Apparently YouTube 4K is a go, no HDR though.

Edit: They lied

I’m seeing a few people on Twitter and Reddit saying 4K is working but I’m also 1080p max here and I’m on tvOS 14.2.

Perhaps YouTube is staggering the release and not enabling it immediately for everyone.

Edit: Or perhaps a YouTube premium feature?

I have YouTube premium and no 4k on any of my ATVs yet

I tired this morning, still 1080P maximum. They all copying this news even Mac Rumors with really validating it.

I used the same 14.2 beta 18K5036d, with 2.05.01 Youtube as that reddit discussion.

4K appearing for me on AppleTV now but no HDR support which sucks. Videos also capped at 30fps.... Talk about a half-assed implementation

I'm able to play 4k on one TV consistently but my other TV with an ATV4K still won't play any YouTube videos in 4K. Very Strange.

I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve deleted and installed again and I’ve still got no 4K either, with all this deleting a redownloading YouTube is now the No1 top free app

Today, here where I live in Canada 4K video is finally available on Youtube. Looks great. Nice to see 4K video's popping up here and there as they look great. Glad I purchased the 4K TV a few years ago. Now its finally getting used. Yay! :)

It's nice that Google trying to PO Apple user base. They probably thinking we get tired and go buy Google TV dongle instead. 🤣

If you still don’t get 4k from YT, try reseting the app. Open YT and go to settings and then Reset.

After deleting and reinstalling the app 10x, I tried this based on what I read on Reddit, and it worked.

I hope this helps someone.

Update.....
It only works if you don't close the app. After i close the app, and start it back up, no more 4K. I have to reset the app, and then it works, until I get out of the app. Then it's back to HD only. So I have to reset the app every time I want to watch 4K on the app.

I tried that and it didn't work. After i did that, I deleted app and reinstalled it, and now getting 4K via the app.
