I ordered the 22nd, so I've obviously got some time to wait. But I spoke to a very helpful and understanding rep today. She said that it wasn't listed "backordered" because it wasn't really backordered - that they had phones and that they were begin shipped out from centers as soon as they arrived. So the actual shipment center might have none on hand, but that shipments to those centers were in progress... who knows exacly what that means.

Just ordered from ATT 6/20/09, what was the overall delivery time?

Actually mine came up an hour after I ordered mine at the AT&T store but to check online you must enter the zip code of the store not your home zip code.

Yes, I don't think the automated system has any info the website doesn't. And the rep seemed to be looking at the same screen I was as well. I think we'll just have to be patient - that's what we get for waiting under the days right after the launch to order I guess.
I did the Bing deal too. Ordered my iPhone Tuesday night. The order status yesterday said backordered. Today the backorder is gone and is on order. I also got my Bing cashback email saying I earned $104.65 and that it can be requested in 58 days. Can't wait to get it.
My order from the 18th came to me today and I had to deny it
. Whatever, I saved 200 bucks Now my order from the 22nd is still backordered, but hopefully it will get sent out today. Yesterday, my 18th order went from 1 backordered to 0 around 1ish. Then by 3ish, it gave me the tracking number.
Ordered from ATT online on the 17th - the website still says "in progress", but a CS representative has told me they're actually backordered and they can't say when they'll be shipped, except that it's going in the order that orders were received. Pretty rubbish!
Yeah, that's what I suspected. But if you read this thread, orders made as late as the 20th have shipped already, so it doesn't make sense why your order on the 17th would still be 'in progress'.
anyone make that site that they had last year that you could check how many people are in front of you in the iphone line type thing?
Absolutely. The one thing I'm wondering is whether the fact that this is an upgrade (from iPhone 2G) means they're giving it a lower priority than getting new customers in. I've half a mind to phone back and speak to a supervisor, as it's clearly not true that they're shipping first-come first-served.

I did direct fulfillment as well to my local AT&T store and placed my order Monday 06/22 at 11:00 AM. My status still says In Progress..
Yea,I just called a local store in Maple Grove MN and they said if I order there it will come faster than shipping home.
Well I live in PA and traveling home tomorrow.
So I couldn't do that.
But I do think it's BS.
Anyway, I think the orders are filled as they come.
Apple stores probably 1st precedence.

I thought about that as well, but I decided it wasn't worth 35% off. That's a nice dinner out or slick accessory, etc... so I'll just be patient.
Question: My order page updated to Various SIM shipped. It's due here tomorrow at 3 pm. But the order page doesn't show my phone or the frieght like it previously did when it said in process. Looking at FedEx's site for my shipment it shows the package weighing in at 1 lb. 5 oz. Is it safe to assume that it's my phone as well? Certainly they wouldn't just ship me the sim

I wouldn't be surprised if they shipped just the at&t plastic bag in your first shipment..... last time I ordered the original iphone (that too a refurb)... the order detail showed one phone and 1 iphone bag (the white and orange at&t plastic bag), and they really shipped the bag nicely folded in the carton
This time too, I got an email saying part of my order shipped today (will be delivered tomorrow) and the remaining backorder items will be shipped as soon as they are available..... I ordered on 21st...
Hopy my local apple store which is opening after being closed for the past 25 days (being renovated) will have some in stock, so I can pick it up instead of waiting on this one.
