ATT DSL 6Mbs more like 3 on a good day....lol.
Just noticed the download failed and will take 3 more hours this morning.
I have had a deposit on Starlink since February but haven't got billed for the full kit. Seems to still be in Beta.

Also, how much are you paying for your ATT DSL service? I'm sure they have better services for the same price or cheaper. You may want to shop around.

It cost $70 a month wit 150 GB data cap. There is nothing else available in my area. I grandfathered in and they do not offer it anymore. 4G Lte is the only other option with no towers close by. The neighbor has a hotspot and can only get 1-2 Mbs from Verizon or ATT. Another neighbor has Viasat but on gets 2-3Mbs with 200 ms latency which is about what I get with my DSL.
Att has a main line fiber running down the road but it's a main hub line and they won't tap in to give us service. We are just screwed here until Starlink is available.

Thought I’d piggyback on this thread. Just got my M1 air.

Haven’t had a pc in about 3 years. First mac. Kind of a learning curve for sure. Still watching videos and playing with setting. Loving the track pad.

Figure for my light use the M1 should last for 5-6 years. Honestly a $300 windows laptop would work fine for my usage. But want the ecosystem.

Me too. Been having hardware issues like Wifi issues during setup. I rebooted twice. It's on Big Sur 11.5.1. Currently upgrading to macOS Monterey to hopefully resolve?

I just picked one up from Best Buy to try out. I'm having WiFi issues too. I'm trying to decide if I want to get another Mac or stick with my PC. I have a new iPad Pro after trading in my old iPad Pro.
This Air kind of seems like redundancy with my iPad.

I can confirm that upgrading to Monterrey seems to have resolved the Bluetooth/Wi-Fi issues.

If you are familiar with the iPhone you will get familiar with MacOS. Go into preferences for iMessages and turn on iCloud. Go into FaceTime settings and turn on WiFi calling. Also, under the conversation menu on iMessage are options for Remote Desktop sharing.....macOS is a very polished system loaded with features.

Thanks. Working my way through the setting and way apple does it. Similar but very different than windows.

The damn dots one the top left is so awkward. Lol.

What. A. Machine. Wow. I traded my late 2013 13" MacBook Pro for this. I mainly use this for watching videos/sports, surfing the web and writing emails. The speed is unbelievable and the weight is wonderful.

Anyone else change from a MBP to MacBook Air?
You and I should have near identical experiences. I upgraded from a mid 2012 MBP, and man is this an amazing machine in its own right, but a helluva upgrade as well.

My use case is very similar to you, a lot of Internet browsing, YouTube, email, and some light productivity applications. This M1 Air (base model in my case) almost feels like overkill, it's that nice.

This the best computer I've ever purchased, really really happy with it, and to top it off, I bought it for less than $1,000.

Yup I paid $790 after trading in my old MBP. I think it’s an unbelievable deal!

I just picked one up from Best Buy today. They are on sale, $100 off with limited stock. I was going to go to the Apple store and pick one up that was way beefier and I was running into the dilemma of if I should just order a pro since the air was getting up there in price as I started adding stuff to it.

I've been on windows and Android since the Iphone 3g and my last Mac had a 3.5 inch drive and like a 50mb hard drive lol so it has been a bit. I didn't want to piss away money on it if it wasn't going to work out but I didn't want to get something cheap and end up with a bad experience.

Anyway, the base m1 air is perfectly fine for moderate browsing (dozen tabs and more), email, etc. Totally impressed and I'll probably hand this off to my daughter when I get sick of it. I already have a PS5 for gaming. I'm so impressed with the Mac I might dump my windows server as it is getting old and replace with with a Mac. I just need to research how to handle the extra drives / symlinks etc and make sure Plex will work fine as well as my bit torrent client.

Nice machine though, very pleased. Wasn't going to get the base model but I'm glad I did because its plenty for 90% of what I'd use it for.

That cap is sadistic

I hope to use MBA for music (Logic Pro) and FCPX (video) as well. Mine will arrive next week or so. I am preparing my Intel macbook pro 2019 to sell.

My new iPad Pro works much better than this M1 Air in my opinion. I'm going to keep this Air for the tryout period but will probably take it back.
I'm downloading Monterey to see if that solves some of the problems.
The iPad Pro is better ?

Why ? Can you give us feedback?
Well, the Air is absolutely magnificent but I really wanted to future proof my investment. I have a 2019 16" that I traded in for store credit which made the new 14" MacBook Pro cost $600+. I wanted the new screen, cpu and tech.. I will be scooping a MacBook Air for my son at some point though.

Depends on what you are using it for. I can't get the iPad Pro away from my wife. She loves the simplicity. I've been using this new MacBook air for a week now. I'm very hard to please when it comes to a computer but this new Air is so well designed and has more than enough power for everyday use it's a steal at this price.
I personally picked this up for a tryout to see if I would be interested in the one coming next year and right now I think it will be a good replacement for my old cheapy Windows laptop.
I built my present Windows computer last year with AMD parts which is my main computer I use during the day.
