Having to? This is by choice, no?

It is. I'm a glutton for punishment sometimes. As I said, looking forward to the announcement, just hate the grueling time eating puffery attached with it. It's not unlike adoring your significant other but also hating a certain trait they have. Hey no one and nothing under the sun is prefect, right?

The Cows

I hope that the cows and/or other animals that were slaughtered for those high-end cases had a very good life and were treated with respect when led to their death.

I like Jony, but I realized while reading that I was scanning and skipping.

Guess I'm tired of the interviews and ready for the watch!

Because the leather used isn't a by-product of the cows that 'we' eat anyways?

Or does Apple have a magical farm where they raise cows with premium hides that are exclusively used in the Apple watch cases, which they then just discard the meat leftover?

I do agree though that the cows need to be treated better during their short lives.

Nice article. Love to read about how much attention they put into the watch. Although the battery comment he made was well..controversial :roll eyes:

Also interesting how the article says 2 times that the Sport and regular watch start at the same price...if it's not a typo, who would buy the sport?

Lighter, different feel on skin. Prefer the colours etc...

9to5mac Update: Apple PR has now confirmed to us that the price reference was “a misinterpretation.”

Bummer. Still hoping it isn't priced outlandishly more than the Sport. Though I am leaning more towards the Space Grey Sport. I just wish it had sapphire. ION is ok, but I already have small hairline scratches on my iPhone 6+, and I don't abuse it.

This guy is so full of ****. I swear all Apply employees take training lessons how how to talk for hours without actually saying anything.

Yeah, they most probably do. Their interviews count toward marketing and company perception, so they won't go unfiltered or unchecked.

Really hope that isn't a typo, as I much prefer the design of the Watch over the Sport.

Although the prices have already been discounted, Maybe the Sport will be more water resistant than the SS....

I think the point is it's not the captain that wins the game, he/she is only as good as the team around them. Clearly there are some extremely intelligent people at Apple working on the watch.

If you took the time to actually read the words he uses you'd notice that he rarely, if never, says "I" when talking about the design process - it's always "we". He is one of the most self-deprecating people out there.

I don't think we'd get Microsoft users crapping their pants if the windows trash icon ever changed.

Yeah, because there's a whole lot more wrong with Windows than just the trash can icon.

When everything is darned near perfect, trivialities become hugely irritating. That's a good sign.

And note in that New Yorker interview there were at least 6 members of his team quoted and mentioned by name.

So by putting leather in the packaging does this disqualify vegans (the devout ones who actually care about everything they interact with) from buying these watches? Watch bands, sure they have a choice but the packaging? Let's hope any leather in the packaging is synthetic.

Or at the very least only have this special packaging on the Edition models and even then have some percentage of them without the leather.

It's only "mature" to the point of current tech limitations. I think it's a safe bet Jony Ive is gonna reduce the tickness in the 2nd generation.

Wait, is the first Apple Watch mechanical? It TICKS? I thought it was all electronic. How can they reduce the tickness if it doesn't tick?

;)

My hope is that the stainless steel ones are "from" $349 depending on band and maybe... just maybe... the Sport is slightly cheaper. I don't really care what the price is of the Edition, I'm not a fan of yellow or rose gold.

Apple has already said officially that the Sport will start at $349. The stainless version will clearly be substantially more. In 3 days we will know how much more.

This is the quote I thought was most interesting:

“It was different with the phone – all of us working on the first iPhone were driven by an absolute disdain for the cellphones we were using at the time. That’s not the case here. We’re a group of people who love our watches. So we’re working on something, yet have a high regard for what currently exists.”

The creation of the iPhone was to solve a problem: most cell phones sucked up to that point. The same with the iPod and iPad: Apple was unsatisfied with the devices that were already on the market.

With the Apple Watch (if Ive is to be believed), this could be the first instance of Apple reshaping a device category because they love it.

alright, so this coupled with an excerpt from another article stating that Apple just wants developers to reign the functionality of their watch apps so that people don't spend more than several seconds using it makes me completely not excited about next week's announcement. Or rather, makes me more excited to see what's in store for the Macbook lineup than the watch

Apple shoes will be their next entry in the fashion field.

You joke... or maybe not, but Under Armour is already working on "smart clothes" with sensors embedded in them and to be compatible with Under Armour's smartphone apps and web portals.

Not interested

I'd much rather wear a vintage Rolex , Omega , Seiko .
Hate to say it but Apples new watch seems much more gimmick then any product Apple has released so far , IMOA !!!

Wouldn't it be uncomfortable to be spending a lot of time fiddling with/looking at your wrist? To me long interactions with the watch would be a big FAIL.

I have half a dozen "nice" Swiss watches, but I'm sufficiently drawn by the published images to be still interested in seeing the Apple Watch in real life. Functionality may be useful, but it'll be the look and heft that sells it to me to add to my mini-collection, or not.

But the part about the iPhone is really revisionist history.

People LOVED their Blackberries so much in 2007 that they were referred to as "Crackberries." Palmphone users were crazy about their devices too to the point there were many Palm forums to talk about upcoming models and hacks to current ones. Jobs recognized there was a better way though. It was only after the iPhone (and App Store) were with us that we realized how terrible the Blackberry and Palm phones were.
