We all win if Epic beat Apple on this one.
No we don’t. I don’t want more attack vectors on my devices. We all win if Epic beat Apple on this one.
Its pretty amazing that people don't really understand this point of the whole argument. You want more stores on your phone? Right up until you realize you don't, and your phone doesn't work anymore. Then you blame Apple for letting all these stores on the phone....No we don’t. I don’t want more attack vectors on my devices.
The backup process is one of the places where Apple does a poor job. I would love an option to selectively restore things, and be able to pick the restore date on an item by item basis.Genius: Have you tried restoring as new?
Me: Of course not. What’s the point of a having backup if I can’t use it to fix issues? Are people just restoring from backup for fun on the weekends?
That’s simply not true. Every time you launch an app, the OS performs a check to see if the app is allowed to run. Allowing third parties to hook into that system and bless that apps are allowed to run will absolutely open an additional attack vector.you wont get more attack vectors if you dont install other app stores. let devs choose to have sell at a premium on the appstore if you want that added security and dont trust anyone but them.
not having those app stores would generally mean not having those apps. In some cases that’s fine- i don’t use Adobe so i won’t install their store (for example) but if each common app has its’s own store, a lot of your phone’s space will be consumed by the Microsoft store, the Facebook store, the Tencent store, the Epic store, the Steam store, the Zynga store, the King store, the Adobe store, blah blah blah. all with their own licenses, purchase and return policies, privacy policies, update policies etc. It’d be a pain in the neck in a best-case scenario but God help you (cause Apple won’t) in the case of conflicts, incompatibilities, mystery bandwidth consumption, and other difficulties that might not be forseeable.you wont get more attack vectors if you dont install other app stores. let devs choose to have sell at a premium on the appstore if you want that added security and dont trust anyone but them.
And keeping customers who prefer the experience of a single App Store with vetted apps. Maybe that is a bigger (and/or more valuable) market. You might want to remember that Epic was kicked out of the Google Play store as well.Apple doesn't realize that they're just driving customers that play Fortnite away to gaming PC, Android, etc.
It doesn't help it.If that’s true, doesn’t that throw out their entire case?
So the "get out of jail free card" to extort developers and screw over consumers is to just sell your hardware below market value? Everything Apple is doing would be otherwise fine, but the mistake was Apple decided to instead sell at market price?Cool, and I read somewhere that this is an entirely different situation because gaming consoles are a different business model and the hardware is heavily subsidized by the companies with the prospect of future games sales...
I’ve wondered about this exact scenario also. I’m sure epic would absolutely balk at anyone adding features to their monopolistic ‘walled garden’ game. Microsoft flight simulator doesn’t charge developers for addons. X-plane doesn’t charge their developers for addons. If I can develop whatever they call their Addams for cheaper than epic, wouldn’t that only benefit the consumer. Epic should be happy, but I seriously doubt it.So then Epic is opening up its games for all developers to sell add-ons with no Epic cut of the sale and allow developers to add in things currently reserved only for Epic?
Isn’t that what Android is for? And if you’ve got a total hard on for iOS devices just don’t update the device to the very latest OS - you can jailbreak it for free and install any app you want. This is just a ******** attack against Apple having security on their devices.you wont get more attack vectors if you dont install other app stores. let devs choose to have sell at a premium on the appstore if you want that added security and dont trust anyone but them.
Lol, and then I was wondering why Apple should care about subsidized hardware. What happens when consoles have been out close to a decade. 🤦Cool, and I read somewhere that this is an entirely different situation because gaming consoles are a different business model and the hardware is heavily subsidized by the companies with the prospect of future games sales...
and you want to be quarantined on the jury for 2 weeks after at $25/day??Yes.
A better argument would be that a physically present jury would better be able to evaluate the truthfulness of a physically present witness. Harder to detect lying over video.
I‘m not volunteeringand you want to be quarantined on the jury for 2 weeks after at $25/day??
They better give you 5 star hotel for that with unlimited room service and mini bar + free in room ppv.
So that means no more jury trials.I‘m not volunteering. I don’t think there should be any in-person/jury trials until we’re all vaccinated.
I have to buy xbox live so my kid can play fortnite "for free."I could be wrong but I thought I had read somewhere that Microsoft/Sony/Nintendo also ask for 30 percent for similar transactions. If so why is this even an issue.
Just like it is on Mac, right? The problem is that IS too much of a problem. If Apple allows this then there will be a crapstorm of people complaining that their iPhone isn't working properly and try and blame Apple when it's really the 3rd party unsupported application that is causing the issue. And without a doubt (especially from this forum 🙄) not a single customer will accept any blame or responsibility and expect Apple to give them a new phone, and if Apple does not these same people will come shouting on social media that Apple screwed them over......when it was really the customer's fault in the first place.
This is all at the behest of Tencent anyway, Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo best pay attention because they are coming for them next.
Bro, you are talking about macOS? It is so amazing that fans can so easily forget macOS.....not having those app stores would generally mean not having those apps. It’d be a pain in the neck in a best-case scenario but God help you (cause Apple won’t) in the case of conflicts, incompatibilities, mystery bandwidth consumption, and other difficulties that might not be forseeable.
I don’t want to struggle with that crap. that’s why i chose an iphone. If epic wins this case the iphone turns into a schizophrenic mess within two years.
Yes, just like MacOS where I have the App Store then I have Steam to get to it's games, I have Origin to get to EA games because they made them exclusive to their launcher, I have to get the Epic Games launcher for content from their platform that they paid developers to make exclusive to their platform and I have to deal with Adobe's malware launcher tool if I want to use their tools. If I'm not dealing with their app store like tools, I'm dealing with some apps random Sparkle updater deciding it hates life and having to go to their website to download an update because they borked something. Or perhaps worse an app not having any sort of automated update facility at all.Bro, you are talking about macOS? It is so amazing that fans can so easily forget macOS.....
