Jesus, you Apple sheep are really showing your true colors on this one... You don’t have the slightest clue how this will play out, none of us do, but one thing is for sure and that is that this battle will rage on in court for years. Another sure thing is that regardless of what is officially decided, Apple is not innocent here, not by a long shot. They’re definitely not the only guilty ones either to be fair, but they are certainly not innocent. And watching all the little fanlings like yourself flock to defend them at every turn just shows how much this company - who don’t even know you exist by the way - have you in the palm of their hands. Enjoy your shiny Apple iThings because this company only cares about money and control like I’ve never seen before from them (and that’s really saying something if you know anything about the history of Apple...)
Dude, we are talking about what we all saw the judge say and do.

Epic is going to, and deserves to lose in this case. This idea that they think they should be able to use Apple’s systems, customer base, higher revenue generating store, and not pay Apple - and worse, to operate their own store on Apple’s store and not pay Apple anything is insanity. It’s insanity because they’ve grownn their business in part because of Apple, which the court will recognize, and they knew full well what the rules were for doing business with Apple. If they want to do their own thing, they’ve got every right to do so, and Apple does as well, so they go their separate ways.

I’ve been waiting for this day for the past 5 years. I feel Apple is much worse than MS was back in the 90s.

imagine if Microsoft Windows required all the apps to pay 30% and must be distributed via the Microsoft store(and disabled installing apps Outside their App Store).
Would Apple Pay Ms 30% of every song or app they sell on iTunes?

gov needs to regulate the OS market. iOS , macs, Android, windows. Consumers should not be forced to only install apps through 1 source - like the App Store. It’s anticompetitive and since there is a duopoly for mobile OS I think the case is strong.

If apple allowed users to download and install apps outside iOS App Store this would be a mute point.

BTW - u can install apps on android outside the play store.

Two different companies, two different technologies. Apples and oranges.
ps4 remote play is local wifi to the ps4 located in the living room

xcloud is over the internet to a data center a hundred miles away, wifi or LTE

of course it’s apples and oranges. xcloud is going to have worse latency no matter what software stack they’re using. at best, it’s a little worse than ps4 remote play.

If making purchase inside the iOS app requires paying 30% cut to Apple, is Amazon paying Apple that 30% fee when people buying stuff thru the app?
Amazon’s Store is not sitting on apples servers. The app has a browser that is accessing amazons website. Games are quite a different animal. Apple is also not processing the purchase or handling the customer service for them.

Anyone not on it, would be losing in today's market. Until there is an real open phone OS which might happen in 2040
Android global marketshare is 85%
iOS is 15%

Windows marketshare is 87.7%
Mac marketshare is 9.4%

Plenty of games and apps sure aren’t on the Mac and they seem to be doing perfectly fine.

Why Epic won't make a website for buying something for the players? Netflix has a website for managing your account and payment.

Apple appears to make a distinction between digital content you consume on your device (ie: ebooks, movies) and physical goods that you summon via an app on your phone (eg: ride sharing, food delivery, online shopping).

I guess we could argue whether such a distinction even makes sense, but at least there appears to be a guideline that Apple seems to be adhering to consistently.

I personally supports this decision. Apple has full rights to pull any app from the store when it doesn't follow the rules, but it's plain subjective judgment to suspend a developer account because the developer refuses to "fix up" that app.

Either Apple make clear regulations in black and white about the conditions that your developer account will be revoked, or they should not use this to take advantage in a dispute.

IMO Epic is unethical to incite consumers to riot against Apple and make themselves a martyr, but it's wrong to suspend their account simply because you don't like them.

This is misleading. In the USA the market share for iOS is about high 40s% Almost tied with Android. Since this case pertains to the US, we should look at that instead. Android and iOS controller over 98% Of Mobile operating system market (Duopoly), they need to be regulated. Consumers need to have choices if they want to download/install apps from the iOS App Store or from outside the App Store. Apple is intentionally disabling this function to control the app distribution market and take a share of revenue from all app makers. MS would never had gotten away with this in Windows OS. Why should Apple?

A little off topic, but relevant. I just submitted this feedback on apple’s website:

“I am writing to ask that Apple work with Microsoft, Google, and Nvidia to allow access to respective game streaming app technologies xCloud, Stadia, GeForce now, respectively. I do not agree with Apple’s reasoning for blocking these apps, and consider Apple’s blocking of the apps to be anticompetitive. I will stop using and refrain from purchasing all Apple products until Apple chooses to be more competitive with what is available on the platform. I have purchased several Apple hardware over the past decade. Most recently I have purchased a $1,000 iPad Pro and a $1,200 iPhone. I find it incredulous that I have such restrictions on what I can install on these devices, having spent so much money on them.

I implore you to think twice about your strategy regarding these models.”
You knew what you were able to use on it before you bought them.

I’ve always wondered this, but apparently the 30% doesn’t get charged when selling physical items.
Apps sold in the store are that the app themselves generate income are charged the 30%. They use Apples platform and tools to perform their primary function. Without Apples tools, platform etc, they would not exist. The partnership between Apple and Epic has made Epic what they are today and given them scale on a profitable platform. Greed is what is driving this move.

Seems like Apple will win this. Not sure what makes Epic think they are immune to the rules that all other developers play by. Myself being a developer and having three apps in all of the app platforms, Apple, Google and Amazon, I have no problem with paying 30% to them, it’s their platform and software. Any platform that you sell on is going to require some type of payment. Either way this will be a long case.

The only part I’m certain on is that I’m glad I am not the one who’s going to have to decide all this!! :D
Yeah, just sit back and watch the drama unfold. This is going to be more exciting than a reality TV show, and it is not staged.
