yes I just got a 32 GB AT&T iPad off craigslist for 400 bucks. would have bought the guy out if I could. Asian dude said they had a ton in the back of the thousands oaks location so they jacked like 6 (said they took extras home but let's be real here)

I'm in love with it as its my first apple product. (I come from Android)

Apple is so fluid its just crazy and I don't think anything beasts the iTunes ecosystem.

No one's mad you got a good deal, just a very skeptical deal....and if I was selling you a stolen iPad, I would say the same thing...do you believe everything a stranger tells you.

I'm not sure if Apple does this, but say the serial number had been registered to someone already, and is reported stolen, would Apple prevent the device from being activated?

He said he received it as a gift when he already had one. I believe him cause if he returned it, the money would go back to the original card and not him.

geez. why is everyone so mad i got a good deal :(

Relax, nobody's mad. We just have doubts, that's all.

And when you return a gift, the refund doesn't necessarily go back on the buyer's credit card. More often than not the gift recipient gets store credit or a gift card. That makes more sense. If I blew $500 on a gift to someone who decided he didn't want it, I'd be pissed that he turned around and unloaded it for cash, and for much less than what I paid for it.

Great. So you're admitting you bought stolen goods.

Post has been quoted in case the authorities in Thousand Oaks start sniffing around.

Selling a gift way under the value to get cash? That's just an odd move. Gifts or any purchase can always be returned to store credit. Selling that store credit card for a lower value would be better or putting it on a much higher value.

He prob got a legit deal. I needed a unlocked iPhone and I looked on Craigslist. I was able to get a brand new one, with an apple receipt for $100 less. The guy paid for it with a bunch of prepaid gift cards (MasterCard kind) and said he needed cash. I don't know how he got the cards but it's a legit sale.

People know apple stuff sells so if anyone is going to deal with converting gift cards to cash will look into apple products.

I bought a macbook a couple of months ago for $350 on ebay. Did not really used it much and decided to trade it in to Best Buy for a $560 Gift Card and bought my new ipad with it. So about $350 for a new ipad, I think its a decent deal. So yes the deals are out their.

It ain't that it's just that if a deal is too good to be true it usually is. Happy you got a deal but it's most likely stolen. That dudes story doesn't make sense.

Internet police

Lol. Yeah. The precinct has a dozen men on it right now down at the crime lab. They're working in shifts!

Puleeze like theyre spread so thin as it is. If it was taken, that sucks. I wouldn't knowingily buy it.

But the FedEx drivers and such that claim they have been "held up" and "taken off the truck" all over the US. Remember a lot of drivers own their own truck and work as contractors for FedEx. And FedEx has insurance.
:p

If this really happened which I highly doubt why is this guy coming on here to gloat that he got a deal. What a waste of time.

wtf. no need to be bitter. im just excited to get an ipad. im sure you have never made a thread or post that wasnt a "waste of time" right? get real dude. don't be a dick.

Well, I for one will say maybe you got a deal. Good for you and congratulations.

For those naysayers, yeah, maybe it does seem odd and most likely fake, but you never know what is going through some one's head. Seller may have been being stupid or just wanted to sell it quickly and not bother with the hassle and since he got it free didn't care he was losing value. Maybe he makes enough money the loss of value he could get out of the ipad was not worth the hassle of finding a buyer rather than just finding whoever would take it quickest.

But, sometimes people do get a good deal.

Great deal man. Congats. I've gotten many crazy deals on craigslist and local classifieds as well. :D

True, but there's more potential downside than upside. If the OP's deal is legit, great - he got a fantastic deal. If it turns out to be stolen and law enforcement takes it back, he'll be out $390. It shouldn't be difficult for a LEO to find out.

This is possible. No one knows for sure what is true. Someone just told me yesterday they got an iPad for free from a friend bc they owed them. So maybe the guy really did have an extra one and didn't care about making an extra $100.

Nobody is "mad". It's just that you're story raises enough flags that it should be understandable that there's doubt.

- Craigslist is notorious for scams and peddling stolen goods
- Your initial "proof" was mentioning the wallpaper
- Legit returns can always have gift cards as an option
- What gift giver would be okay that his "friend" sold it at a $160 loss
- What gift receiver would sell at a high loss rather than exchange for equal value
- An Unopened and heavily discounted transaction wreaks of theft

If you got a good deal then that's great... For you. But most likely somebody in this scenario got burned and it probably wasn't either the seller or the buyer.
