How strong are the actives?

They seem to heal incredibly fast from what I have seen. They can take quite a bit of abuse and refresh themselves.

When Echo was to get a massage, she instead had wires hooked up to her. That's not a massage but indicates that she is at least part machine.

And about the "dolls" who were killed. What so far indicates they can't be rebuilt like the six million dollar man? There are too many unanswered questions which will undoubtedly be explained in later episodes.

My theory right now is that Echo has almost no human attributes outside of what is put into her by her programmers.

But after each assignment, she becomes more self aware, like in the movie, "I Robot", and will start to develop more of a character with personality.

If FOX lets this show stay on, I think it has quite a bit of potential.

We've already seen the initial consultation and video of her before she entered the Dollhouse. Why she entered we don't know. I'm betting that they Actives are still fully human, and somewhere there's a drive with their original data that could be reloaded so that they could be released as though nothing ever happened. If the show goes on long enough I'd expect Echo, Alpha, and Sierra to all possibly be working outside trying to find/get in to get their old lives back.

I don't necessarily get them impression that they heal any faster, although it might be interesting to delve into injuries and how much of them are mental versus physical issues and if the healing process is helped/hindered by removing the memory of the injury's occurrence.

In one episode, maybe the pilot, they are referred to as "not real". Also the way the newest addition, Sierra, looked when they had her wired up.

I think, in part, they are real, or were real.

The handlers seem to have all the bodily stats on them as they are doing their missions. There is definitely something implanted into them, some biotech enhancement.

The show will let us know little by little, but I am yet to see any one of these dolls, or robots, walk through a metal detector. :)

I think they might have some monitoring sensors implanted, but I doubt that there are any enhancements. I think the initial treatment, in order to be effective, may require more electrodes in order to map the nervous system to allow for implants to work.

I really think that the dolls are fully human, other than status monitors, and any references to them being "not real" is due to the fact that they are assigned their "role" for each mission, and while they might think that they are indeed what they've been programmed to be, it isn't what they really are.

i actually like this show, and the sarah connor chronicles before it.

one or both might be canceled by the time may hits though.

Having now watched 3 of the 5 episodes I could get to, I'm mildly interested. It is nothing totally original to be honest, but sci-fi enough to keep my interest.
The first episode left me mildly lost and disinterested. The second one peaked my interest and the third made me want to watch the fourth. Not a totally horrid cast and I like the little scientist kid/guy. Overall, it's an interesting enough show that isn't a reality show ... which is good enough for me right now.

I think the idea behind the show is good and I always liked eliza dushku. But I question her range for this kind of role. She has to be able to play anybody from anywhere. While she's done a "pretty good" job she seems like the same person from mindwipe to mindwipe.

I'm a whedon fan so I'll continue to TiVo it.

The show is starting to pick up. I think it may have left too many holes in the beginning and thus boring to some. Many of the pieces came together last night.

Episode 6 gets the respected and coveted Nagromme Seal of Approval.

The first 5 episodes (still all on Hulu I think) are only "OK." But they still serve a purpose: they set the stage and then everything changes. Episode 6 had more surprises than the previous episodes put together, and some pretty interesting characters have emerged.

Hang in there through the slow start--I think this will be a good one! Darker and less humorous than Whedon's other stuff, but also with a more twisted plot. Layers of deception and scheming--not at all the simple concept you expect from the first episodes. Fun!

The show was good, but it stopped being good and became awesome yesterday.

QFT. I didn't see that coming at all. After seeming predictable, the show finally revealed its inner Joss.

EDIT: How will Fox screw this one up. It's on Fridays after all...

Definitely. I am now truly addicted! I'm also a bit annoyed that Fox isn't planning to air the extra episode.

Won't happen, because she's producing the show. Fox had a deal with Eliza for a new series, and she convinced Joss to write it. The show was conceived as a way to showcase her talents, so it's very unlikely that they will focus on other Actives.

Happy to have been proven wrong. :D

Me too. My wife is staying away, but I'll be sure to give her the DVD set so she can watch them back to back.

Wonder if the 13th ep will be available on iTunes/Hulu or only on DVD.

From what I've read they *are* going to air the 13th episode, it just might not be right after the 12th.

And spoiler..

I wonder if Amy Acker's characters is still alive after Alpha left with Echo. You don't really see her again. I'm guessing she is but I kinda liked her being around. She's usually listed as a guest star and Joss isn't known for keeping people alive.

I haven't heard of any plans to air the 13th episode in the US, or provide distribution online. They might air it if (WHEN) the series gets a second season. But it will definitely be on the DVD set out in July.

The show just got so much better with time. I loved all of Whedon's work but they always give him death slots.

But the show's DVR numbers are huge (averaging a 40% bump from live-plus-same-day to live-plus-7), online streaming is strong.

At least they're learning that a sci-fi show with hot girls and lots of violence might appeal to a crowd that utilizes DVR because the show happens to be on a night that a lot of them might not be home, and if they are home their either probably tech savvy enough to want to skip commercials, streaming it to their computer, or they have kids and never watch a live show anyway.

You guys see the extra episode 13 on the Blueray/DVD set?
That lifted the show to a whole new stratosphere for me :D

Just as soon as they put the season pass on iTunes. No commercials or timing issues, just pure entertainment.

It is on the DVR list. Seeing how the second season will play out.

I am excited to see how they do this series.

Unfortunately, on January 22, 2010, this will be it for the series. Just two full seasons for no contract for a third season. Season two will air 13 episodes where season one only aired 12 episodes, with 2 extra in the DVD set (or something like that).

What is wrong with the TV watching public?

I admit that Ugly Betty, for instance, has a much larger following and is a fine show. FOX can put something interesting on Friday night, but their attentions, and budget, will be earlier in the week with 24 and American Idol.

I thought this series deserved at least another chance.
