It's only "mature" to the point of current tech limitations. I think it's a safe bet Jony Ive is gonna reduce the tickness in the 2nd generation.

According to 9to5Mac this is in the article.

"He runs through the three ranges of Apple Watch with their different materials – the stainless-steel Apple Watch, the anodised-aluminium Apple Watch Sport (both from $349) and the Apple Watch Edition in 18ct yellow or rose gold (with an as yet unconfirmed price of around $4,500)."

Interesting.

The way it's worded, it would seem the SS and Aluminum versions start at the same price.

They very well could, with bands sold separately of course.

Or it could be a typo.

I'm leaning towards typo as the Apple Watch SS has sapphire does it not?

Apple design has taken a hit with Jony Ive, whom i think has been in charge of designs for a little before Jobs passing.

Its been beaten in the head before before my Iphone 6s' camera protruding is horrible. Amazing phone, horrible horrible implementation.

I will of course be waiting on the :apple:watch to see how successful it is. IMO i feel it will be more of a Apple TV. To which i don't have and have 3 devices that implement its concepts much better.

I just don't see the watch taking off. Then again, i did not think the ipad would be successful. And i still dont like the ipad.

I think it would be a typo, although they are always saying them in order if Apple a Watch, Apple Watch Sport, Apple Watch Edition if that says anything?

Also 9to5Mac says its strange it wouldn't have been proofread by Apple.

Certainly very interesting though. Maybe it'll be a shock on Monday! I hope.

Ive gasps been in charge of design since the 90's. I don't think Jobs had an awful lot to do with the designs.

As he said, the camera lense was a pragmatic decision, without doing it the whole phone would be thicker,

My hope is that the stainless steel ones are "from" $349 depending on band and maybe... just maybe... the Sport is slightly cheaper. I don't really care what the price is of the Edition, I'm not a fan of yellow or rose gold.

The guy is promoting an open letter to Apple expressing disappointment with the new UI. I tell ya what man, the guy has passion. I don't think we'd get Microsoft users crapping their pants if the windows trash icon ever changed.

I wish they'd asked him about his thoughts on the current crop of smart watches and what makes Apple's different (besides the logo).

I gotta say, the round edges definitely help the design a lot. The other smarties with a rectangle face are too angular.

Found it interesting the the article says that the Sport and SS models will both be starting at $349. I wonder if this is a mistake, is there really a chance of them both being the same? Seems a little strange.

The MR article thinks it could be an error.

In what could be amounted to a mistake, the profile claims that both the anodized aluminum Apple Watch Sport and stainless steel Apple Watch will start at $349.

I still can't quite imagine wanting one - I had been thinking about getting a Fitbit Charge HR recently, and then saw the Mondaine (slightly) smart watch (in that it has an analogue dial to record your steps / distance progress), and ended up realising that if I'm going to start wearing something on my wrist again then I'd actually probably just want to get a really nice analogue watch.

Having said that, it will be interesting to see the Apple Watch for real. I've always thought the main issue is having a screen big enough to be useful, but not so big it looks too big on your wrist. That and the elephant in the room - analogue watches perhaps always will just make nicer watches.

But recently I've been wondering what will actually be the watch's USP, the niche thing it is better at than a phone (because text notifications etc don't really interest me too much), in the way that the iPad turned out to be so much better for surfing, and consuming entertainment on the sofa or in bed than a laptop. And I think if it's anything, its going to be the ability to do things like open doors and pay for things very conveniently compared to getting keys or wallets out of pockets. Sure, its niche, and a first world problem. But for me those sorts of things are the where a wrist worn device will genuinely be better at a specific task than existing alternatives.

Absolute drivel. Steve Jobs was not a product designer, although very design literate. Ive designed the original iMac and everything since (with the help of his team).

If you didn't get the iPad and don't get the Watch I think you don't get Apple.

"Even now, when the design of the Apple Watch is incredibly mature and has gone through thousands and thousands of hours of evaluation and testing, we're still working and improving.

Apple Watch 2 confirmed for January 2016.

If I remember correctly, last year he explicitly mentioned that the Apple team has literally spent "Millions and Millions of Hours" working on the Apple Watch..
The interviewer himself was pretty stunned upon hearing Ive's absurd statement..

Now, clearly he has toned it down to a mere "Thousands and thousands of hours"... :D

Pretty inconsistent for someone in his position..
