I've accidentally purchased an app before. I was looking for an app I already owned on the App Store on my iPhone and I found an app with a very similar name and I thought it was the one I already paid for (I was just going to re-download it for free) and I bought a different app with a very similar name and purpose.

wow calm down guys. there's no way steve jobs reads hundreds if not thousands of emails a day. there's definitely a team of customer service representatives and they're like whatever.

A few things to clear up here. When browsing iTunes on your computer and not your iPhone, there are scenarios where you can purchase an app simply by clicking the buy button once and nothing else whatsoever. Secondly, I only emailed sjobs@apple.com, an email known to be higher end customer support because I looked around for some iTunes support and didn't find any and we all know calling the Apple support line would have been useless.

i think there should be some extra confirmation if u are buying a paid app. like a popup things that says: "do you really want to purchase this app for $5.99?"

There is, but I somehow disabled it by disabling an unrelated warning that has nothing to do with paying money.

actually mispurchases with itunes are usually resolved very, very well with apples itunes website.

no offense, but i think emailing SJobs was a mistake.
not only was it not the right way to resolve the issue, but if we use that for every single problem, it will become less and less effective overtime.

umm

ugh, you people are so inconsiderate,

i accidentally bought an App last week, i thought it was an one i had already purchased, and was just redownloading it to my phone, i told this to apple, using the above method (clicking Report a Problem through iTunes store)
they nicely gave me a refund

read what you said, you didn't really accidentally buy the app. you were interested in the app thought you had it couldn't find it on the phone and decided to buy it. maybe thinking already had it. but after buying it you decided you didn't like the app (Hence you accidentally buying it!

and too op going into your account reset all warrings buying and downloading music.

I even enter a password too buy a free App! ;) just safer takes what a second!

To prevent that, enable the use of the shopping cart. Apps can't be bought in a shopping cart, so a pop up tells you that in which you have to click "Buy" on that message to buy it.

that's my failsafe... although it does irk me that i can' put apps that i'm thinking about in a shopping card  so that when i find something i might be interested in.... i can keep in handy....

I emailed sjobs@apple.com. will that do?

You'll be flagged and your IP banned... but if you want, go ahead ;) It won't get you anywhere.

Email iTunes and let them know it was an accidental purchase. They are supposed to refund those (provided you don't do this sort of thing all the time.. they do catch on to that). I used to work in iTunes/iPhone support. They can refund you, and if the rep refuses, write in again.

no this can happen easily
I once bought one of those rubix cube solvers for $.99
Then I found out my mom gave away our cube, so I deleted it

then, a few months later, I was at a buddies house and saw that he had a rubix cube, so I went to redownload the app, thinking I might as well get some use out of it, and found that in those few months, several more similar apps had appeared. I had to think hard to try and remember which was the one I paid for

I can see how you could accidentally download an app thinking you already had it, since theres so many NEARLY IDENTICAL apps in the store. This has always bothered me.

No that is not what happened at all. I was browsing iTunes on my computer and I pressed buy by accident and there was absolutely no warning, which is absurd.

What's absurd is you complaining about this. If you don't want the instant buy option, then you should not have disabled the "Are you sure you want to buy" option some time back (whenever you changed it). It's that simple.

I use the password entry as a count to 10

If I want a app or accidentally click on the BIN  then I have to select yes I want it and confirm with my password I have changed my mind many times and even on free apps!

dccorona all you had to do was check your Itunes latter it would have told you if you bought the app.t. So apple should have a similar app warning weird. I waiting for the hold your hand app. or the I'm your mommy app! it's all just common sense and I am not going to say I haven't messed up too but I just said oh well and decided not to bother Steve Jobs about it! like others said not that it won't be answered buy somebody else. let us know if it's signed by Steve!

and developers here ya go apparently they want I bought App the App simply list all the apps you bought!

The only way you wouldn't be asked to purchase the App (or anything else) is if you have the "Remember password for purchasing" option checked. I JUST tried this.

I have the warning for downloading free updates off and "Buy and download using 1-Click" checked, but I have the "Remember password for purchasing" option disabled. When I tried to test on a $4.99 app it popped up the display for me to enter my password and continue downloading it, or cancel.

When I disabled that question and then tried again, it did as you said yours did, download without needing confirmation. So, it seems as though having the "Remember password for purchasing" is the only thing that would remove the warning from popping up.

If you have a Mac then check your Keychain and see if it lists "iTunes Store password" under 'Kind'. If so, then you have clicked the box for it to remember the password.

And oh, for people wondering, it was an app I wanted so it's not like I just wasted the money on a worthless app I didn't want.

ttech10,

Thank you for demonstrating this for everyone.

OP, if you can't handle your $6 mistake, send me your PayPal address and I'll give you 6 bucks. Seriously...
