Just looked at the new Mac Book Pro

Personally I think the new Macs are as sturdy as ever, the unibody is the single best innovation on a laptop of the past 10 years in my opinion. At a local PC store, I saw many laptops for well over £1000 ($1,200) that when I pushed a key down the plastic frame surround sank into the base... Having seriously considered Windows machines again lately, I was put off spectacularly to find that in the past decade Windows laptops have not met the build quality of even the old 2008 first unibody Macs.. Other than the Surface, I can't see any other worthy products. I don't claim to have looked at them all, but all of the ones most people will buy (in big box stores like I was in) are trash build quality.

I think you can download ALL old software now online one way or another, no point having a CD drive around even for 100 installs then not using it at all for the number of years ahead. Unless you burn CDs, watch DVDs etc etc - which is redundant today with Netflix and in-car Bluetooth connections etc then I don't think anyone in the right mind would miss it.

I have to laugh at how many people on here use the term 'bait post' or 'troll post'... Hahaha Just because you disagree with someone - like I disagree with the OP here - doesn't merit such a low IQ response! Please, keep the forum respectable and reduce finger pointing with 'bait post' accusal etc haha

Couldn't disagree more with everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) the OP has said. This post reeks of I hate it because I don't like the prices. Which I understand to some extent.

I think this is the best chassis and build of any MBP ever. Couldn't be happier with my machine. Waaaaaaay better than everything it replaced.

My Cuz's grand daughter in Calif went with a MS Surface and she could not be more happy with it. Seems MS has now got the Surface right.
[doublepost=1484601563][/doublepost]This is my old Mac Book Pro bought in 2011 and still going strong, maybe it's not as quick or as powerful as the new MBP, but fast enough and powerful enough for my needs.

Can the 2011 Macbook Pro play 1080p YouTube videos at 60fps?

I'm considering buying a used one off craigslist.

Seriously - Every time I'm at Best Buy I glance at the latest "high end windows machines" - They're basically all crap build quality/fit & finish, etc.

I'm sure there's some obscure model here and there or some BTO Lenovo that's "better", but none of them touch MB/MBP build quality. It's not even close...

Yes, correct, I completely agree with you. I own a Lenovo 900 (for my kids) and it's probably one of the best alternative laptops to a Mac. It's complete crap by comparison.

There sure has been a lot of changes made to this Mac and a lot of them i sure dislike, It's not the real solid build as my older Mac Book Pro and i don't like needing an external CD drive to load old programs.
and the removing of all the input out put slots in the body is just a mistake IMHO.
There asking a lot mote money and giving us less in quality and a lot less in the Mac's build.

Do you actually have a question? Or perhaps even a coherent thought? Or do you just like to whine to get attention?

I just upgraded my trusty late '12 retina MacBook Pro to the new MBP with a Touch Bar and the build quality is AT LEAST the same if not better, in my opinion.

One thing this ignores are people who still purchase CDs for listening instead of streaming. Or software that is better purchased on media, such as Turbo Tax. I can get a good price for TT at CostCo rather than off Intuit's site.

But I can give up the super drive and use a USB version. What gets me is having to buy anything to connect my 3 USB3 drives in. Even a single USB3 port would be very helpful.

Yes a 2011 MBP should handle it just fine. I have a 2010 MBP that my wife uses and it still works perfectly fine with "regular" applications. The component I highly recommend upgrading if it isn't already is the HDD to a SSD. It makes the computer feel 10x faster.

iTunes Match or Amazon's Music Services which allow you to migrate your CD collection exist to overcome these otherwise obstacles.

Any argument against using such a service is as ridiculous as someone saying "Oh I had a collection of Floppy Disks" etc and demanding Apple fit a floppy drive in 2016.

Plus.. at least here in the UK, half of our good CD selling stores like HMV and Virgin Megastores have vanished. It's sad, but it's happening. There are options to overcome it, if you'd rather not, fair enough, but don't expect one of the biggest companies in the world to hold back on their visions because 1% of the users refuse to move forward.

Sorry if that sounds rude, it's not meant to be, and No, I don't think I know better etc. But that's certainly how I see it.
I will admit, I miss my CD collection and ripping it onto iTunes each week, but it would be silly for me to continue to do that these days.

So your 2010 MBP plays 1080p YouTube videos are 60fps like the one I quoted?

I actually went a better route. I purchased a Samsung Blu-ray external writer that covers all formats. For me much better and cheaper then a super drive as it will also write Blu-ray. Just change the cable out "USB-C to USB mini A" and you are all set. Blu-ray cost me $92, however I did not get the cable as I use my USB-C hub. Added bonus is I can watch Blu-ray disks

Yesterday, I tried the new mbp at the Apple store. I don't mind the usb-c ports and I would get used to the keyboard. The touchbar was nice but I had a hard time not touching the display. Whenever I used that touchbar, I was touching the screen the second after. It`s weird, I never done that with my current mbp!

I ordered but cancelled after hearing about some of the problems.

I did go the MS Store and looked at the top of the line Surface book with 512ssd and performance base and WOW!

The screen was fantastic and it was really fast. Buttery smooth even on complicated web pages. I am thinking it could be for me!

Wait for the upgrade. USB C is a terrific technology and the Surfacebook is even more expensive than a comparable MacBook Pro. You'll want the latest and greatest if you're spending that much money. I'm happy with my new MacBook Pro, but I'd be equally happy with a Surfacebook if it had USB C.

There is plenty of time for USB-C. I will not miss it in the least.

God we all have choice.

Maybe not so much more expensive?

i7, 256, 8Gb & dGPU Surface Book = $2056
i7, 256, 8Gb non Touch Bar 13" MBP = $1995

Unless your locked into OS X the Surface Book clearly represents much better value; 2 in 1 form factor, Pen & Touch input and dGPU, for the pricey sum of $61 more, equally if you have no need of the same irrelevant...

Only if you like or want a touchscreen and tablet mode and need a very mediocre dGPU for casual gaming otherwise the MacBook is better in every respect.

Why some can't get that others have differing needs is beyond me. I can assure you if the 2016 was a better option for my usage I would be responding on one now, and likely own both 13" & 15" high tier models as I have done in the past. For my needs the MacBook is not better in every respect.

Surface Book has other attributes that attract, equally no point to elaborate here as the only spin will be negative o_O
