Why do you guys even entertain people like OP? Glass screen protectors are dirt cheap and offer the same level of feel. I could understand if we're still living with plastic protectors and curved displays but there is no reason unless you like scratches and don't care. On top of that I received my 2 Spigen glass screen protectors before my 7 Plus hit the door.
OP, you got what was coming to you so take it like a man/woman!!! Also you should have picked up a super cheap case before you even used the phone, not days after you started using it. I received 3 cheap cases before I even got my phone. I guess I plan a little better than most people here.

I'm looking for but not seeing one for the 7+?

Dunno... I'm in the UK. When I picked my phone up I said to the guy "I hear a rumour that you supply and fit screen protectors", he replied "that rumour is true". He then told me to supply and fit a Belkin InvisiGlass Ultra would be £25 which came down to £20 ish with an employee discount.

Thanks, I am headed to my shop now, they probably have something I can use. I managed to keep my 6 4.7" screen in great shape but this + is a *lot* of surface area to keep mindful of.

If you get the screen replaced I wouldn't be confident of the water resistance anymore. Replaced by Apple or a 3rd party. Once that seal is broken I just don't feel as though it will ever be right again.

I tried many glass screen protectors for my 6s Plus and none fitted right, so I just stuck with plastic ones. When I realised Apple would fit it, and keep fitting one until I was 100% happy, I went with it. Also, if they have to swap your device under warranty/AC+, they will supply and fit a replacement FoC (so said the guy who fitted mine)

Edit: Obviously not if you are getting an AC+ swap due to accidental damage

I trust Apple to know how to repair their products and stand behind the warranty.

And here's what happened:

Got to the Apple Store about 25 min before opening. A large line was already formed, lots of people needing tech support and lots of people there to buy an iPhone. About 10 minutes later I was talking to a support guy.

I started by saying, "This is really embarrassing" then explained exactly what happened, how it fell off my iPad and slid across the floor and how dumb and sad I felt. He looked it over, and looked up some options on his iPad.

Because it's Jet Black they don't yet have replacement devices, and new devices in the box are weeks and weeks out. And they don't even have replacement screens yet. He recommended having them order a replacement black box device- it's the same as new but not in a retail box. If we were to order a new one, it would be weeks before it came in. The replacement would be here in half a week.

I said okay, and what would it look like if we did that? He said, Well I know how bad this makes you feel since you just got the phone Monday, so this exchange would actually be covered under warranty. No charge to you. Amazing.

So, obviously I did it. The new black box replacement phone should be here in the coming days.

He also recommend, if I wanted to get AppleCare +, to do it before the swap, because once you swap with a replacement you can't add AppleCare to it. But you can transfer the existing AppleCare to a swap. So I'll probably do that when I go back.

Wanted to share for others who experience this same thing. It's always worth asking, and always worth telling the truth! Thanks, everyone who chimed in, for the advice!

You gotta praise Apple for paying for your mistake.

Actually that is not the case any more. The lowered the price of a screen replacement under AC+ to $29.

edit: NM, just realize it is $129 now for AC+. I had an SE previously, and it was still $99.
It's still 99 for SE

It's just the iPhone 7 is bigger model, cost more too, so apple care plus reflects that

You're still 29 plus any applicable tax for a screen repair though, for the 99 apple care plus SE

Wow you're angry. I mean, you're correct, but really angry! :)
Probably because these kind of loophole finders are the reason prices go up and loopholes disappear. If you see one or know, at least try to keep it quiet .

But no really, if folks abuse a policy and the company ends up losing more money because of this, you think they're going to make the CEO take a big paycut?

Or do you think they're going to raise prices?

Then people complain and try to find other ways and then it's a never ending cycle.

But the CEO and executives will always get their pay and pay raises.

I definitely do appreciate your planning and your responsibility. And you're right, I should have taken these steps and have learned for the future. But isn't it great that Apple stepped in anyway and wen't beyond what they had to do. It's nice when stuff works out even when we don't deserve it and I'm thankful for that in this case.

Thanks!

That's awesome! Glad to hear you were straight up with them and they took care of you!

I hear you. I'm more concerned about the fact that people feel comfortable with compromising their own integrity for what amounts to tiny amount of money (the difference between buying AC+ and simply paying for the screen replacement).

The financial impact on me is nil; I don't think a few dishonest people are going to cause iPhone prices to go up when Apple literally scraps hundreded of phones a day coming off the assembly line for not meeting their QA standards. So it doesn't anger me, but it is definitely sad.

He could replace the screen without AppleCare plus for $129. With AppleCare plus it would be $158 (129+29).
But AppleCare will cover you twice so it's 129+29+29 = 187 vs 129+129 = 258

Not to mention it's an additional year of coverage of Apple care so just in case anything technical happens *knockonwood*

It's covered.

And in your own scenario it's only a difference of $29 for that additional year and extra incidental coverage. It doesn't even have to be screen. He could drop it in a blender or get it run over by a truck and he can replace it for 99.

Another interesting fact the Apple Store guy told me: you buy AppleCare for $129, it's for 2 years. If you have an IUP or Next and you trade your phone in after 1 year, you can call Apple and get a refund for the remaining part of the AppleCare, presumably, half. I hadn't heard that, but the Apple Store guy said it!

That's correct. In fact, you can get a prorated refund of your AC payment at any time.

Edit: Hang on, Reading comp fail on my part. On Next, yeah that makes sense. On IUP? I'm not so sure about that.

Really

Because I thought it was the price of the phone + apple care divided by 24. So if you have paid 12 payments (requirement) then you've really only had half the price of apple care paid...so what would you get a refund on? Not sure about next and how that works as I'm on Verizon.

I would understand if you turned in your iPhone earlier then the 12 payments (by paying the difference, you'd have to have made at least six payments).. you'd have to pay up to 12 payments to get an upgrade... theoretically with that you may get the portion of those, the apple care portion, refunded since you didn't actually use it.

But in the scenario you described, I find it hard to believe because they distribute the apple care evenly...you don't pay for it all at once.

On IUP? After one year, wouldn't you have paid half of the cost of AC+ in the form of installment billing and you'd start a new loan after trading in your iPhone?

I do know if you paid for AC+ outright that you can get a prorated refund if you cancel after one year and haven't used your deductibles.

You all are terrible. That's like buying a car without insurance, wrecking it and then getting insurance online and claiming an accident afterwards. It's fraud.

Man the f**k up, go to the Apple store and explain the situation. Ask if you can buy AppleCare +. If they say yes, do it. If they say no, move on or pony up for a replacement screen.

It really agitates me with how many people on here think it's ok to f*ck the system because of something stupid they did. It's a damn phone, not a priceless work of art. **** happens. Either prepare for it or not. Don't be a dick and try to side step the system because you're a douche.

Sorry, the world isn't so black and white. Most managers are going to tell you to go ahead and pay for apple care since the phone works and you're within the 60 day eligible period then have you do the screen replacement. They get the sale for the Apple Care + and you get the discount screen repair. Funny thing is they've actually made more money off of you.

After all, its not a free screen replacement, there is a deductible for each repair. If Apple didn't allow this to occur they would've kept the requirement that Apple Care + be purchased only at time of sale rather than extend that period out. Apple wants people to buy their expensive insurance plan and keep the repair sale in house instead of losing the current and future repair sales to third parties.

You guys may be right this may not apply to IUP, but for Next or Verizon it would work!

I do this exact same thing every year when I trade my phone. I call up and cancel the Apple care plus and they refund me the unused portion of the warranty
