Well there's a shocker, an American jury finds in favour of an American company  no wonder the rest of the world hates America

----------

Nope not at all.

Apple also had a simular court case against Samsung in Korea. Considering the Korean courts found Samsung not guilty of infringing on any patents, I consider the American verdict quite fair.

This is a sad day for innovation.

Pinch to zoom? Double tap to zoom? Bounce back feature?

Might as well sue all the companies that made mouse peripherals for desktops then.

How is it innovation if all Samsung is doing is using APPLE's stuff?

Apple DID ask Samsung to license these. Microsoft does license Apple patents. Samsung simply refused and went ahead copying stuff left and right.

Please tell me how THIS is innovation

Or may be this is innovation?

I remember sometime ago they even went so far as to using Google Maps UI on their website promotion material (which they later removed). I ain't kidding you.

Samsung is shameless. They proved it time and time again. So please don't give me "this is a sad day for innovation or the consumer". *********. They never innovated.

Could be a long time before we see any mobile related evolution, that is, if Apple is to win all arguments made in their case.

Cost will also soar. The iPhone 7? $599, $699 and $799.

Apple will say: "Why not? Where else are you going to go? Mwuahahah!"

What an interesting comment... Are you saying Nike is cheap cause some Chinese knock offs are blocked??!!!? This verdict will hopefully increase revenue, less pressure on operational costs and R&D and apple will have the option to lower the price.. I don't see anything wrong with this. Samsung should pay for this cause they did almost no real innovation and Zero r&d on smartphone look and feel or operation (not talking about cominications or wireless functionality).

Do I sense a little America is #1 envy.

AMERICA, Greatest Nation on Earth with number 1 companies like AAPL 674.95

Designed by Apple in California
Assembled in China

FYI, more of the people involved in the production of Apple products aren't in America.

I heard something about Samsung owing 2.372B dollars, what was that about? Because everything else says 1.05B dollars.

This is the most annoying thread ever, it makes me hate apple. They never really invented anything, they do make it better but nothing from scratch. I do not think they should have won the case.

Wow, those two Apple-associated candidates (Potential Jurors) sound brazen.

The Apple employee said he wanted his company to win. Not sure how that would be considered "Brazen". I would call it being honest. The other said he was in an "Apple Family" and so he was dismissed also. It appears they were both very upfront and honest about their thinking. How is that "brazen"?

I find it surprising that Samsung (and apparently some anti-:apple: MR readers) think that breaking the law is good for consumers. If there is a fault here, it's not Apple's. It is the patent system, and frankly Samsung were playing the same patent game as Apple. The only difference is that Samsung got their a$$ handed to them.

In any case, this should put an end to the debate about whether Samsung (and by extension other Android phone manufacturers) have copied Apple. They have. Android owes its success to Apple.

The Accord is made in Ohio. The Camry in Kentucky. The VW Passat in Tennessee. The Chevy Impala: Ontario. Ford Fusion: Mexico. So which cars are the "American" ones?

Anyway, the Accord is a bit sportier than the Camry, which has a plusher suspension system.

Your "retort" to my analogy makes no sense at all. Was it really that above your head or should I start naming models that you would need to look up in Wikipedia?

Of course those stupid icons aren't innovation. They were used by Microsoft and skype before Apple. They were used by others before that. Note that the Apple TM covers that icon with the stripes. The others don't have stripes. The prior art has no stripes, so that point is unique to Apple. The older phone receiver is not, so can we please retire that idiotic example?

If Apple genuinely has the consumer as a priority then they should NOT seek to ban simply get Samsung to pay for the devices that are deemed to have infringed (on pathetic patents)

Whilst Samsung should not have stolen any ideas.....one thing they have done with them is make them even better for many people where Apple seem to keep an idea stagnant for as long as they can and even then only slightly improve it

Take the device shape for instance....the devices may have a similar shape but Samsung identified a demand for larger screen sizes so did so, whereas Apple have simply refused no matter how many of their consumers have been screaming for it for years they will then next month increase the screen size and claim it is again revolutionary in some way (even though for many 4" is not enough)

iPhones used to be great, I had the first one, the 3G, 3Gs, iP4 & 4s but I ultimately got bored with how restrictive iOS is and wanted something outside of the 3.5" screen and saw something better in my Galaxy Nexus........oh and BTW I am switched on enough to know that it is different and didn't but it thinking it was an iPhone!!!

Simply put if Apple is going to patent EVERYTHING then at least Apple.......innovate and improve them.....THAT is why people choose another make.....your devices have become boring!!

Oh....one more thing.....there was a story on MR regarding a 7" iPad and how one of Apple's execs had sent an email saying that they had seen and used a 7" tablet and said "it was good.......we should make one" Is that not simplified stealing of ideas?? I do wonder if Apple will patent a 7" Tablet now if Samsung haven't!!

Pinch to zoom patent?

Are you freaking kidding me?

You mean the gesture that was around for 40 years and then patented by Apple?

I am disgusted both with Apple and the American jurisdictional system.

Pathetic.

Because screwing the parts together is totally on the same level as coming up with the product, designing it, programming the software, engineering the hardware, and solving all the technical challenges.

Those are shocking. I haven't followed it that closely, but did Samsung really try to argue that those specific examples didn't involve copying?

Yet Samsung's lawyers were unable to prove prior art which should have been very easy if it was around for 40 years before.

I don't think you get AT ALL the point I am trying to make. There is something called trade dress. It is how your product LOOKS. Imagine if I make a phone using the exact same colors and centered glyph for icons like yours. And you look at the too products a meter away, what will you think? It has little to do with innovation. Samsung are clearly trying very hard to make their products LOOK LIKE APPLE. They did that all the way down to the packaging, cables, adaptors. It is only a step away from making a fake rolex.

Stripes or no stripes doesn't matter. Why would Samsung make their phone icon GREEN, with a white phone glyph in the middle? That's the question. Think about it.
