Jobs also choose John Sculley. Was he right?

I can't say they are happier because of one magazine picture. I think this is an unwise extrapolation.

Anyway, Jobs would not care about their happiness either. Jobs only cared about making outstanding products and customers happy.

Choosing Cook as his heir was Jobs biggest mistake. I think Steve thought Forstall is not mature enough to be CEO, but as we see now he should definitely did pick Forstall instead of Cook.

The heir-apparent to Steve is Jony Ive. He's the man everyone should be looking at to truly shoulder the ingenuity of the post-Steve Apple. Too many put all of the apples in the Tim Cook basket (and some for good reason). I for one, don't.

Designwise, sure. Running the whole company, probably not.

Folks forget the Jobs, was, well, Jobs. He grew up with Apple and learned a lot along the way. To expect someone to walk in and take over all the Steve did is unrealistic, IMO.

There are lots of examples in the day to day business world. Small company starts up. Everyone pitches in to do whatever it takes to move the company forward. Nest thing you know, company is successful and the originators want to move on. They start looking for a replacement and quickly find that no one person can fill their shoes. Why, they grew up learning/doing the many jobs they now have. They didn't learn it overnight.

Same thing with Apple.

COME ON Apple, I thought it's about adding functionality NOT taking it away. I'm a 15+ year user of Apple products and to tell the truth I'm VERY disappointed that I can't respond to a incoming call while on the phone with someone via a text. USED to do that in past IOS.. The new phone book has a bug when adding a custom label to a name it now DOESN'T recognize it being a cell number to text it. Who are the MORONS field testing the new IOS ?? I was hoping not to need to jailbreak my phone, needless to say it looks like I will need to.. COME ON Apple, STOP TAKING FUNCTION AWAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

I said it before, and I'll say it again, this is EXACTLY why Jobs ensured Ives hardware team had nothing to do with the iOS team. And it is proven by the fact iOS7 is a bit of a disaster of form over function.

I think you spelled "hair" wrong, so of course the natural choice should've been Federighi :D

I don't understand. They basically stole everything from jailbreak tweaks. Where's the innovation?

When Steve talked about iOS, he said it is the soul of iphone, ipad, iPod touch. That's why Scott was important. Steve saw a part of him in scott...

Hope the current collaborative team does not mess with the software too much.

As for iphone 5s design The chamfered edges wear out easily. Johny should worry about that. Everyone hates a nick on the front of the phone.

Jony and Craig must have collaborated for hours playing with a Samsung S4 in order to 'invent' all the features of IOS7.....:D

Well its Android, not so much Samsung. But while we're on the topic, who is copying who exactly? http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/samsung-apples-gold-galaxy-s4-pictures/story?id=20368430

Forstall?! He was a polarizing figure, didn't play well with others. A CEO has to be able to manage a wide variety of people/personalities. You don't want Forstall in that position.

You can. It is right in the interface. Sorry to hear you cannot see how to do it.

Sure but its all built off of OS X. Forstall was innovative with iOS originally but then he stopped. He added a few features here and there but nothing truly gamechanging. That's why everyone viewed iOS 6 as stale.

iOS7 was a significant upgrade and breathed new life into the iOS brand. With true multitasking, notifications, better app organization, etc etc it will be a great basis for the next 5 years or so.

What would you like? Usually people say "I want this feature" when they make a complaint...

Every time I'm seeing this picture, I feel like they're laughing at me trying desperately to find an iPhone 5S !!!

haha, I learnt my lesson on that one when I got my iPhone 4 it took me weeks to get one, I was just about ready to quit the idea. So last year I was bang on that pre-order button for the iPhone 5. Good luck though mate, keep trying and ringing around and you'll get one.

It's unfortunate that Cook opted to fire Forstall rather than run the middle as Steve did. Talented people will have differences. I think Steve referred to them as "wonderful arguments"

This means one and only one thing for Apple: fear

They have fear of iOS7, that or they're just bunch happy idi*ts running a company build by the predecessors. And I don't think they are idi*ts.

And somehow, with all these integrated teams, no one thought that iOS 7's minimalist design, low contrast, and super brightness was going to be a bad idea?

Exactly. They claim they wanted an interface that "just gets out of the way". Unfortunately, I need to actually USE my interface, and "out of the way" is NOT where I want it.

Let's see...I want to delete a single text from a thread....how to do it....hmmm. No more "edit" button. Swipe up? no. Down? no. Left? Right? no. no. tap the message? no. Double tap the message? Hey there's a "More" button, lets go there. Whew - finally found it!

What a colossal step backwards. Remember the days when people touted the fact that their grandmother could pick up an iPhone and intuitively know how to use it? Those days are gone.

I did a workshop on iOS7 at Apple yesterday. Needed more info before updating. The presentation was good. Presenter offered workarounds to several bothersome aspects.

Maybe there will be an update soon. I am staying with iOS6. The presenter used my iOS 6 device to demo a few things.

These interviews are always lame. Of course they are not going to reveal any new products or ideas. It's always about synergy and focus and blah blah blah canned response.

The whole point of this interview?

"we make stuff together"

Duh.

I'm not making this observation based on one magazine cover. If Forstall was that brilliant and had all these amazing ideas and got along with everyone he'd still be there. And if Federighi or Ive were a problem they would have been fired.

You say Jobs only cared about making outstanding products...are you suggesting Cook and Co. don't? Was every product that Jobs released outstanding? Were MobileMe and Ping outstainding? Is iCloud outstanding? Or Siri? How about maps? Surely a lot of that work was going on while Jobs was still around. Or how about the fact that Apple is still playing catch-up in terms of features compared to other mobile OS's? Why didn't we get control center or better multi-tasking in iOS6? The reason iOS is playing catch-up to Android is mostly because of Jobs and Forstall.

Forstall was the right man, but, if he was but in charge, Ive would be out the door instantly. The balance between Forstall and Ive is what made it great.
