Thank you, I was wondering why the judge was pushing it. This makes sense. Any other insights? how do you think it will go (seriously)?

If I had to bet, Apple wins. But I wouldn’t put money on it without a gun to my head. I think the judge clearly isn’t buying what epic is selling, but it will all depend on the evidence, and judges rarely overrule juries.

I could be wrong but I thought I had read somewhere that Microsoft/Sony/Nintendo also ask for 30 percent for similar transactions. If so why is this even an issue.
Because console market is not a general-purpose market and console is sold with a very cheap price and counting on the cut from sold games. This is not the model on general purpose market.

Consoles aren’t that cheap. And Apple argues that it’s phones are not any more general purpose than consoles. They are information appliances. So far the judge isn’t buying this distinction, end she will be the one who decides what the relevant market is.

All I want from this is a switch in iOS that allows me to install apps from sources other than the app store at my own risk. This shouldn't be too much of a problem. The ‘geniuses’ in the Apple Stores are already well-versed in blaming OS malfunctions and battery drain on third party apps. Surely they can extend their diagnoses to apps that come from outside sources...
I'm teaching my kid with python. I wish I can have a native python ide on ipad. And I also like to play MAME with all open roms on my phone. No way!

The problem is that IS too much of a problem. If Apple allows this then there will be a crapstorm of people complaining that their iPhone isn't working properly and try and blame Apple when it's really the 3rd party unsupported application that is causing the issue. And without a doubt (especially from this forum 🙄) not a single customer will accept any blame or responsibility and expect Apple to give them a new phone, and if Apple does not these same people will come shouting on social media that Apple screwed them over......when it was really the customer's fault in the first place.

While I agree Epic sued ONLY for their own interests, that action still caused Apple to reduce their App Store fee for smaller developers. I highly doubt they would have done it otherwise.

Apple doesn't realize that they're just driving customers that play Fortnite away to gaming PC, Android, etc.
LMAO if you truly think THAT many people who are gamers game on their phones enough for Apple to lose customers then you're definitely the wrong customer for Apple. If gaming was going to lose Apple business the Mac would've been long gone years ago and only a memory. Get real!

Really? How do they manage to avoid this with the mac?

This isn't like Qualcomm where settling was in the best interest of both companies, and customers. This one is just Epic being a greedy pain in the butt. Can't see a settlement here.

Epic does need Apple more because they develop Unreal engine which in-turn allows their licensees run Apple versions of their products.

Cool, and I read somewhere that this is an entirely different situation because gaming consoles are a different business model and the hardware is heavily subsidized by the companies with the prospect of future games sales...
You read that from Tim Sweeney, the CEO of Epic.

Dumb reason anyways. Nintendo Switch has made a profit off of hardware since day 1. It has less margins, but so does iPhone SE since Apple is betting customers would make up the difference in margins by buying Apple services. 0 difference there.

The Mac is a general purpose computer, while a smart phone is not? People expect to be able to load whatever they want on their computer, while anyone who has purchased an iPhone knows that they can only get apps from the app store. They also know they can go to Android if they want to side load programs.

Still not understanding this lawsuit. It's an Epic fail in my opinion.

Oh , so its even worse then no ? MS compensate their low margin HW via game developers ? why cant MS take the hit ? why would the game developer need to pay extra for that low margin ?

If MS would give the console for FREE , would it be ok for them to take 50% of the game developer income so they can make the same money as they make today ?

Note MS gains a TON of brand recognition from Xbox , they lock game developers into the MS DX API usage (which is the main reason you dont have gaming on a Mac and Linux , as developers goes DX first and sometimes only due to the sheer number of users) , they get to be the "cool gaming" brand and the only reason young folks use windows products outside of corporate , Xbox is a pillar in MS strategy , that should cost them money and not the developer.

Lastly , as years go by the console sales does make good money , the CPU is on an old node and its much cheaper same for the memory and storage , you would expect that 30% to be lower at the mid to end of the console cycle if you go by your theory , but alas , it never changed.

I'd rather it be a whole other build of iOS for those that wish to do so. Keep my iOS tidy please.
