er Apple designer Sir Jony Ive has created a new-look red nose to celebrate Red Nose Day, the annual Comic Relief charity telethon broadcast on British television that aims to raise money for poor and disadvantaged people.

The nose is made from 95% plant-based materials and has a folding paper design that starts out as a small, flat crescent that springs into a honeycomb paper sphere when opened, ready to sit on one's nose. It even comes with a little carry case.

The BBC's Newsround described Ive's design as "the most dramatic makeover since the red nose made its debut in 1988."

To launch the nose, Comic Relief co-founders Richard Curtis and Sir Lenny Henry enlisted actress and comedian Diane Morgan to narrate a tongue-in-cheek short film.

In the short, Morgan compares the design to planet Earth, then hails the importance of "the perfect circle" before describing how the new model is "the most perfect nose in history."

When Ive left Apple in 2019, the British designer recruited at least four of his former Apple colleagues to join him at his LoveFrom design firm, which is responsible for the nose.

Money raised from the BBC appeal will support people struggling with the cost-of-living crisis and tackle issues such as homelessness, mental health problems, and food poverty. Last year's Comic Relief raised £42,790,147 ($52,735,219).

The new nose is being sold for £2.50 (about $3) on Amazon and the Comic Relief website, where orders are limited to eight per person ahead of this year's Red Nose Day on Friday, March 17. Donations can be made via Amazon Pay, with 100% of proceeds going to Comic Relief.

Typical Ive, plagiarising the design of old fashioned paper Christmas decorations and overengineering the fastening. When will people wake up to his mediocrity?

Not unlikely at all. The CEO, just imaging that, a Charity CEO making £160K
I’m not sure that this attempt at proof for your statement really holds out 😂
The accent...so grating on the ears.😣
Listening to many of the accents in American English, on the other hand is like listening to angels singing. Probably better not to have commented at all if the intent was just to insult a person because of their accent.

Unabashedly sill-y-cone(1.) free.

1. pronounced by Ive like Al-u-minium.
That’s how all British people speaking English pronounce aluminium- and that’s because it’s also spelt that way.

I got my 3 noses today. I am not that impressed to be honest. The first one I opened had the lattice crushed so not such a fantastic design and they are not that comfortable to wear. I don't mind as they are for Charity, however not one of Jonny's best designs...

Oh and when you try to close it, it snaps shut and flys out your hand.

In the clown world we live in these days - nothing more fitting than a revolutionary clown nose!

Tongue in cheek aside - glad to see it’s selling out (good for the charity).

More trash to the world. Great.
Of all the needless rubbish in the world, all the pointless packaging like an individual whole grapefruit wrapped in cellophane, or Amazon delivering a single sd card in something 4 times the size of a shoe box, it’s this, a small fun purchase for a traditional British charity that rubs you up the wrong way enough to comment. Do you say the same thing for Poppy Day?

For all the environmental problems in the world, this one is pretty inoffensive.

If you read the article rather than jumping to conclusions you’d see that they are made from recycled plant based materials and the money from buying them is for charity. How can that be described as ‘trash’???
who cares what they are made out of, its a junk product. besides, instead of making junk for charity why not just donate the money directly instead?

They sell millions of these and they raise around 20 times more for charity than they cost to make. It’s not a difficult concept to understand and having Red Nose Day without a red nose would be rather weird wouldn’t it? Do they have fun in other countries or what? So many cynical comments on here for something that is so normal.

To be honest I would. It wouldn’t have passed Jobs standards either. It look’s dated and tired but it’s functional and designed by committee. Now Apple’s strengths are in its internal processors rather than it’s external design although all of the good stuff is still based on Jony’s Unibody industrial design.

Apple now are more like the mid 90’s Apple with too many SKUs only this time they have plenty of cash.
My current MBP 16" looks more like a tool than the previous generation and I like that. To me the previous generation looks a bit dated, especially the sharp edges which have a 80s jewelry vibe (e.g. Ebel watch wave wristband, not the two-tone) or 2000s interior design vibe to me.
Also the sharper edges of the previous generation looked bad when scratched, especially on the spacegray version.
