I don't understand why current iPhone owners can't just buy a phone and leave. I don't want anyone opening my iPhone box or handling my phone, putting it on a counter, etc. No way.

And what are they going to do? Have a bunch pre-opened for convenience/speed? Eww.

No no the IMEI number will be one the out side of the box and they will activate it that way! I hope!

Is there proof of them actually using the retail activation only version of Itunes? I saw earlier they would be putting in the IMEI of the phone to track its activation and let you do it. That would make things much quicker and i know some of us wont want an incompetent att employee handling our brand new iphones

I heard they plan to lick each one before they hand them to us too....

;)

No news anyone? Did they even talk about the iPhone 3G? I expected to see a post with news.

I'm guessing the meeting's probably not even over yet. My friends that work at the store talk about their store meetings which are more often than not held on Sunday nights starting at 7, after the store closes, and sometimes not getting out until 11, or even midnight sometimes. So...we'll just have to wait and see.

I completely agree.

I think that they should only activate phones in-store for new customers. Exsisting customers who have been with AT&T for many years(5 for me) should be able to activate through iTunes!

I also hate the fact that they get to open OUR phones, touch them, and all that crap. I like being the first person to open my new gadget... especially after paying $300 for it.

Them not getting out until 11-12 is probably an accurate assumption. Working at comp for so many years, all our meetings were at 7, an hour after the store closed, and depending on what they were about (like when the company changed its strategy completely one of the 50 times it did) it be a 3-5 hour event. Awful.

Edit: comp = CompUSA

Maybe the new iPhones won't have the nice shiny shrink wrap on them. That would make it easier activation and wouldn't feel as painful as removing shrink wrap in the store vs. home like the 1st gen.

lol yeah thats true,... i mean, im planning to not take a look at the iphone till everything is installed, and once my other one is back-ed up, that way i can fully use it, and test it. and enjoey it at my first sight.... instead of playing with the home screen saying "Connect to Itunes"

I can't imagine that they will enforce a limit of one per person when new customers are activating new family accnts and porting numbers.

They're going to need to activate both phones when setting up the account, right? Does anyone really think they'll send someone to the back of the line and suspend setting up the account or a transaction half way through the process? It doesn't seem like this would be wise logistically.

The odds that I'd get my wife to the store to wait in line are about equal to Apple launching a surprise 3g iphone in pink.

Actually 2.0 has to come out before the 11th, because now according to the apple website, they put up a 2.5g to 3g upgrade steps and it says you have to have the current OS and Itunes for the 2.5g to back up for your new 3g. So my guess is before the 11th.
And i really hope so because i want to see once i have 2.0 do i really want the 3g phone than.

You can back up your 2.5 on 7.6.2.
Then get your new 3G, install 7.7, probably update 2.0 to the current build with 7.7, then restore from your previous backup. Just a guess.

So whats the word? Did they have the meeting? Did they say anything?

Has anyone asked someone at an Apple store?

It's been said that they will strictly sell one per person, regardless of whether it's a family plan or not, according to the leaked documents as well. How exactly they're going to work that out with family plans is anybody's guess at this point.

That would piss me the hell off if I send my wife down there and she only come home with 1 f--ing iphone, That would screw up my # porting, they cant do that. They have to let 1 person buy more than 1 phone if its a family plan and the plan is in that persons name only.
