What. A. Machine. Wow. I traded my late 2013 13" MacBook Pro for this. I mainly use this for watching videos/sports, surfing the web and writing emails. The speed is unbelievable and the weight is wonderful.

Anyone else change from a MBP to MacBook Air?

Me too. Been having hardware issues like Wifi issues during setup. I rebooted twice. It's on Big Sur 11.5.1. Currently upgrading to macOS Monterey to hopefully resolve?

I just started the download for Monterey. Haven't had any issues though during setup or initial use.

I just picked one up from Best Buy to try out. I'm having WiFi issues too. I'm trying to decide if I want to get another Mac or stick with my PC. I have a new iPad Pro after trading in my old iPad Pro.
This Air kind of seems like redundancy with my iPad.

Im looking for a mbp 2013 instead of a new macbook air m1pro
Mainly because of the os big sur and monterey.

I installed macOS Monterey and it was stable for the brief time I was on it. I’ll report back when I get back home and kick the tires. If it remains unstable, I’ll return it and try a M1 again in a few years.

Also, this Wi-Fi and other issues like Bluetooth are known and have occurred right after the initial launch. I thought Big Sur 11.2 resolved all those issues.

I was very undecided between the iPad Pro and the Air. I ended up going with the air.

My new iPad Pro works much better than this M1 Air in my opinion. I'm going to keep this Air for the tryout period but will probably take it back.
I'm downloading Monterey to see if that solves some of the problems.

Very well could be. I'm stuck with an old DSL line so my speeds are inconsistent. Still waiting for my Starlink to arrive. When you live in the sticks you take what you can get.

I'm rocking 1 Gigabit connection. The issues are real but I think it is software related. macOS Big Sur is the first OS they made for M1. They needed some time to iron out the issues. I'm thinking macOS Monterey had a lot more time to bake.

DO you have thew 12.9 with the magic keyboard?

So I been playing on the Air for a few hours with Monterey installed and it looks like the issues have been resolved.
Great. I still have a few more hours before download is complete. I'm having a problem with half my contacts missing and messages not working correctly. Hopefully that gets resolved too.

I went from an 2018 13" MacBook Pro to the M1 MacBook Air. Night and day better. The keyboard on the 2018 MBP was pretty bad, I found the TouchBar mostly useless but I could live with it, and the performance was just ok. The only real advantage over the M1 MBA was the ability to have more than 1 external monitor. I bought a 24" 4K monitor though which is adequate.

Interesting. I stopped using my 2020 11" iPad Pro once I bought the M1 MBA. I guess it depends on what you need the computer for. I just gave up on getting real productivity out the iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard. I switched to using iPad mini 6 for my tablet use. It has about 90% of the functionality of the iPad Pro but is more portable.

What are you rocking over there? A 1200 Baud modem?
ATT DSL 6Mbs more like 3 on a good day....lol.
Just noticed the download failed and will take 3 more hours this morning.
I have had a deposit on Starlink since February but haven't got billed for the full kit. Seems to still be in Beta.

The M1 MBA is a great machine. And in my opinion, is highly underrated (as a whole) on this forum.
I bought the Air half a year before the M1's came out. Intel i5 early-2020 MBA (I replaced a 15" late-2013 MBP after I cracked the screen!) and it's also a great machine.

It sometimes maxes out the fans (mainly WebEx and full-screen videos in Firefox; Safari is fine) but rarely throttles. Light, portable, good battery life. I was thinking about getting the 14" MBP as my partner's 11" 2010 MBA needs my hand-me-down, but I've decided to wait and see what next year's Air is like.

I'm actually waiting for the new one too but I wanted to tryout the M1 and see how it worked with Mac OS. I'll wait for our sales tax holiday which is around the time Apple offers the educational discount and perks and hopefully the new Air will be here by then.

I also went from a late 2013 13” MBPr to an M1 Air last week. I got the base configuration and it’s a night and day difference compared to the MBP. Even apps running non-natively are much quicker and responsive. The battery life is also insane.

I only use it for basic browsing, some chatting (discord) and some other pretty basic programs so I saw no reason in getting the new 14”/16” MBP. Back in 2013 when I got my MBP, the decision was a lot easier considering the air was pretty bad and used that awful TN panel. This new Air has a better screen than my old MBP, so all around fantastic upgrade. Also $1000(air) vs $1800 (2013 MBP)
