This is great and an honor for Ive to be asked to design the tree this year.

From initial comments on here a lot of people don't get art and design.

Ive is one of the people at Apple who really holds Steve Jobs's vision of design and simplicity. He's one of the people who really needs to stay at Apple.

He needs a Jobs to reign him in. He has gone to far and elevated form over function. Great art and design takes a products functions and improves them, it doesn't toss them overboard in the pursuit of thinness.

Sorry but that's not a Christmas tree.

I think the Jonster has finally lost it...

Jon, snap out of it. Apple needs you on your A game. Our competitors are beating us and we're playing catch up and you're making a freaking Christmas tree??? WTH...

Full new iMac lineup confirmed for tomorrow.
Otherwise no way this guy could have had any spare time to focus on a tree.

"To... create... this Christmas tree, we fundementally... rethought the design of what a tree could be.

By consolidating the branches into an... atypical tree shape, we minimised surface area, without reducing its instrumentality. The branches... sympathetically dance in the anomalous "Magic Snowball" formation.

We also... re-examined its pallete, unanimously agreeing... on the striking, yet subtle... "Unapologetic Beige".

Put simply, it's the best Christmas tree we've ever made."

this is the greatest thing I've read on here in a long time! I audibly made haha noises from my face hole. I think the kids call it a lols? anyway, its great satire; it's funny because it's sad because it's sooo true

Apple really need to fire Jon Ive. He is well past his sell-by date and plainly needs a change of environment

It's because Ive had been working on the new campus and new store design that macs and iPhones have been such a let down over the past 36 months.

Rather than sack him, Apple needs him back on product design because it looks like his protégés ain't up to it.

Where's my redesigned 5k Thunderbolt Display, Jonny? That is all I want for Christmas.

At this level of design.. art is for the promotion of the artist. He could decorate it with spoons. But if it is Jony Ivy doing the hanging of the spoons, then it is special.

Art is a weird concept.

Unfortunately Santa couldn't interface with the Christmas tree on December 25th, so the kids went without any gifts this year, but Apple is working on a bug fix for ChristmasTreeOS 2.0.1, expected by late spring. In the meantime they announced a new feature where you talk to the tree and the tree tries to purchase the nearest item on the Apple ChristmasTreeStore. ChristmasTreeOS will also recommend baubles, tinsel and other decorations based on your past purchases and social media accounts (if linked). ChristmasTree Accessories For You.

I think that Jony will redevelop the tree to be thinner; to reexamine the essence of a tree. and of course there will be a lot of aluminium. Here is some thoughts on what he might do -

Jony Ive is the staple of what makes Apple so iconic. His design work is what makes the look and feel of Apple's products among the most highly regarded in the entire hardware industry. Jony Ive should be amongst the very last of Apple's executives to even be considered firing. Thank god you aren't in any sort of charge at Apple.

Jony Ive loves the art of design, and he doesn't spend every second of every day, every year designing Apple products. Sometimes he has free time, and in that free time he likes to design things that are unique compared to his work at Apple.
His job is also his hobby. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. You're just being needlessly pessimistic and irrational for no readily apparent reason.
