Probably will just get buried here but I feel I shall put a point in.

I own a 16GB iPad 1, it's a good tool I use it daily and have done since I purchased it just after the iPad 2 was released.

While I am going to get an iPad 3, I have heeded the often wise advice of this forum, and avoided being a "release day tester" as first generations of new models tend to have the most issues.

Good for you.

As a consumer you are entitled to purchase a perfect product
that's fine, but there is no need to create ANOTHER thread about it. Just return it and move on.

I understand that the person returned his..and I'm sure his reasons are sound. But why post it here? So I will question mine? It's grandstanding at best...and of no use to other readers....

i know right. i get tired of seeing these threads also. Whatever happened to the days of just doing something and not posting it on macrumors, facebook, or twitter???

My release day iPad 1 and release day iPad 3 have no issues and came in perfect cosmetic condition. Everything here is way overblown. You have understand forums like this *cater* to people who are having issues -- so it seems like most people are experiencing them.

It also attracts obsessive compulsive people (I mean the real deal, not just throwing that term around). In addition to going through 15 iPads to find a perfect one, they likely touch their doorknob 5 times before they leave the house, and turn around in a circle ten times every time they use the toilet.

You will get a lot of down votes for posting this, aside from getting a lot of 'OCD" labeling and hateful posts. But Im glad that you know what quality to expect from a device and should not settle for anything less.

bc there is no need to have 1,000 topics of joe blow returning his iPad.

those and the OMG what case did you get? OMG did you splurge for 4g? OMG what model are you typing on at this exact minute...and if it isn't this exact minute, what iPad would you want to obtain in the future???

What happened to Macrumors being an informative place? It has now been overtaken by completely useless posts day after day.

So are you saying MacRumors is only accepting positive threads about Apple products? If not, what percentage of negative vs positive threads are acceptable to you?

IMO a forum is one of the best places for Apple engineers to receive direct customer feedback. If we only report positive comments, Apple quality and innovation will suffer. If many people are experiencing the same problem, there should be a proportional number of threads so Apple recognizes the seriousness of the problem.

To be honest, although it abuses Apple's return policies, I think this is a very sensible thing to do if you have space on your credit card. Just ensure you get them back to the store in good time ;)

From other postings I've read here by people who are obsessive about the tint issue, and have bought/returned many iPad 3s, about 1 in 10 iPads at the moment are pure untinted white. So, buying five of them means I'm unlikely to find a good one right now.

Where do you get this info? So 90% are flawed? That would make the iPad 3 a flop in my book as far as what Apple was hoping to achieve screenwise. But maybe untinted white was not their objective. Just those certain customers who set their own standard of that they believe the screen qualities should possess.

At this point I have no idea. I just enjoy my new iPad.

that is not what i am saying at all. but why do we need another thread on someone returning their iPad when there are already 100+ threads already in existence?? There are some threads out there that have TONS and TONS of posts and having voting polls etc. so everyone who has a screen issue will reply in that thread. There are countless threads from other uses with the same screen issues. why do we need ANOTHER thread for this guy to let everyone know that he is returning HIS iPad when he can post that in the other threads?

The other thing...just like when you go read reviews online. More people come out when it's negative rather than positive experiences. I'm completely happy with my iPad 3....i think i should create a thread where i am joyous and thankful for the high quality iPad i received and how I would never think about returning it!!!

It gets old man. same goes with the posts about...should i upgrade or should i wait for iPad 4? what is the iPad 4 going to have? I'm thinking about the specific case for the iPad 4 is it available yet eventhough it hasn't been announced? lol ridiculous

believe me, apple engineers or even their web people, never read here......the closest they come is their support pages...too much wild west here to be valid...

The sad thing is most of the post you see here are childish slams at people on both sides of the coin. I don't see a lot of helpful threads on here since the launch. (Maybe that's the reason). Most responses tend to be who can get the most up votes for the best one liner or insult. If Apple engineers get info from that, they need a new source.

most of the posts on here nowadays are useless and people just craving attention. Why does it matter what case I have for my iPad and if i am currently typing on it in this exact thread or if I am currently connected to 4g while using my new case while typing in the thread lol.

The people who create good quality threads are the ones that include polls to see how many people are having issues and to have those people post in the same thread. We know there are issues...so why does one guy have to post that he just returned his when there are plenty of other threads discussing the same thing in greater detail?

I love the one over on the ipad accessory board. Fedex missed the drop date due to whatever reason, and now we're supposed to boycott fedex.....AND the case mfr....

sheesh....really?

It's no different then those people who have a shrine to apple at their home or bedroom.
Have pictures of SJ's in various poses & apples with one bite taken from them in hermetically sealed boxes with SJ autographed picture.

Then anyone who has the slightest issue with an apple product will be condemned to reap the wrath of an apple fanatic who lost the ability to have rational thinking & speak only to protect their beloved products name.
Sometimes I wonder if these same people have weekly G2G with other apple fanatics to chat about how great apple is and anyone who believes any differently needs to be destroyed.

I would be disappointed if Apple engineers didn't follow forum posts. The computer company I work for does. Even the local tropical fish stores in my area monitor a number of fish forums.

And when the poll's do not tilt in their favor, they make up excuses. ;)

We aren't talking about a person who takes one iPad back that has a defect, and then gets a good one. That happens and I have no issues with someone returning a defective product. I'm sympathetic to people who received a highly anticipated device to open the box and discover a problem.

However, if you are going through between 5-15 iPads in a row all supposedly with exact same issue -- there is something wrong with that person--not the iPads. It's not a pursuit of perfection for an expensive product, but rather an obsession.

I do think some posters here are so irritated by the obviously ill people here that they immediately jump on anyone who mentions a problem. However, after a little followup its generally obvious if someone has a real issue with their iPad, are ill, or are lying.

I do not have a shrine to Steve Jobs or Apple by the way. They are just a company that makes things.

Same thing happens with other brand-name luxury products people "worship" (e.g., cars, designer clothing, numerous electronic gadgets, etc). Reminds me of the many Old Testament passages where people are worshiping molten gold figures. Unfortunately they all have bad endings; God destroys them.... Yikes, I better take down my car picture...lol.

Complaining in these threads only serves to keep them bumped to the top.

I'd recommend reporting the opening posts or contacting a moderator about it.

I have not added them up, but it seems like many of the people who have had multiple returns are from the UK. Anybody else noticed that?

If there is a higher return rate in the UK, it could be that their stock all came from one large shipment that had a high percentage of defective units (one particular factory and all manufactured in a narrow time frame). What may further exasperate the problem is if the major retailers were recycling the returns rather than sending back to the manufacturer.

The US has many POEs and surely received multiple shipments from all factories and manufacturing date ranges. So the US would be less impacted if the bad units were coming from a single source & date range. Just a theory.

There is ZERO moderation. They encourage people to make more posts to get silly badges for how many posts. It's all about quantity and not quality.

Are you new to the Internet? That's how we do things around here! :p

It's been the same since the 80s/90s! I was having flame wars on Vax computer forums quite literally before some people posting here were born! I never knew that one day the world would get involved in the same kind of thing.

then you certainly should know better...I would not brag about it....

As a consumer you are entitled to purchase a perfect product

What? No you're not. You're entitled to accept or decline what the seller is offering. If it doesn't meet your standards, you can not buy it in the first place after making an informed decision, or you can return it.

So it was you I was battling with over the DEC Vax systems.....lol. I worked for DEC up in their old Maynard Massachusetts facility (the old wood mill building).

Funnily enough I remember how many Internet newbies back then used to separate.... everything... by multiple... ellipses...

Don't know why...
