That's a little gamble you will have to go thru. Just pray she will pay.

BTW - That got me thinking of selling my current phone and getting the 3G. It would help alot with all that extra cash towards the "Mac of my Dreams"

0 feedback on a 2 year old acct? That smells fishy.
I'm betting the following email/s are getting sent.

I bought this for my brother in <insert US State> but my friend in Africa needs a new phone. Can you just ship it to her. Her address is:
I'll send payment and notification of payment ASAP

or

Hi,
My <child> is in Africa studying <insert random subject> and needs a phone. Please ship it to:

I'll send payment and notification of payment ASAP

within 2 hours you get 'offical' looking paypal emails saying the payment has been made BUT is being held by PP till shipping information is sent.

Its a fun scam to play with I had 2 of them on the line for about a week. I had 1 ready to wire me $50 for gas and shipping charges :D

If this does go through, make sure you follow the Seller Protection Policy found here:

https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=p/gen/ua/policy_spp-outside#spp-policy

I sold a T-Mobile Dash on Ebay back in February. Two months later I got a charge back notification from PayPal saying that the credit card was used fraudulently. My PayPal account balance was now negative $160. I submitted all the info pertaining to the policy above. About a week later the chargeback was settled and I was covered under the SPP.

The buyer did not have any feedback, I shipped to a confirmed address, but the seller's account was not verified. I think this was my main mistake in this entire transaction.

Now my future auctions will require 2 positive feedbacks, and a confirmed and verified Paypal account. While this won't protect me from hijacked accounts that qualify into that above category, but my risk will be less.

Just wanted to pass along some advice, good luck with the sale.

From my ebay experinece with high price auctions 9 out of 10 times if the winning bidder has "0" feedback, you're not going to receive payment..

You might as well send a second invoice and start the auction credit procedure..

If it we're me I would make sure I have the money in hand before shipping, not just in the PayPal account, transfer from your paypal acct and withdraw from the bank account then ship.

A quick note - everyone here seems to overly generalize.. please don't.

I have sold plenty of high-end pro audio gear to customers with zero (sometimes, even negative) feedbacks. At the same time, I have had deadbeat bidders who have 1000+ feedbacks.

Just exercise common sense when (if) receiving payment - if it is paypal, ship only to a confirmed address. Make sure the shipment has signature confirmation (recipient signs for it) and insure the shipment.

I wouldn't advise collecting a personal check, because they can bounce 4-5 days after being deposited (sometimes even up to a week) So if this person is paying with a check or even a money order (yes i have had a money order bounce as well) hold the payment for a week and only then, ship it out.

As long as you follow paypal's rules for seller protection, you will be fine. I have had plenty of charge backs but I follow their rules all the time, and I have been covered for every single incident.

A bit off topic, how did you like the Skullcandy FMJs? I'm considering getting them.

Back on topic, good luck, I hope you get your money! A 2 yr account with 0 feedback is odd but not unrealistic. I've had my account for several years but have never bought or sold anything, so have no feedback.

Hah, I'm hoping I'll get $350 or above on mine seeing as that seems to be the average they're going for on ebay right now. Someone bidding like 2.5x what other ones are going for definitely smacks of shenanigans.

I would definitely place a disclaimer in there about "only bidders with (5) or more transactions with eBay" this would weed out many of the first timers and bring the serious bidders to the bidding frenzy. Also, must pay with PayPal and no CHECKS or MONEYORDERS and you should be good to go...(The bidder at $420 with all those positive transactions (97) was probably your last "good" customer.)

If they send you a check, make sure your bank notifies you if it is legit or not. I sold a razr once and I deposited the check and everything seemed fine. The bank even put the money in my account. Then a couple of weeks later the bank took out the money and charged me for giving them a false check.

All I've gotta say is ouch.

yea
i got their full name and address
theyre from the US (not gonna say anymore out of respect to their privacy)

they had been bidding the whole time
but the price was shot up by someone from nigeria
and she put in the winning bid higher than they did

oh then you're screwed.

recently a criminal organization from nigeria set up their own email service which can pretend any email address like payment@amazon.com even tho that email address belongs to Amazon. So what they do is using the fake email address send you an email says payment has been made, and ask you to ship but actually when you log into amazon account ,there is not any payment there.

ebay is the same

Be careful of the "I'm in Atlanta, Georgia or I'm in Georgia scam" and they want to have you ship it to them via UPS and then they send you a FAKE PayPal Confirmation saying "the funds are received by PayPal, but will be released only after you send your Tracking Number for their NEW iPhone, from an email address like "paypalcustomerservice@ultimateemail.com" where it looks like a PayPal address only in the subject line and 9 times out of 10 we just reply without looking at the detailed email account. It will look like a PayPal confirmation, but when you call PayPal direct, which is what I do on big ticket items, they'll tell you that money is never held, but sent directly to your account. Be extremely careful...

That bidding pattern looks suspicious and I don't believe for a second that is not a scam.

What are 1st gen Iphones going for? $500? $600? I haven't checked but this seems it would be the high end. Look how the earlier bidders were bidding it up in increments of $10, $20 and $30 at a time, trying to find the prior bidders max. But your winner had already set his max bid at more than $1000 on 7/23! And your second highest bidder bids it up by $200 and then by $300.

That whole pattern is just weird. Even if the winning bidder pays, your liable to get a chargeback after the phone is received.

I sold mine on E-Bay for 975 yesterday. The bummer part is the buyer had an emergency and had to fly back to Nigeria and now I need to wait for his brother to send me the funds but because of some kind of banking law I have to deposit their check and send them back some of it. apparently they have to make checks for certain amounts only. So they had to make it for 1500.00. But they said I only have to send them back 400.00 so I actually sold the phone for 1100!!!!!! Anyways, it is working out good for me for sure. As soon as i get the check tomorrow or tuesday I am going to rush the funds to western union and send them out and they will have their phone, the rest of their money and I will be rich.

Are you kidding right? Do I smell sarcasm or not? Am I stupid!?

Perhaps I could sell you one of these:

To reiterate what I said earlier...

Someone worked you. Sorry man. That blows...

yea i did notice that......kinda worried me
but then again, i have 0 feedback too
could be a new account like mine

if i dont get a payment, i'll either list it again (hell, it cost me 95 cents) or send a second chance offer to one of the bidders who actually had feedback

Make sure you send it with signature required at delivery. At that price, simply having delivery confirmation isn't enough.

Not necessarily true; when the PS3 first came out, my brother in law's younger brother got a hold of one and asked me to ebay it for him since he had no feedback. With no warning, Paypal decided to make themselves "transaction police" and held my funds until the seller had left positive feedback (I have almost 400 positives, no negatives, no neutrals). I understand there were a lot of bogus auctions going on, but they held about $900 of my money (once I got the payment notification, verifed the money had hit my Paypal account, and had given my brother in law's brother the money out of my checking account; then the next day, I went to transfer the money from Paypal to my checking account, and the funds changed to "on hold" status..), completely refusing to release it until the buyer approved. Not that that would happen in this case, but it does happen.
