I think it was very fair

I wouldn't want that Apple would have won everything... I think Samsung must remain an important player, this in fact helps apple to be better. But they, in my opinion, where incredibly lazy in copying Apple, I mean, just look at the transformation Apple has done to the whole industry, from retailing to modifying of how the concepts should have been!

I think it was very fair, but I also hope that Samsung gets note from this, and keeps enhancing their products... They are awesome

Next: Out of court settlement for Google to pay fees on every Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean, and image of Eric.

How ya doing Eric? Sleep well. :apple:

I don't see how they sue Google. Google gives away the Android system for free. Google does not make a profit on the android OS. That is why Apple had to sue the manufacturer. They are the ones who make the profit on the OS.

Get ready for circular phones everyone. Apple now has ammunition to go after companies using their rectangular designs.

When all the "No"s were being read re Apple (not) infringing Samsung, I literally thought of this! :D

Apple just opened a can of worms. And the sleeping giant. If they have Google, Samsung, HTC, LG and several others gunning after them...they just might regret this.

Because they weren't gunning for them before?

Where has common sense gone?

Excuse my ignorance, but why is Samsung paying for the damages when Android infringed on the software side? Isn't android owned by google?

For a couple of reasons. One, Google wasn't a defendant in the case. And two, Samsung is in control of the implementation of the UI in such a way that it can infringe the patent and trade dress claims in question.

This doesn't stop innovation. It rewards it. And forces others to come up with their own ideas (innovate) or pay the licensing for other's ideas. Why invent the next great thing if everyone is free to copy it 6 months later in the name of "competition" and low prices.

This is great day for innovation. The desire and cost to innovate is lost when your innovations are not protected from being stolen. Why innovate when you can copy.

When people can copy it forces you to continuously innovate. When you can sue others for copying you - it allows you to become lazy.

Exactly. The patent is one of the foundations of American prosperity, and has been since the very beginning of this country.

Um... I think the can of worms Apple just opened is called "precedent." In our system, it's a good thing to have on your side.

And the precedent here is that you can use bogus patents to fend off the competition. Both Google and Samsung have order of magnitude more patents than Apple. They might decide to use this precedent to their advantage.
