Certainly not iPads IMO coz Apple doesn't let them out of their cages till 03 April. Guy said the box had a "do not open till 23 March" sticker.

unless it's a bunch of signage/display stuff and maybe a small number of ipads for training purposes. But i'm hopeful that it's MBPs. **** the ipad.

got the same 'do not open until Mar 23rd' security label?

I don't know. My dad just saw them he's not delivering them today. They were wrapped in the same black though.
Dude, whatever you do, make sure you don't do anything that would cause your dad to lose his job.

I haven't given near enough info to identify my father :).
I think it would be iPads, as Apple wouldnt hesitate to release a new MBP.

Although it seems unlike Apple to ship them so early, your dad, or a best buy employee, could just take the package and be a very rich man.

On trucks there is a seal that cannot be opened on the trailer, you have to cut it, leaving clear evidence, each seal has a certain # on it (my dad told me the name of it awhile ago but I don't remember) so you can't just replace the seal either. I assume Best Buy would have the box monitored.

These skids weigh over 500 pounds! I doubt it is just a few iPads. I assume MacBook Pros at this point, and I feel the same way as you on the iPad. I will probably get one when I sell my 3gS but it won't change my life.

Don't know if you read it recently but the New York Times has one iPad unit at their HQ (I think for app development purposes) - it is kept under padlock under ultra-high security, away from even the top ranking board members and chairmen and verified physically by an Apple employee at the end of every day.

This is how serious Apple is about one single unit of an unreleased product, and here we are imagining them sending a whole 500 lbs box of goodies to some Best Buy store with just a black cover and "don't open it" sticker on it.

If anyone at Apple really reads these I'm pretty certain they'd be laughing at us.

I hope once Steve Jobs dies, they will take away this whole non sense about secrecy and crap. What stupid idea it is... leaving consumers frustrated, annoyed and confused...

i agree. Why would they risk someone opening the box and taking whatever is inside? How long did the Best Buy have to wait to open the box? 2 weeks? Its like Christmas time. Parents don't give their child a present and tell them to hold on to it for 2 weeks before opening it...

Best Buy is a business, if they open something that Apple told them not to, Apple would be less optimistic to do business with them again. Still I really don't think it's iPads, though promotional material is an interesting theory.

I know Best Buy has rules that it needs to uphold if it gets a package like this but people are people. If someone that worked at Best Buy, didn't care much for the company, and really wanted to know what was in that box; I don't find it hard to believe someone wouldn't open it unless it was in a secure location... It would be awesome if it was some mbps but I don't see them coming out with them until a few weeks after the iPad launch.

ps. i think the promotional material theory is the best

lolwut

As far as the average joe is concerned, the Macbook Pro isn't going to be updated until it's updated. The only ones who have any inkling that they are going to be updated are the ones who A) came here and said "i'm going to buy one today, is there a new one coming out" or the ones who B) troll the Buyer's Guide here @ MR, which probably accounts for less than 1% of the current Macbook buying population.

Apple's secrecy is why we like them (rather or not you choose to believe it). If Apple were like "In 3 weeks there will be a MacBook Pro release so hold off with your purchases" you would not visit sites like MacRumors, would not be surprised by Apple's keynotes, Apple would not be covered near as much by the media, and there would be no mystery and coolness to the company. Half the fun of being an Apple watcher is wondering what they will do next, and trying to figure it out.

May be 2000 USD is fun and joke to you but trust me other 99% of the people its their hard earned money. It will be interesting to see how long apple can keep this up before people just say F**k it.. and move on.

Today as I drove by my local shopping area and parked my car, I saw two people walking out the :apple: store with the 13 inch macbook pro + printer combo, so apparently they are still selling like hotcakes.

Your right there is a seal placed on the truck with a specific number. This seal is placed on the truck immediately at the station in front of others.

I do this daily at work

This is atypical at best. I used to work at best buy myself, and this would have never happened there. And on top of that, ringing something like that up ahead of the street date will result on a price tag of $10,000 in the POS system.

I don't even see what this has to do with what I said but for the record I am old enough to, and do have a job. I bought my mac on slightly over minimum wage, it took a loooong time.

I can understand your 'annoyance' and 'confusion', as a consumer you're not
accustomed to this secrecy.
You're also not accustomed to the evolutionary AND revolutionary Apple products.
Get used to it, or move on,
believe me there's nothing to 'see' here, we only deal with Mac Rumors. :D

Unless you'd like to contribute?

You seem piqued?

You can make your own decisions?

Just say F**k it and move on.

Enjoy :)

Promotional gear seems to be the general consensus and if it is about the iPad that'd be the stuff to get up before April 3rd?

BTW Kudos on you signature, I saw it last year and meant to congratulate you then.

Enjoy the next 3 weeks - hehe :apple: :D :apple: :D :apple: :D

I had to abbreviate the heck out of my signature to get it to fit. It sounded much better full, but I seemed to have forgot the whole thing since then.

Do you guys want some pictures of the palettes? It is possible that I Might be able to get a few quick ones, if they come back through again. I was able to talk to my dad again, and he says that if he gets the freight again there would be ample opportunities of him to take pictures of these mysterious packages.
