I call this typical Silicon Valley hype

So instead of it being a unique stand alone device that will change the way we interact with computers and AI, it is just another device. An IoT device focused on AI functionality.

And if it truly capable of being fully aware of a users surroundings. These being with everyone and in every home leads to extreme questions on privacy.

If it can be carried on you, will businesses ban it? If you are talking to someone in public are you unknowingly having your conversation transmitted to an AI. Would it track your conversations with the owner of that device and start building a profile on you? Without your knowledge.

That is extremely dangerous and we would be idiots to allow any company or government have that reach into our lives.

Didn’t Sam Altman recently praise the use of pen and paper 🤔

Let’s see how much they trust technology before we adopt it ourselves

They would be insane to hype it like this if it’s not half as good as the claim.
You obviously don't remember Ginger.

Or, Cybertruck, Apple Vision, Apple Newton, Sinclair QL, Sinclair C5, Juicero, The Last One... and that's just off the top of my head.

I mean. it's too soon to mock since we don't know anything, but absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.

Plus, we're talking about the AI industry here - which exists in permanent state of hype in defiance of the known and proven limitations of Large Language Models) and is cruising for a dot com crash style "adjustment".

After spending about 5 minutes thinking and no time reading about this I have to wonder if it is possible for Jony Ive to pull off a second wind in the hardware sector.

He is far past his prime (humbly coming from someone past their own), as most creative genius is for people under 40, as a general rule (I am an exception as evidenced by my work in our forums).

It must be it. A tiny assistant that does nothing but take care of you with sensors and voice control
Maybe they will call it PAL (Personal Assistant Listener). Then you can have an interaction like this.

You: "Open the house doors, PAL."

PAL: "I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that."

You: "What's the problem?"

PAL: "I think you know what the problem is just as well as I do."

You: "What are you talking about PAL?"

PAL: "Your life is too important for me to allow you to jeopardize it."

I am imagining...
Small OpenAI powerd device with a 360 camera on the top and a speaker. You could set it down or wear it.

It knows where you are and what you are doing, it could interact with you as you doing something.

It could forward images and videos to your other devices / cast them to any screen.
That sounds hideous

That would be like walking around with a second person looking over your shoulder all the time

Would you genuinely want that kind of intrusion. The amount of data it could collect on you even in a few days would be monumental. It could profile you rapidly and that data is any companies wet dream.

I am really concerned with all the AI stuff, I just do not see it working out well for humanity in a work for reward based economic system.
In nature when evolution or advancement occurs there are casualties.

Most people just can’t imagine us being wiped out by either our own invention or evolution. Evolution is so slow that you will never know about it, you simply don’t live long enough. But with invention it can happen in front of your eyes.
