I don't understand law suits. Samsung were told to pay Apple $1bn in damages like a year ago and they still haven't paid it? They should pay it when they were told to.

FYI: This is not the end of it. Both Apple and Samsung can appeal. One claiming too less and another claiming too much. It will wake another 12-18 months.

1) Being competitors isn't a big deal. Look at HTC and Apple, they settled.
2) yep. Apple tried to settle with Samsung outside of court too. That didn't work out. (Thinking they can get away with it.. Looks like they actually might)
Second point) Actually Samsung was Apples primary supplier.
3) Not really. Look at the court cases. I remember there being app icons that Samsung clearly copied and pasted.

HTC settled because it was in their best interest. They couldn't fight that fight. Their resources (pockets) aren't as deep. They made their deal out of survival. Good move for them.

Yes - Apple "tried" to settle with Samsung. The terms were laughable. No company would submit to those terms. The lawsuit was inevitable. As far as being a supplier - a bit of a chinese wall there

3. That wasn't my point. My point was that the clock was a simple cut-and-dry one issue matter to settle. The AvS battle was far far far more complex.

Are you saving that if a company has money they can blatantly copy from other companies? Settling is still settling and seeing as 1 billion was something Apple was awarded, I'm pretty sure whoever rejected Apples terms got fired.

No. I didn't say that.

And I'm pretty sure whoever rejected Apple's terms is very well employed by Samsung. Why wouldn't they be. You think this is about a billion dollars here or there? It's not.

It's about patent validity and legal precedent for legal cases. Apple wants it. Samsung doesn't.

Remember back when Apple news used to be about computers?

Steve got rid of all that starting in 1998 or so.

----------

You can feed a Country on the amount of $ this lawsuit is wasting.......

And the taxpayers are picking up HUGE expenses for all of this. Companies like Apple are using lawsuits as a profit-making venture, with much of the cost at taxpayer expense.

And meanwhile, they use manipulations and avoidance schemes to pay lower tax rates than the janitors who clean their retail stores.

No. I didn't say that.

Of course Samsung doesn't want it, they are a company that is centered around copying other companies. Not saying Apple is in the right, but come on! Have you seen the new Samsung Wallet? How about the naming schemes for there products? SVoice, SPen, etc. yes Apple didn't invent putting a letter in front of a name, but isn't it too much alike? Yes, yes it is. Coming up with a name isn't even hard. Granted effective ones are, so maybe that's why they did it, I don't know. More examples

http://www.businessinsider.com/samsung-designs-2011-4?op=1 (again not all are good examples, but yea)
Yes it's good to take ideas from other companies, but making cheap clones is just wrong.

I'm not getting into this discussion again re: what samsung did or did not copy. Especially since most of it has been debunked or proven that even Apple wasn't the first. But whatever. You'll also note that in the wallet thread, I stated that Samsung did copy. That being said - that copying will ultimately benefit consumers and Apple because the more companies that adopt that tech (vs NFC which in the US, at least, is having trouble) the better.

As for SPen and whatnot. Their company name is Samsung. Could they have come up with a better name than SPen? Sure. I guess. But it could equally sound stupid or so wackadoo that the only purpose was to be "different". It's a pen or a Stylus. SStylus is silly. Calling it just a stylus is silly. Anything more than adding a simply letter makes it wordy and not ad friendly.

But anyway - the money isn't the issue of concern in this trial. Samsung has plenty of it - and Apple does too. Neither company needs it.

The wackadoo part in this thread is (now) implying that Koh is on some Samsung payroll. Ridiculous assertion.

What? That every Korean expat and descendant the world over is secretly allied with Samsung?

No. I didn't say that. I didn't say anything else than the fact that she's korean descendant.
Anything else you may think comes from your own imagination. The same goes for the others who replied to my post.

Your butthurt is strong.

Samsung stole the name schemes from Apple? I guess you don't remember the Samsung SCH-i600 that was released in 2003. So yep, Samsung put a "i" before Apple ever did. Motorola also released phones in 2005 with "i" in the phone's name as well.

Sorry - I'm calling you out for this BS reply.

"Is anyone aware that Judge Lucy H. Koh is korean descendant?"

Are you really going to play the "innocent" card. Please. Why point it out? Or are you suggesting you made some random comment that has nothing to with anything?

And when someone asked why you pointed it out you replied "You go figure it out..."

So you meant something by it.

And that matters why?

Grow the hell up.

If it didn't matter to you, then keep your comments to yourself. It seems you are the one who needs to grow up.

I'm also under the impression that the jury were... American citizens!

Corruption everywhere! /s

Hey, I didn't say anything about corruption. It seems you may have a hyperactive imagination.

Actually - Motorola started as early as 1996 with the "i" naming convention...

I don't get your point. You stated in your earlier post that Samsung basically copied Apple's name schemes yet now, you're doing research and pointing out that Motorola has already done this 17 years ago?

Good trolling! Purposely state something, then goes back on their own statement when someone else points out that they were wrong by doing their own research and pretending that they were right all along.

Only I did nothing of the sort. I didn't say they copied. I said "As for SPen and whatnot. Their company name is Samsung. Could they have come up with a better name than SPen? Sure. I guess. Maybe you meant this for the other poster? I was agreeing with you and adding in that you were not only right - but that it started even earlier.

Except your accusing the wrong guy. Haha
Check back and see who actually wrote what you quoted. Hint, it was me.

I'm curious - I'm making some tin foil hats for some of my friends. Since you love yours so much - how many rolls do I need to make a really good one?

As many rolls as it takes until the next trend sets in for you to sheep along with

While most people assume iOS mostly copied Android's notification menu, they don't realize that Android's notifications menu is mostly a copy of the Windows Mobile home screens. These started in about 1999, and were most likely inspired by 3rd party backdrop applications for the Apple Newton from around 1996. If anybody were to get credit for the notifications UI of iOS and Android, it'd be those long forgotten developers.

The underlying architecture of Android's push notification system is actually a ripoff of iOS'. But since most people arn't developers, they wouldn't know that. (in short, c2dm duplicates iOS' push notification system)

You're so cute when you write those fables.

Heh.

Don't worry, Judge Lucy Koh will predictably be "hired" by Samsung as a special counsel after this trial is done. Exactly like what happened to that Apple-hating British judge that forced Apple to make a public apology. He works for Samsung now. No surprise that he was a pro-Samsung confederate all along.

Four Apple hating judges.

I would pay to look to all of those full of hatred people slandering others if someone accuse them of corruption
