How does Apple provide the software for installing Itunes? Is it on the iPod itself or what? There's no way a CD-ROM comes in that packaga, is there?

Nope, step 1 in the instructions is "download and install iTunes from <some url>" Kind of a bold step by Apple, selling hardware with no software--although they would probably mail you a CD if needed. Well, Apple is nothing if not a little bold at times....;)

I could totally download, but that's b/c I've got an internet connection. Others, though, may not...

phew.. i was only asking cos iLoungee have stated that:

"Search does not appear to be available on the old 5G or nano"

.. and to my understanding from Steve's keynote, is that the new nano's and updated 5G's would have the SAME SOFTWARE (ie, search etc..)

so thanks for confirming that the new nano DOES have it :)

I am receiving mine tomorrow!! :)

My order has been placed just now!

I was wondering if anyone who has the new nano knows if it works in the nike+ armband okay :) . I'm sure it will do, but just wondering if there was proof...

Can I return a product purchased online to a store?

So my local apple store has the new nano, and my nano hasn't even SHIPPED yet! I'm gonna go down and pick one up. Can I return the one from online to an apple store?

EDIT: Sweet, I am now a macrumors "member"!!one!!eleven11!

no they dont unfortunatly I tried it, the 1g nanos do not have gapless

Mine does, it's handled in iTunes. Just select an album on your iPod, right click and Get Info then select the Gapless Album option. iTunes will update the music on the nano and it will be gapless.

I'm sure i'm being a bit silly and should probably go and read this somewhere, but what is gapless playback?

Say you have a group of songs from a concert, and or live performance.

The iPod and iTunes will now play those songs back to back without stopping or any pause between between songs.

On topic :)

Just got my Nano today too :) Silver 2gb :)

did you get this instore or from ordering, I called a local store and they said they don't have any yet. Otherwise i would have started this thread.

Can you please tell me what firmware version is on the new nano and if it has gapless playback?

I am still waiting for an update for the 1st gen nano for gapless playback

Handled through iTunes. Just updated songs on my 1GB nano and iTunes is now analyzing songs for gapless playback.

can anybody confirm the material used is just like the iPod Mini?

I have refused to give up my Mini for the simple reason that it's scratch resistant aluminum and that it's ONE piece of metal. is the new Nano as solid as the Mini? no creaking or flimsiness?

It's all done via iTunes now. DL iTunes from Apple and the ipod updated software is accessed via itunes. You just plug in your ipod and it will tell you right away if it is up to date. No more hassles w separate dl's

Walked in and bought it, and bought it. All of the Minnesota Apple Stores currently have the new iPod Nano, but not the 5.5g yet.

I just wish my 5g had the search function that my new Nano has. It would be MUCH more useful on my 30gb ipod as opposed to my 2gb! :(

It's like the mini, but I feel like it's a little smoother... maybe I'm just making that up but I'm holding my brother's old mini and this in hand and this feels a little silkier. All one piece... done beautifully.

Looks very nice, wish the 8gb was available in the different colors. Think I'll order on when Amazon gets them, my old 2nd iPod just died last week.

man, i want that 8GB one though, i've been ipod-less for a couple months now, and i don't think i can take it much longer!!!

You "walked in and bought it, and bought it."? *L* So you bought 2 of them or bought the same one twice? Sorry I thought it was pretty funny.

New Nano

I must say that I'd be extremely annoyed if I had gotten rid of a Mini for the 1g Nano, only for Apple to revert to the Mini design for the 2g:D

The aesthetics are interesting. On its own, I'm not wild about the "new" style of the Nano, however in pictures where both the 1g and 2g sit side-by-side, I much prefer the design of the 2g. I looks considerably more durable too!

I can hardly wait for my black one to arrive!

I ordered my 4Gb Silver nano on Tuesday and it arrived today!

Looks much better in real life than it does on the net. Also the new headphones in my oppinion sound much much better!
