i rather not right now..not until i hear from the seller

Try to return the computer. The warranty is more than likely void. They will blame the damage for every issue with the computer.

yes...you guys are right...im waiting for the seller. he owns a shop here locally. i emailed him on ebay and his work email. if i dont hear from him tomorrow i will call him up. it was shipped from somewhere else and not from his shop. i know this since i called him up to see if i can pick it up instead of shipment.

Looks like the seller pulled a fast one on you. Hope you can get something back through eBay/Paypal or your CC.

If you paid with paypal you should have no problem getting your money back as they are usually on the buyers side.:D

holy eff i think the seller misconstrued the definition of "light cosmetic" damages :(

Why 'd you buy it without seeing some detailed pics of the damage on e-Bay? That way he'd have had to inform you beforehand or you'd have had a stronger case for launching a dispute. 'Light cosmetic' damage is very ambiguous although I agree that this computer looks like it was tied behind a car and dragged around the block.

Anyway, I'd never buy electronics off e-bay.

That's NOT cosmetic damage. If that's what was claimed in the ebay auction, it was misleading. The ethernet port is warped, and is NONFUNCTIONAL. This is functional damage. I would immediately notify the seller of this misrepresentation, and ask for a full refund.

I have to ask, were pictures posted in the auction? Sounds like they were, with no pictures of the damage. This is deceptive, and ebay should be contacted as well. Simply send them your pics plus the item number. They'll put some pressure on the seller to remedy this as well.

Yeah, that's "street damage". One of two things happened.

- they left it on the roof of a car and drove off. It fell in the street.
- they were running and it fell.

Either way, it's damage from having fallen in a street somewhere at a decent velocity. Landed hard enough that it shocked the entire housing. Gotta give credit to the build quality of the screen though as I doubt they would replace that and nothing else. Possible, I suppose.

Anyway, you got taken dude. Fortunately, if the auction has closed, they can't edit it. If they did NOT have pictures fully disclosing the extent of the damage, you have an easy case through Buyer Protection. But don't procrastinate; get it done.

That's horrific, and most certainly not minor cosmetic damage. Please don't let him/her get away with that. Give him time to respond, then file a dispute if he doesn't agree to a refund.

That's a actually what the protection is in place for.

Wow the seller is a jerk. Minor?!?! Talk about unusable. I wouldn't use a laptop like that.

File a dispute with Paypal/Ebay. Get your money back and send that thing back with EVEN MORE dents. Show that seller whos boss.

anyone want to buy it for what i paid shipped for it? $700

a refurbed mbp of same specs is $929.00

i requested a quote from a few local shops its its too much ill just throw it back on ebay

I rather pay the extra $229 for a refurbished one that looks like new, functions like new, and has a warranty like a new product.

on the auction no pictures of minor flaws were shown. just a picture of the screen/keyboard area. What are my next steps if the seller wont give me a refund? do i go through ebay or paypal to file a dispute?

so i got this macbook pro on ebay stating it has "minor cosmetic" issues. so i think its just a scratch or scratches....when i opened it the casing is all dented/warped and the top where the LCD is is dented in on one of the corners. i dont think applecare covers such things since looks like it has been dropped. but i bought it knowing it has super drive issues. now if i send it in for the super drive will they just fix the super drive or also change the casing? it does still have the initial one year and can upgrade apple care until sept. i was also thinking about looking for a new shell/casing on ebay but i noticed the bottom has the SN# engraved on the bottom. so im not sure if i can change that without affecting the warranty.

I bought a used MBP 15" a few weeks back (specs in sig) on eBay and, boy, would I have been pissed if it had looked like that when I got it. Along with some other people here, I recommend you go through eBay (or Paypal) Buyer protection. The only problem you may have is if the seller had pix on the listing that detailed the extent of the damage, then you may have no recourse.

Minor cosmetic damage !?!!? This is a major casing damage. I would also return it. It visibly was dropped on the floor so you don't know what kind of failures you will get in the future that might have been caused by the fall.

He only has one pic posted

Looks like this is the auction link.

Single picture, and you can barely see the distortion in the case above the ethernet port.

IMHO, that's a very deceptive auction description. The seller spends more time telling you to "ask questions" and "all sales are final" than giving an accurate description. I'm sorry, but there's no excuse not to disclose the damage on this item. No brainer to return this and contact ebay.

Make sure to file a complaint/dispute with both ebay and paypal. And you should inform the seller you intend to leave negative feedback as well as file a dispute. I would file the dispute as soon as possible as the seller may try to remove all funds from their paypal account in the hopes of not returning your money.

When filing a dispute, you should definitely file under item not as described.

This is from the ebay auction
The item may have some signs of cosmetic wear, but is fully operational and functions as intended. This item may be a floor model or store return that has been used. See the seller’s listing for full details and description of any imperfections.

This seems to suggest that the macbook was a return or floor model. There is no way any store would accept that as a return nor is there any way a store would put this on display.

Are you KIDDING?!

That's absolutely ridiculous.

File a complaint with eBay, Paypal, and your credit card company (if you used one).

That is hardly cosmetic damage. From the looks of it, the ethernet port looks busted up. With damage like that, I wouldn't be surprised if there are internal issues.

These days, eBay and Paypal will almost 100% support a buyer if there are problems like that. I guarantee that you'll get a full refund.

As someone previously stated, you can get a refurb 13" mbp for $929. That's less than this will cost you with all of the repairs it will need.

Edit: If you think this is ok and take a loss when you put it back on eBay, you fully deserve it.
