The fear is real?

How many feel some degree of fear/apprehension in what the next month's activity goal will be?

One month last year, I think it was a plot to kill me. I had to double my move goal 20 times that month. WHAT?!?!

Never. I always look forward to seeing the new challenge ahead of me!!

Took a dive - tried to break my fall but the fall broke me😂😂 Life can be dangerous in your early 70s😂😂

Scary! I am glad it wasn't worse. Good luck with your healing!

A healthy fear for me.

Never. I always look forward to seeing the new challenge ahead of me!!

Pretty much agree... once my monthly challenge is complete, I have to admit I'm excited to see what is next.

if you "fear" what a computer/algorithm tells/asks you to do ... I won't comment any further ...

I think the “fear” of these challenges comes mostly from the generation of snowflakes coming up today. They really don’t want to be challenged. They just want to get an ward of some kind. And they want the easiest possible path to receive it.

If it’s not a tough challenge, it’s not really a challenge is it?

You can somewhat tell what it should be. It is randomized out of about 6 different tasks, will select one, and then push slightly higher than how you did in the last month. So, if you had double your move goal 20 times last month, but walked or ran 130 miles, if this month you get mileage, it'll be 130+ a bit so 132 or 135 or something similar.

I took a dive this past Thursday morning, but nowhere near as serious as yours. Man, those pictures look scary.

When I doing my early morning (I leave the house around 5:15 AM) in the neighborhood, my foot caught on a sidewalk "gap" where there was about an inch vertical difference between 2 slabs of concrete. I hit the sidewalk a little hard, but sprung back up and kept running.

Got home and saw a circle of blood on my kneecap about an inch in diameter. Now it is scabbing over and I got in a 11.7 mile run this morning, so not too bad.

Here is my medical advisor telling me to suck it up and go run.

Well, you did get a Cat Scan...

My orthopedist is all about the divot to the inside of the front of the knee. 'If this fills in, call me right away, otherwise, keep doing what you are doing!'. *shrug*

Oh, I totally get it...

But, damn, some of the 'goals' for the month are really brutal. Like some I really honestly couldn't top if I tried really hard to. I mean, I have a life, and want to not die on my trainer, or treadmill, or whatever...

But someone has to power the Matrix (Meatrix?).

I'm expecting 'Crawl on one knee for 200miles' or something such!

I get that... I'm having some joint issues, and it's DAMN HOT here, so some of the goals I can see as being 'Sublimate yourself by...'

One I thought was harder than crawling through broken glass drenched in Purell. But I woke up, and realized I still had a week until the next goal.

I have a Peloton, and the first month I rode it every day, I started having dreams that the instructor I liked was in my home, and I was on the bike, and it was just hell... I finally took a couple recovery days. I was shocked how real the dreams were.

The "Matrix" will only control you when you let her (or him?)

If you go back through the years for the monthly thread you will find many comments that the challenges are too hard and such, and I get it, one of the true shortcoming is really that AW does not allow for "rest days" ...
I've been tracking my activity for 5.5 years +, my current move streak is 2035 ... and for the first 2 or 3 year I was "obsessed" to meet my challenges, but, what is more important, meeting a challenge or look in the mirror and say "I've done the best I could"? So, I am way more active than I ever was in my life, I get on my spin bike every day and do currently 16 miles, every day, I currently burn ~ 1,050kcal/day, give or take, exercise minutes ~85 or so ... but, I've set my move goal way down to 300. I do not want the watch to chase me, do not want to be the "slave", it is in MY control. So, this month for me was easy, close all rings every day, been doing that anyway for 18+ months, I double my move goal every day, so challenges in that category are easy for me ... but say next month I have to burn 40,000 kcal, not sure I can make that cause Aug is the hottest month of the year and temps somewhere around 100 - not gong to kill myself, will do my bike routine as always and if climate, time permit, who knows ...

Key is: Look in the mirror and if you can say to yourself that you've done all you could and given your bet, then that's awesome.

I love the watch, still probably my favorite Apple device, I for one just don't let it "control" me anymore ...

And having said that, I have to get up now for a 1 minute walk to close my 12th stand ring for the day so I can create another post that I have completed my July challenge

I totally get it. I *wanted* to hit all of the goals, but did notice, and unsurprisingly notice that the goals for the month got harder. Well, duh, was my answer. If you get 'better', it wants you to push a little harder.

I had over 2 years where I met every goal, and got months of awards for hitting those goals. One, I swear, I bled for. It was hard... I had surgery a few years ago, and had to sit out a couple of months, and realized that I was stuck on a treadmill, of increasing difficulty. I also have a wife that is a good cook...

I had the BMI in the mid-teens. The will power, the drive. Now I have bad knees and bad hips, and some days, it's hard to crawl out of bed. I manage. I rode nearly 8,000 miles last year. (Well, close)

My brother got divorced and lost 30 pounds. But that's a bit severe?
