I'd wait a month until the 3rd party guys in your local area start doing screen repairs on the cheap. 6 screen replacement costs around £40 in my area and that includes calling out to your home to do it. 7 should be similar.

That's a terrible advice, actually. You're not only going to void the warranty of your brand new phone but probably also compromise the IP67 rating. With all that adhesive and gaskets used, I'd never ever let that phone but repaired by anybody except Apple.

But, that will void your 1 year warranty with Apple and possibly effect the waterproofing.

Warranty I couldn't care for. Same as Apple Care, never had it or anything like it on any Mac or iPhone in nearly 20 years. Always had everything fixed myself or a third party on the cheap. But the waterproofing yes actually, forgot about that. Wouldn't trust that to anyone that wasn't authorised OP.

My bad. For me the waterproofing is the no.1 feature here (phone regularly gets wet in jersey pocket when cycling, rains a lot here).

But, but, but, iPhones screens don't scratch...

Which is why I listen to no one and always use a screen protector. I had a Belkin InvisiGlass Ultra fitted in the Apple Store.

This is why screen protectors are an absolute requirement. People who pretend they use their phones without screen protectors for weeks/months/years and have no scratches are simply ignorant.

Glass screen protector day one. Always.

With the new waterproofing, I'll never take my phone to a 3rd party again.

Each and every year I buy my iPhone and then call up AppleCare and add it over the phone. I never have to have my phone inspected I never have to take it to the Apple Store. I just call up giving the serial number and they add AppleCare plus to my phone.

I would suggest doing this then waiting A little bit of time and make a claim go to the Apple Store and get the screen replaced. They are the only ones when the screen is replaced that calibrates the touch screen sensation on the phone. None of these places that replace screens for cheaper have the machinery to do the touch screen calibration that Apple does. I had my screen replaced on my 6S plus at the Apple store and the last 15 minutes of the replacement process is when they calibrate the touchscreen. Granted I had a single hairline fracture under the glass of my 6S plus an Apple store ended up placing the screen for free

I'd buy a tempered glass screen protector-- it will hide the scratch as well as protect your screen from future scratches.

Remember Rock, Paper, Scissors.

Not surprising wood scratched the screen. Paper is made from wood, and paper always beats rock.

Sorry to hear about your screen. That'd be annoying.

Tempered glass screen protector is a must. I got one of those full screen ones that have black bezels. Looks great and you can't even tell it's on. Only downside is it makes the home button slightly recessed but it doesn't affect performance.

Ok here's a photo of the damage. Arrow pointing to the worst in all lighting.
Wow. I'm waiting on my jet black 128gb today and I guess I need a screen protector lol. I was going to go caseless but I think I'm going to look into buying an apple leather case for it on those days I feel like I need one like when I throw it in my purse.

I wonder if my 6+ tempered glass screen protector would work? I have an extra one from it.

Does it fit the entire screen? How much total with the case do they charge to install it?

The 7+ screen protector has a bigger speaker cutout so the 6+ one wouldn't work. The Belkin one does not cover the whole screen.

@iphnhelp - Why didn't you take out Applecare +?

Well honestly just got the phone Monday and was considering all that. A case is in the mail and will be here tomorrow.

I've had almost every iPhone and this is the first time this has happened- I never use a screen protector. All it takes is once!

I think I still may get AppleCare + today, then take it in to the Apple Store. Or just go in right when they open today and see what they say.

My thought is, because this is brand new sometimes they are instructed to capture any devices that come in in the first weeks so they can check them for quality. Maybe I'll get lucky! I don't feel any expectation or entitlement.

Own up to your own mistake. Get AC+ and you can get the screen replaced for $29.

If you purchased it using a credit card with accidental damage protection, you can file a claim to get reimbursed the $29.

Also, what's the policy on AppleCare plus? If I bought that now does it still make it elegible for repair? I guess, how would they know it was scratched before I got apple care? Should I do that before I talk to Apple, or will it matter?

IF you take it to apple store and they notice the scratch, they can refuse to add the AppleCare +. You can always contact AppleCare + and have them run diagnostic test and if every test passes, you certainly can add it that way. I don't think the diagnostic test can detect scratches.

You all are terrible. That's like buying a car without insurance, wrecking it and then getting insurance online and claiming an accident afterwards. It's fraud.

Man the f**k up, go to the Apple store and explain the situation. Ask if you can buy AppleCare +. If they say yes, do it. If they say no, move on or pony up for a replacement screen.

It really agitates me with how many people on here think it's ok to f*ck the system because of something stupid they did. It's a damn phone, not a priceless work of art. **** happens. Either prepare for it or not. Don't be a dick and try to side step the system because you're a douche.

Never used a screen protector and have no desire. No scratches, cracks or the like. Micro scratches that you can only see under bright light, probably. Other than that, never had a problem.

Most likely Apple or wherever you buy it will want to see the phone. I would put a screen protector on it and see if you can live with it. Most screen scratches pretty much disappear under one.

Forget the moralistic tone you have, paying for the insurance then paying for the screen replacement isn't fraud. Trying to hide the damage and get a new phone for free would be fraud. Doing the math it's cheaper to pay for one screen replacement than buying AppleCare if you don't want it.

I don't think it's f*cking the system at all. Apple charges so much for these phones, you'd think they'd be more shatter and scratch-resistant (Jet Black). So if you can get away with this? So be it.

Sorry I disagree with "getting away" with something because you don't like the price. You did agree to pay that price for a nonessential consumer product.

Actually that is not the case any more. The lowered the price of a screen replacement under AC+ to $29.

edit: NM, just realize it is $129 now for AC+. I had an SE previously, and it was still $99.

Wow you're angry. I mean, you're correct, but really angry! :)

Sure, but if there's a loophole, why not take advantage of it. Apple should make you come in the store then, and NOT do AppleCare over the phone or chat after it's purchased

The fact that you're saying you're "getting away with it" should really signal to you that what you're doing isn't right.

You knew how scratch resistant the screen was before you paid for it. You can't use that as justification to get a little something extra after the fact.

I would just be straight up with them. If they let me add AppleCare+, then yay for me. If not, I buy an out of warranty screen replacement. It's not like it's even that much more money. Certainly no reason to make yourself a liar.

There is no loophole. You're lying by omission to create an advantage for yourself.

You go ahead and be honest lol, that's cool. If I break my screen and I still am within the 60 day window, you best believe I'm gonna call and get AppleCare, wait a week and then oops! Broke my screen. Thankfully I was smart enough to get AppleCare! ;)

I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully it doesn't come to that and your screen stays in good shape. If not, well, I'll just hold out hope that you'll do the right thing. :D

I've never broken a screen (knocks on wood) yet so I think I'll be fine. I have one of those full screen tempered glass protectors :) Might still get AppleCare before the 60 days is up anyway. Debating. Only going to have this phone for a year.
