You do realize that they are not able to do this, right? I already stated this above and going through with it will not guarantee you an iPhone.

They are done with the deposit because they were probably caught. The website that I posted mentioned that these stores will not be able to let you pre-order until the end of the week.
I appreciate the heads up, but Radioshack is trying to improve it's visibility with customers and potential customers. It seems like they want to go the extra mile (i.e. accessory credit & dropping the $50 requirement).

Worst case, I get an iPhone a day or two later. In the meantime, my trusty 3G S will fit the bill. Since I'm out of town on launch day+2, should be past the initial rush with stores awaiting delivery in a couple of days.

Best case is I go to Radioshack the morning following my trip to get my new iPhone activated, get a bumper or shield, or case free...and trade my current iPhone in without using one of my credit cards or possibly exchanging money at all.

They dropped the $50 deposit because they were not given the go to do it. It has nothing to do with wanting customers.

The only problem is is that this does not guarantee you a phone at all. You will basically just any other person walking in after launch to get one. If this is the case, I would walk into an Apple.

You could be right. Might double order with someone else, just in case. Thing is, I think it's really a pre-pre-order. A "pre-order" deposit isn't required tomorrow, either. Wonder what the PIN would be for.

Well, technically, it is not even a pre-order as pre-orders are delivered to you. You are reserving a copy, but it has been written that even that is not a guarantee. No RadioShack knows how many they will be getting. This was probably another, if not the, reason why they were forced to stop taking the orders and collecting money.

You are being lied to, and it may work out for some (maybe even a lot), but that is a risk I would not want to mess with.

The Pre-order PIN is a lottery ticket. There are only 20,000 Iphone 4 allocated to Radio Shack. Your changes of getting a Iphone 4 from radio shack are slim to none. Your best bet is from www.apple.com early tomorrow morning.

A manager of a radioshack called me and told me this.

preorder

Hopefully Apple will allow preorders at 12:01, and ship them early ahead of the 25th date, so those that pre ordered can get them early.

When I asked Mr. Jobs about it, he said "Please go away" in response to me mentioning it's bad business to wait until launch day to allow customers who preordered to receive them. Makes no sense. Defeats the purpose of preording. But anyway, I'll try.
