Im not going to join the Apples doomed crowd. I will say that I truly believe that Job's inspired his design teams to do better and not settle ever, telling them "That's not good enough, I know you can do better" and encouraging them to push the envelope farther than they thought they ever could. With Cook I just don't see that push. I still think hes a great leader, but he's running a safe ship nowadays. Its like every year we hear this speech of "Amazing" products coming down the pipeline, but they've always ended up with lukewarm surprises once they do announce said Amazing products. Ive said it before, and Ill say it again the Surface Studio's design could've really been a nice evolution of the imac and a nice throw back to the days of the swivel head imac with the guts in the base.

He's a dreadful leader.

Would explain this.

the iPhone 7+ outlasts every other android phone in battery life by quite a bit (http://bgr.com/2016/10/20/pixel-xl-vs-iphone-7-plus-battery-life/) is gorgeous, has an incredible two camera system, best in class processor and is THIN. The new mac pros have best in class SSD/RAM - can power 2 5k monitors and have 4 USBc ports and are super thin. I'd say Jony is doing some of his best work ever.

My iPhone 7 is dead everyday by 3pm. I had an s7 and it lasted till midnight. I'm on my 6s now cause I like to listen to music while I sleep but I can't do that on the 7 and charge it. How is that better design? Form over function. Ive needs strong leadership and direction.

How long can they rehash and slim products without adding anything. When Microsoft bring out the most revolutionary device in years with the surface studio and Apple have all the tech to do it first surely you can see something is missing at Apple.

...now it seems that it's mostly form and not much function, this is because Ive likes form waaay more than function. Take the touch-bar - why does there have to be a gap in the left side, so the keys seem to be oddly placed farther to the right? Because there is a gap in the right side because of the fingerprint scanner... form over function.

maybe you know of a better place to drive the bar from?

Time for a new picture...Whatever happened to, I think it was Marc Newson?

Bring back Forestall. This flat stuff is garbage
Nothing is going to happen until the BOD makes it happen and they're probably satisfied with the status quo at this point. Too bad can't get fresh blood in the Board.

Heretical conspiracy theory:
Jony Ive was never a great designer, and the real talent from the design team left in 2010 (post iPhone 4) leaving the rest of the team to try and replicate their aesthetic without knowing the heart of it.

Further theory:
The design team also had a big shake up / exodus in the early 2000s, which is why we got this swift design shift from colourful translucent plastics to cold hard metals.

I'm being melodramatic, but although I'm sure Jony does a stellar job, you need an exceptional team behind you to create those kind of world-changing designs. Obviously the team will transform over the space of twenty years and it's not unreasonable to think that some of those talents moved on to other ventures where they wont be forever overshadowed by the public face of Apple's design team, which is Jony Ive. Imagine your frustration when you tell someone you designed the Power Mac G5 and they incredulously respond with:

"Rubbish, Jony Ive designed it, everyone knows that!"

Apple's design has gone to (bleep). The only reason I still buy Apple hardware is for the OS... Check that... It's really because MacOS and iOS are waaaaayyy more secure than any other operating systems. Otherwise I'd jump ship immediately! YES I SAID IMMEDIATELY!!!

I really hope Tim and the powers that be are reading what us true Apple users and believers are saying here. It's time for change at Apple. It's time to right the ship.

You're using macOS for security? Is that your only reason?

Well the 6 series was design garbage. It was like owning a bad Android device. The changes to the 7 while minor made a Huge difference. It's actually beautiful.

Here is the thing though, how do you turn an inherently beautiful geometric shape like a rectangle with rounded corners hideous? Impossible you say! But the 6 series did Just that.

The 7 cleaned up nicely though. Maybe he put his spaceship duties aside for a moment to help out in cleaning up the 7 and hopefully with it almost finished he can spend more time with the design team.

The 6 series had pent up demand for a larger screen and I don't blame folks for getting that dog, but it's certainly the worst iPhone and maybe smartphone design ever concocted. ...well no that honor has to go to the Google Pixel.

I'm pretty sure the inherent ugliness of the 6 series isn't really the antenna band's fault fully. The placement of the camera is to blame too. It's too offset to the right and no longer symmetrically placed like the 4/4s. Even the 5/5s was starting to get offset to the right but only ever so slightly. The 6/6s brought it to a whole new level.

Me as a perfectionist see it as a design flaw. I'm surprised Jony let that slipped through.

Thankfully the 7 series brought the symmetry back and now it looks much better.

Doesn't make since Apple keeps saying they have record sales but want to dump him? Someone is lying here.

Why would Jony leave when he's essentially calling the shots?
Somehow I don't see Cook challenging Ive on a design, the way Steve might have.

In some ways, the anger at Apple under Time Cook, might be misplaced.

every battery test has shown the battery of the 7 to be fantastic. my 7+ lasts me all day. perhaps you have a bad unit. you should return it. Apple has added quite a bit of tech to the phone. The surface looks cool - but how useful is it? i hate when people touch my screen.

(laughing)

I just don't see it. And that's the problem. :)

Don't we love lip-service, it's the new Apple product! It's amazing. Never before have we served so much lip-service in such a short time! Listen how we magically transform your experience by repeating the same phrases over and over again.

Listen!
New Macs... will arrive (at some point),
the next big thing... will arrive (sometime),
we have so many great things in the pipeline... (man, Apple, you've got pipelines which must be about the length of the USA!)

We love the pros... and we want their money (but we've got nothing to offer).
Ooops. Anti-climax.
Apple's C-suite execs have all turned into spin doctors trying to hype up inferior products. The keynotes have become very telling....they don't have enough to talk about (because how long can you drone on about thinner!) so they pull people up from other companies to kill time.

Form over function
can you all (not just you mr.Mac.. at least 10 others in this thread alone) please quit butchering this phrase.

or, better yet, show an example what you're apparently wishing for.. that being 'Function over Form'.
let's see an example of that, ok?
thnks
