I'm glad to hear that some icons might change. Some are fantastic (and most of the UI as a whole is gorgeous) but there are still some stinkers. The new UI just feels rough right now, but very promising. And for a company known for polish, I hope iOS 7 is released totally polished up.

Yep.

I've a feeling that the key engineers have all been focused on the major functional and core infrastructure/OS enhancements, and an unpolished UI/UX was put together to make it in time for WWDC. I'd rather have my team work on the engine and features than pretty icons, which can be done later.

I just hope they use a thicker, richer font than this ultra-thin Helvetica. Come on, more pixels don't cost any more money ;)

That might be true, but I think the font is here to stay. But unlike Apple of the past, there are a few options (gasp!) to make it thicker.

Also noticing some weird UI quirks with Mavericks. The new Notes looks "ugly as sin" as another member put it, GameCenter was left just as ugly, the "AM/PM" in the menu bar is now "am/pm", ... Just a bunch of very strange UI choices.

I realize I'm in the minority, but I find most of the icons to be an improvement... except Safari and Photos. Just WTF.

I'm fine with those. I would like Safari better if they had kept the blue background but whatever.

It's Game Center and Settings that I found terrible. to the point that I consider them 'broken'.

Wrong. Ugly is ugly.

wrong yourself. Ugly is opinion not fact.

I'm not sure I understand all the vitriol aimed at the look of iOS7.

I think its brilliant - looks great and a lot of the beta folks I know who have it agree.

Good work Apple and Jony and whoever helped out - I dig it!

I think iOS 7 looks good too, but it needs more than a face lift to remain competitive... iOS needs new features like a better keyboard, haptic feedback, NFC, easier data sharing, etc.

So Ives is throwing another team under the bus because he has no taste for software and could not tell how bad this looks.

Frankly the whole flat thing is ugly but worse than that - it is worse user interface. My non power using friends who have never heard of macrumors are going to see an update - download and install it and freak out because they no longer can use their phones. Do I tap the edit words? Is if a button? I don't know. These changes are the ultimate form over function, supposedly exactly what they told us they were not doing. Pretty sad state for so many users to update to find out they no longer know how to use their phones because 7 years of metaphors have been broken to keep up with a style invented for Microsoft to save power on their tablets. Trendy crap.

I don't understand the change to the interface. The thing iOS seems to need to me is some sort of file system so your saves persist when you delete a game and better cloud. These changes just don't help.

I don't like the Game Center icon either. I doesn't any sense. However, try to come up with an icon that will endure for a long time.

I'm all for an interface redesign and if the whole apple fandom world is now dead set against anything skeuomorphic then so be it, but please give us a little bit of texture. All of the plain white screens are actually devoid of any design sensibility. The flat icons are a step backwards and a trend of the moment at best (Windows 8). It's odd though that while video game and movie graphics continue to push for greater and greater depth and realism, iOS is abandoning all of that and moving towards flat cutouts and design desolation. Why does a person even need a retina display to look at a solid white interface and flat icons?

Last line is so true. I can enjoy this interface with a palm pilot. Super displays deserve better. Beautiful images and metaphors that make the interface more intuitive not less.

Ok. How about a four square with each corner showing an image from a type of game in high res minus felt. Boom. Someone hire me. I created (mostly copied) and icon that everyone knows instantly what it is for.

Imagine the next car game coming out and instead of a car they make their icon some multicored modern art triangles. Lame

Hold on, you complain about form over function and then suggest that some sort of file system is needed?

I think the Safari icon needs to be changed. Now there are two icons with compasses. A browser isn't a compass. It's not Netscape Navigator either so I think the compass has to go. The previous Safari hat was good or something completely new.

That was my thought exactly - who browses using a compass?
