actually soured me on him. Loved his takedowns when he would interview politicians though

Such a cowerdly move by Apple.
if most everyone stopped watching and were bored with the show, it makes sense to cancel it. It doesnt have to be “some corporate agenda”. People tuned in for the first episode but after that almost nobody kept watching

if apple put effort into putting a show out, it underperforms. Should they keep it on?

I'm sure it's more than one single reason as to why it was cancelled

Not sure why we are arguing about "which exact reasons specifically"

Who cares?

Indeed, Disney tried to bury the release of Scorsese's Kundun with a Christmas release in a handful of theaters, and China still made Disney's CEO kiss their a** in person before even entertaining doing business with them again. Apple knows what could result from Stewart focusing an episode on some of their practices.

The amount of propaganda pushed down out throats is crazy.

Information is concentrated and if you get exposure/views, likely you will accept money to push propaganda.

You should not believe your lying eyes and ears.

Apple should have never gotten involved in TV show and movie production, there were and are plenty of video streaming apps without Apple. Apple could have put the same money, focus and attention into AAA gaming for Mac and living room—the biggest gaping hole in Apple's ecosystems.

Sure glad you’re not running the place.

Apple has become more obnoxious than Microsoft ever was.
I'd say Go Woke Go Broke but this appears to be more of Tim Cook bowing down to Xi.
Pretty disgusting
Considering Apple has the biggest market in China and China is the biggest market in the world, it has nothing to do to Xi (not sure where you get that bs from) and more about sales.

Apple also bows to the EU, and you know... anywhere where there are laws. Except the US, because Apple completely dominates the US.

Hating the anti-Chinese views on some of these posters. They are a market, pure and simple.

We all know Apple plays it safe with their content, and doesn’t want to risk offending anyone or tarnishing their clean wholesome vibe.

But that does tend to mean Apple TV+ can be quite bland and boring. A lot of the best content over at Netflix, for example, would never have been greenlit at Apple because they’d see it as too controversial or provocative.

Even something like Severance must have made a few execs squirm a bit by touching on some creepy and awkward themes.
