Apple will launch its first foldable iPhone in September 2026 as part of the iPhone 18 lineup, according to JPMorgan.

In a market research note to investors, the bank supported the increasingly corroborated rumor that Apple will launch the device next year. The iPhone 17 lineup will apparently offer few compelling upgrades, resulting in investor focus shifting to Apple's 2026 launches.

The first foldable iPhone will apparently be priced at $1,999 and create a $65 billion market opportunity for Apple, with high-single-digit earnings accretion in the medium term. JPMorgan forecasts foldable iPhone sales of around 45 million units by 2028, starting in the low-teens millions in 2027. Foldable smartphone sales in 2025 reside at around 19 million units; Apple's influence on the market is expected to be considerable.

Apple's first foldable iPhone is rumored to feature an inward-folding book-style 7.8-inch display with virtually no crease, a 5.5-inch outer display, a titanium chassis, a durable hinge with Liquid Metal, two rear cameras, and Touch ID instead of Face ID.

Apple has gone downhill the last 2 yrs. From software issues to iphones being too expensive. I predict they will go out of business by 2030. No one is gonna buy a phone or flip phone for $1,999.
This same type comment has appeared around every major product launch that Apple did in the last 25 years. I think it actually increases their luck somehow.

I think it will be good for Apple to enter the 'fold'. Competition is healthy. Also, I've been keeping my eye on the foldable forums, and I've never seen as many people switching from Apple as I have after the launch of the Z Fold 7. I am not saying this is doom & gloom for Apple, I'm just sharing my observation.

Nice! $2K! I expected Apple to charge more than that but I'll take it.

And for you people worried about the durability of foldables, specifically the Fold7, go to around the 8:00 mark. These devices are getting better and more durable by the year.

I love foldable devices, but the rumored size is just too small for my liking. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold is about the smallest I’d go, and it has a 6.3 inch cover display.

is not about that...is about the inner display...that even an sneeze can dmg it. Because the inner display is that extra to current iphones

Apple iOS / MacOS software has gone quite poor in recent years and this is just another hint at them doing what they did best, releasing a new product. It will be pushed back and back so they can get it right.

Your prediction is laughable. even if they didn't sell a single phone anymore between now and 2030 they wouldn't be out of business just by the sheer amount of hoarded cash they have and the income from services in their install base.

People say foldables are a gimmick but Samsung is still releasing them and I’m starting to see them more and more in the wild so they are starting to catch on. By next year, Samsung will already have yet another generation of foldables. I have been using the iPhone for years and I’m starting to consider switching. Apple is very behind, it’s the next evolution of the smartphone.

As someone who predicted the original iPhone would flop I learned that Apple is much smarter than me in knowing the market. I sure won’t bet against the foldable being a success.

Apple is definitely behind. Samsung will even be releasing a Tri-Fold this year. People will actually be walking around with a thin phone that has three screens. Impressive as hell!

Guess that means I will buy again one of their last products (the foldable phone)? ... I mean, I bought over the years a ton of 'last product' that were a sign of Apples doom since nobody wants their crap. Was always happy with my purchase - and glad I did not listen to the internet experts with their doomed product / company predictions but instead looked at the products and liked them.

Samsung's Galaxy Fold retailed for the same price, IIRC. Not to say Apple is infallible; in fact, I agree with your point about them heading downhill. Apple is a massive company with a wider reach than just consumers, with thousands of companies depending on them. People like us reading this post on this site, craving new Apple hardware and software, is exactly what's keeping them going. I'm curious to see what they have going forward because it's increasingly obvious that they're changing directions. Almost feels like they're in the NeXT era again.
