The MacRumors article failed to mention that Apple's patent 7,469,381 has been temporarily invalidated by the patent office -- because it was already covered by other patents from OTHER inventors than Apple. If it stays invalidated, then this whole money pile will shake even more.

Anyway, for Apple a billion bucks is peanuts and for Samsung it's only a speeding ticket that doesn't keep them from leading the pack.

Stock will probably be 400 by end of next week. Wonder if Apple will respond.

Why do you feel the need to post meaningless apple worship dribble in every post and what's with the Jony Ives hero worship coming from you and your stupid avatar. You have a gay crush on jony Ives and you think he's gonna save Apple and the planet we get it.

No. I didn't say that. I didn't say anything else than the fact that she's korean descendant.
Anything else you may think comes from your own imagination. The same goes for the others who replied to my post.

You brought up a totally irrelevant fact to stir the pot, nothing more.

And now you're backpedaling and pointing fingers saying "No, no! It's really their fault!"

He exercises in the Apple gym every morning at 5am. Best way to relieve stress, or in this case prepare for a stress-filled day.

Boycott Samsung! They are scum.

Yes boycott samsung they are scum and then where would you be without you precious Itoys and other apple products.
thust you forget that most of the parts in your beloved itoys are made by Samsung.

The Apple sheep,

read my comment. I didn't say she was korean. I said she would happily live there with benefits from Samsung

As a natural-born American, she would not be eligible for permanent residency (let along citizenship) in South Korea unless she either married a South Korean citizen, or else personally invested at least US$5M into the Korean economy.

Why you just don't sit down and wait to see what happens with this judgement?

You are quick to critize, but what if what you think I'm implying with my post is true? I'm sure you don't want to end up looking like a quick-mouth talker, right?

It's better to wait and see what happens. This is far from finished.

So, mister random facts of no relevance, care to share her shoe size? Which hand she writes with? Her favourite food?

I'd like to get to know the woman more beyond her place of birth, but in the style of your original post. How about some "Amazing Iceman random Lucy Koh facts of the day™" randomly dotted into threads?.

Is anyone aware that Judge Lucy H. Koh's favourite colour is blue?

Is anyone aware that Judge Lucy H. Koh uses a Windows Phone?

Is anyone aware that Judge Lucy H. Koh's favourite food is Ddukbokkie?

Is anyone aware that Judge Lucy H. Koh is korean descendant which bears no relevance to the case but I just thought I'd randomly put that out there so you can make your own judgements on her but if you assume I'm planting the thread trying to say she is biased in any way it is YOU with the problem not me, OK?

Everyone who saw through your mildly racially suggestive post is wrong. Lucy Koh facts of the day™ are all that matters.

Please share more!

Yeah I change my comment a bit. I heard there was a math error.

That said, It shouldn't of taken 6 months to get this fixed. In fact, the monetary value shouldn't be decided. It should be a yes or no question. In which the yes and no dictate the penalty amount through a system to remove system error.

Wow, I didn't know you would get as low by making false quotes.
I have nothing against Koreans!

Well, you got me there.

I don't know if her favourite colour is blue. Nor if she uses a Windows Phone. And finally, I don't actually know if her favourite food is Ddukbokkie.
But one thing we are all now aware of is "that Judge Lucy H. Koh is korean descendant" - not that that matters in any way shape or form, you just mentioned it in passing.

Do you normally randomly point out people's nationalities in threads? "Tim cook is American ", "Sir Jonathan Ive is English!" type of thing?

Can you help me with this - me being the simpleton that I am:

And this fact is relevant because ....

You go figure it out... I just pointed to that.

Now, my simple mind sees only one thing - Samsung is a South Korean company and the fact you pointed out Judge Koh is also Korean that she has some nationalistic bias towards the company that originates from the country that she no longer lives in.

You've asked us to figure it out and I will be 100% honest with you that I can't figure it out (only my assumptions above).

Will you help a simple Englishman out by explaining as to why you decided to mention her nationality at all? Not a "I just pointed to that" - Give us a reason!

Live up to your name. Be AMAZING by helping someone such as myself understand your wisdom and motives.

Well clearly Samsung has paid her off to the tune of billions - so she could invest 5M.

Imagine any other walk of life where one set of highly paid experts reach a conclusion and then another set of highly paid experts say that conclusion was wrong and their new one is right - until the next set of highly paid experts come up with yet another conclusion ... and so on until all the money has gone. Are they simply making it up as they go along? You wouldn't pay your builder on that principal, that's for sure.

Your analogy falls flat in the face of the fact that the initial jury was not a set of highly paid experts. They were regulars with little knowledge of patents and patent law.

What WRX said. Plus that's...uh...generally how the world works. No one knows what the hell is going on.

And yet people still trust weathermen/women, right?

Perhaps the only job that the person can suck SO bad at it (be so wrong most of the time) - and still have a job the next day.

Imagine if doctors, lawyers, mohels, etc could be as wrong as weather people!

I dunno where you live, but our local weathermen are pretty decent. In fact, since tornado alley decided to drift east into my neck of the woods, they've gone kinda crazy with the lengths they're willing to go to report on the weather.

Like "Hey, we've got severe activity up in Blah County, so we're gonna give old Steve the Intern here a cellular webcam, and get him to drive right into the heart of the storm".

Let me tell you, it makes for some entertaining TV.

----------

Then what was the point?

That's the root question that lies at the heart of all this. Patents shouldn't be judged by a standard jury, since being able to do so accurately requires a huge amount of technical knowledge and a good grasp of both the lay of the industry and the history of the subject.

And this is exactly why Apple has lost their cases in pretty much everywhere else except in the US.

Note: Judge Koh was born in Washington DC, and went to Harvard.

She never lived in Korea.

Well I never! The way people carry on about her ethnicity, I'd always assumed she was the daughter of Kwon Oh Hyun himself. :)

Thanks for that kdarling.

I really don't understand people's negative reaction to her heritage now if she was born and raised in America. Makes you wonder what all the racial connotations are all about (depending on her latest legal decisions).

1. She's Korean, she hates Samsung and it's not fair - if an Android/Samsung proponent sees he make a decision favourable to Apple.
2. She's Korean, she supports Samsung because of that - if an apple proponent sees her make a decision favourable to Samsung.

I'll be careful not to make assumptions based off the racial slurring bought up by others in future.

Facts eh? We'll have none of that here! Thanks again! :D

Edit:

It really has got me thinking, do these same people think that African American judge should not reside over a case between an African American and a Chinese American for fear of racial bias? I really thought the developed world had moved on from such simple mindedness.

For fear of politicising the thread, I will stop now..
