More likely it's because Chicago isn't a center of fashion like NYC, LA, or Miami, but I'd think that the Hermes Apple Watch would be more popular than the Edition, which is sold all over the place, including 2 Chicago stores. It's called test marketing. Chicago simply didn't make the short list.
Go to Apple.com and price out the stainless with link bracelet. $1500 is not that much more. If you don't value the Hermes brand that much, then it's not for you. Simple.I disagree. I think they look great and would be a reason for me to buy the Apple Watch. I just wish it wasn't $1500. Can't any other third party manufacturers make something that looks/feels similarly great?
I share you sentiments.Love this new plan - great marketing and it nice to see Apple keeping the SS line as a more high end jewelry timepiece while the Sport is more accessible. And it definitely helps differentiate the apple watch from the lower priced android watches on the market. Looking forward to lots more collaborations in the future!
And what exactly did Hermes design on the Watch? Again ... NOTHING. A watch band does not a watch make, especially when it's no different from any other band Hermes designs for their other watches. Apple adapted a classic Hermes watch face, with permission, and likely approvals. Neither of those things make a significant contribution to the Watch itself. Plastering a Trademark on a digital watch face does not a Hermes watch make, no more than an ATT logo on an iPhone would indicate any contribution by the phone carrier.AT&T had zero input into the design of the original iPhone. Why would Steve Jobs (or anyone else) agree to AT&T their glomming their logo over the iPhone?
He is right. That $1K Hermés watch is exactly the same as my $349 sport watch except for the band and branding. In some ways this could be Apple's most egalitarian product as the functionality is the same where the you spend $349 or thousands.
I'm wondering if they are using the diagnostic port to connect to the band for verification. Only with that expensive band do you get the watch face enabled. At least that's what I'm thinking. It would make sense, that way Rolex, Omega, and all those other high end watches can create faces that require you to buy an overpriced band. The the watch face is only enabled if you have a legitimate band.
That port has a cover on it. I don't think they are using it for anything.

It amazes me how dismissive the Apple Watch Hermès has become.
I own a SS, and I'm parting with it to get the Hermès. I wonder about the demographics of those of you who are negative on this watch. For me, this will be the cheapest watch I've ever purchased. In my social circle watches are very important and most of my friends are in the under $10K market with models from Rolex, Panerai, Omega, etc. These watches are sold primarily because of the movement (what's inside the case), and they tend to hold value over the time. Some of my friends also purchase vintage timepieces at auction in similar price ranges, and they run as well now as they did decades ago.
I wonder how many of you wear a watch on a daily basis, or if you're among the group that abandoned watches and simply checked your phone to see what time it is. If you're in that class you'll never under the Apple Watch Hermès.
Watches are not about telling time. They are jewelry. They are fashion. They are luxury. If you simply want to know what time it is you can pick up a $10 plastic watch and get similar results from a Patek Phillipe.
I see this Hermès move accomplishing two things. One, this is a brand that targets female clientele, and while boys love their gadgets most of the women I've met have not been too taken by the AWS or SS. However, the women I've spoken to have gotten very excited about the AWH. We don't have a breakdown on the amount of men vs. women who have purchased the Apple Watch, but I wonder if it might not be a majority of men who have bought it.
Second, despite everything Jony Ive has said they absolutely have to go the luxury route. Most people who wear watches do so as a fashion statement, and truth be told there's nothing fashionable about a colored sport band. The existing leather bands Apple had were terrible, exhibited no signs of hand crafting - which is probably why they just redesigned the classic buckle. The Hermès bands are handcrafted in France and pulled from established, dare I say iconic, bands that they have marketed for decades.
Apple needed to make a bold move here, and they did just that.
And if you're in front of me on line in Miami on 10/5 - then I will shove you to the ground and ensure that I get my Apple Watch Hermès.
I was going to agree with you, then you used the word fanboi. Fanboi, fandroid, sheeple. These are words that tell me someone is a troll and not worth a bucket of warm spit. That is, by far, the stupidest thing I've ever heard him day. The whole point of the Apple watch is to be a ridiculously expensive fashion statement where people routinely spend hundreds of dollars on WATCH BANDS. For goodness' sake. $20,000 for a solid gold watch, but noooo, we're not trying to be exclusive. But the fanboi lap it up.
Well, I can't understand how to convince people how to spend so much money in something like this.
Oh well, tastes are tastes.
Real jewelry rarely has a shelf life of 1 year. Even if jewelry is faddish and gets outdated eventually, it doesn't run out of battery life, or suddenly no longer be upgraded to the latest Operating System.
But it's also instructive to know that folks like yourself think so little of human life that "shoving people to the ground" is so important to get something that will eventually be disposable.
Fortunately, I don't think anyone will be ahead of you (or behind you) in line to purchase this, so have fun while it lasts.

Apple products are more expensive than anything else, so what do you expect Ive? You charge twice as much than any one else, I can built a £500 Windows PC that's more powerful than your £2500 laptops.
When you can afford luxury you don't care about how long it lasts.
I pay rent at a luxury apartment community. For half that price I could be making a mortgage payment and at the end of 20-30 years own a house with serious equity. But I am literally throwing away more than the cost of the Apple Watch Hermès on rent each month, and at the end of the year lease I will literally have nothing to show for the money.
I know people who lease luxury cars, and after a year they turn the car in, and lease another. Never do they actually own a car, or have the ability to sell it. There's constant turnover.
I know people who spend hundreds on dresses - wear them once - then never wear them again!
You simply don't understand the world of luxury. I spent hundreds on a pair of suede shoes that I've worn exactly three times.
So if you think people won't buy a $1100-$1500 watch because it might not turn on in a year - that's the most incredibly naive thing I've heard about a luxury item.
Being an owner of several Ulysse Nardin and A. Lange & Sohne watches, nothing about the Hermes watch screams luxury to me.
Really? Then why do Patek Philippe watches still sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars?
"Fanboi" and "lap it up" means I can't take you seriously. I don't think you own, or ever owned, anything Apple ever.
