he should stop talking about design and start doing design.

iphone 8: lazy
iphone se: lazy
ipad: dear god how many more years of that tired design?

im aware i own all these products and love them, but for the love of god give these things a genuine refresh. what does he honestly do all day, year in, year out?

I haven't really cared about hardware as much as software. If you can't make software simplistic with great user's experience, then what's the point of making beautiful hardware? It's a platform for software.
Ease of use is important so long as the hardware is capable. Plus you can’t underestimate build quality. It’s one of those situations that the sum of all parts matters more imo.

"Ive said that there are "certain ideas" Apple has in mind, and that the company is "waiting for the technology to catch up with the idea.""

What? Like making the next iPhone & Mac laptops no thicker than a sheet of paper or designing computers that are obsolete on arrival?

More emojis too! And no way to upgrade memory, SSDs and the like.

Article quote:

"Sometimes design inspiration at Apple comes from poorly designed products, and that was the case with the iPhone. According to Ive, a loathing for the current phones at the time motivated Apple to come up with something new. "You think there has to be a better way of doing it," said Ive."

I like this quote. Because I feel this is so true about Apple, where they want to make a product better and a more refined experience than what the competitors do. This is what separates Apple from everybody else and what makes their products and software so unique. They don't want to be the first, they want to be the best.

So they make the same phone for 4 years in a row now?

Sure, but what good is the hardware if the software can't be optimized?

His statements are a proof for me that his ego has become bigger than his ideas. If the latest iPhone really took him and his team 5 years, I’m not seeing a bright future. Oh wait... it took him 6 years to develop a new MacPro if it sees the light next year... how long we have the iMac design? Sigh... o_O

If it took them five years to design the iPhone X I'd be surprised, the bezel-less display feels reactionary to other phone makers (not Samsung but just the smaller Chinese ones like Xiami)
how do you know it's not the other way around? rumors of Apple shrinking the bezel goes way back and Samsung and others were able to implement it faster

If this was 2012 then I would agree. Seeing as it’s 2017 though and Apple has made questionable design decisions rather than decisions that make for a better or refined experience then I disagree. How is a notch that cuts into your content, be it photos or games, make for a better or refined experience? It is bad design.

This is what people will be looking at when they save their Snapchat pics to their photo library. A notch that cuts into and obstructs content you are trying to view.

Yeah, I'm not going to forgive them for neglecting MacPro. Even though they announced that they are focusing on it, it's still ....urrggh.

What planet does he come from? This is so not true coming from a company who has the biggest profit margins on all its products from any.

He’s 100% correct. Designing for people and making profit are not mutually exclusive. You design something that the majority of people will want and you’re bound to make ridiculous profits.

You design something to satisfy the arrogant tech nerds (who think they speak for everyone) and you’ll be stuck selling limited quantities to a niche market (and making a fraction on the money).
