Ah I can see what has happened here.

The poor winner made a typo in his bids, look at the dates... he meant $109, not $1009.

The winning bid!

brianna3842( 0 ) US $1,009.00 Jul-23-08 05:52:23 PDT

His previous bids!

Since the second place bidder was Nigerian, I suggest you relist your auction. It looked too good to be true and really was.

That is what I was thinking. Typos happen like that a lot.

Thread starter, still no reply from the $1009-bidder?

My son sold his v1 about five weeks before 3G iPhone release and he put his SIM card in a $10 Go Phone, and informed AT&T that he would not need the data plan until he purchased the 3G iPhone. They accommodated his request and we received credit. He purchased his 3G iPhone Black and the Data Plan was added for $30 per month.

Burton, you might be talking about the 3G iPhone; I'm making reference to the v1.
State, I am talking about the iPhone 3G... Looks like I need to learn how to read the title lol. Does anyone know how this would work for an iPhone 3G??

heres what I did with a recent sketchy winning bid on ebay. the guy emails me saying he's traveling, cant confirm his address bla bla bla. So I did a reverse address lookup online, got the phone number, sure enough the guy who answers never heard of this person and knows nothing about an ebay purchase etc. He is very appreciative of the info. I emailed the bidder and told him I can't ship to an unconfirmed address until he sends me a certified check/or western union/money order...

Of course you know that certified checks / money orders can also be falsified.

Well I sent my phone off and got the 1500 and sent back the 400 today via western union. then I was at lunch and my teacher/friend told me that this is a scam. So I think I need to clsoe my bank account down now is this right? Should I close my account so they can't take my money back? If i sent the guy the phone (i have receipt), why can't I keep the money?

your an idiot who just got pwned if you sent someone $400 from a $1500 check. the check will bounce and you will owe the bank $400. damn common sense is not very common these days.

ps you just lost $400 and your iphone! good luck getting it back, keep us posted. unless these posts were done in fun :)

yes close your account!! hurry!!!

Close the account, stop the shipment immediately! You can still get your iPhone back...Keep Us Advised.

Even if you close the account, the bank will still get their money. Basically, what you've done is passed a bad check, committed fraud (ignorance is not a good excuse in the eyes of the court) against a banking institution, drained your bank account of $1900 and probably lost your iPhone.

Who cares. If this kid doesn't understand the concept of "what is too good to be true, probably isn't true", this will teach him a lesson.

Marksman has 873 posts, so I find it hard to believe that someone with that many posts can get scammed. But, like you said GREED is a costly lesson. I think my Dad said GREED is an institution for the BLIND! :(
I think he's just messing with us, to poke fun of the OP.

Wow, I hope he's just trying to mess with us. I've been offered this deal many times. It is always a fraud. If you do accept a check or money order like that, you need to take it to the post office and verify it (or so I've heard). Nonetheless, never send them money with the phone, so dumb. I'd go ballistic if I got robbed of $400 and an iPhone...

Let me guess, you shipped it to someones son/friend who is working in Nigeria?

Sold mine on Craigslist....

But wait are you guys trying to tell me that the check I just cashed and the balance that I sent back by check isn't going to pan out.

We agreed to $1001 for my 8GB 2g iPhone and $150 shipping to Lagos, Nigeria plus $150 insurance.

So they gave me a $3,000,000 check to deposit. Asked me to send back a check for $2,000,000. They said I could keep the rest as I was doing a favor for the recently deposed General Uganzidi who's widow was having trouble with her bank account there in Lagos.

Everything is okay, right?

Scam.

The scam price used to be $999. $1009 is just $10 more, but all imaginary money.

I sold an iphone 8GB for $1billion gazillion dollars. Cashed the cheque and now im earning 20% on the bahamas sipping coconut juice.

It's a shame that eBay (and now Craigslist in so many ways) is becoming one big pile of scam-artists and fake auctions. I miss the good old days of eBay. :(

Good luck recovering your iPhone, bank account, and eBay account in so many ways!

It seems the intelligence of many on this board is sub-par based on some of the posts I've seen...

That being said I have $1M in internet money that I'd like to send someone in exchange for a check for $5000 of real money. Any takers?
