Just touched a 5C. This should have been the more expensive model imho.

I've had a 3Gs for years. The plastic seems very strong to me. I never even bothered to put it in a case. I think it would take a pretty hard impact to crack it.

The plastic on the 3G and 3Gs was prone to hairline cracks, which just got worse over time. It was much more noticeable on the white models, but it happened on the black ones too.

A lot of members' feelings in this thread is really no different from the 3G/3GS being more comfortable to hold in the hand than the 4 and onward. I've never personally held the 5c and I'm sure it's different/better but the 3G/3GS was rather cheap feeling with the usual poor build quality common to plastic.

Nevertheless, the 5c doesn't look like a flagship model compared to the 5s so no go.

I also really like the 5c, but only for the in hand feel. It's great. So put me in the boat with the plastic shell and 5s internals, but I don't think it should be the flagship phone, there should still be the aluminum model.

There's a reason why the 5C is not selling well, its priced too high. Selling it for more would be a bad move by apple. I'd have to say plastic feels like plastic regardless of what phone we're talking about.

This makes NO SENSE.

The iPhone 3GS was priced at $549 (2010).
The iPhone 4 was priced at $549 (2011).
The iPhone 4S was priced at $549 (2012).

And now, Apple takes the iPhone 5, but then gives it an improved body, improved front-facing camera, improved LTE radio, and improved battery, still sells it for $549 - and people are screaming that it now "PRICED TOO HIGH" .

REALLY?

The other phones, some of which sold in reduced form (bumped down to a pathetic 8GB) were sold at $549, and no one cares. But now, with the iPhone 5 sold in an improved form as the iPhone 5C at $549 is causing people to act like Apple is suddenly charging too much.

Compared to the specs of the 5s, the 5c is way overpriced. A $100 difference for a much better camera (burst mode, true tone flash, slo-mo, better sensor.. etc), touch ID, A7 & M7 chips?

I liked the 5c and feeling you get when holding it. But in my opinion, I would pay the extra $100 to get the latest tech rather than saving $100 and be a year behind.

I think the price of the 5c is to make people go for the 5s. They succeeded in that, and the numbers prove this easily.

I will give OP's the benefit of the doubt that the 5c is good to the touch, but THEY DON'T LOOK EXPENSIVE. Yeah we are shallow, looks matters. But OK OP likes the 5c and it's cheaper, I say Valla Con Dios.

That pretty much summarizes it all.

The thing I have the biggest problem with is the snobbery towards the 5c... On June 7th 2009 apple was still releasing plastic flagship phones and everyone was eating it up. Now that they have migrated to aluminum and glass everyone wants to discredit apple's ability to make great phones no matter what they are made of. For me, the ability to save 100 dollars, have a more comfortable phone (I know, totally opinion based), and still have a great mobile experience is worth it! It kind of feels like people around here think people chose the 5c because they are poor and that isn't the case most of the time.

Well thought out and expressed. Exactly how I feel (stated better than I could).
I wish I could justify getting rid of my iP5 and purchase a yellow 5C, but I just can't.
I already went through that tough tug-of-war with the iPad by getting the iPad Air and simply can't get myself to think likewise with the iPhone.

If they only had an all black (and even an all white) iPhone 5C...now that would be something.

Here's the thing too, people keep saying that the iPhone 5s's hardware won't be optimized (in terms of applications) until about a year from now. Now I don't know about you but I'll be standing in line for the iPhone 6 because it will likely be a new hardware design and even BETTER internals just in time for all the 64 bit app goodness. Right now, you'd be hard pressed to see an actual speed difference between the iPhone 5c and 5s.

Same here although I do like the 5c there is just something about the 5 / 5s just so thin and the edges perfectly smooth. When I look at a 5 or 5s I think of aircraft quality or like a precision watch at least in the phone world.I would think the 5c was a little bit better if they would have matched the glass with the color on the back that way when you are holding it you can't so painfully obviously tell that its a iPhone 5.Its surely not a flagship phone but it has its place no doubt and has a chance of opening up a permanent line of mid-level iPhones that through typical trial and error could excel in sales to a level unexpected.........................................Could also be the end of that line as well only time will tell.....poet and I didn't know it!

Feels like any other quality plastic phone to me. Little bit more rigid then some of the competition but that's only because it's smaller and doesn't have a battery cover.

When watching the keynotes didn't they just show it was lacquer coated injection molded plastic?

When I pick up something that's ultra high quality plastic I'll wonder what material it is. When I picked up this 5C I wasn't under the dilution it was anything other then plastic.

Doesn't really matter to me in the end. I put my phones in plastic cases anyway. Oh and although I don't own one I like the feel of the newer otterbox cases over the 5C housing.

No, what I meant was, they should have made the 5S plastic and the 5C aluminium. The flagship model with the best internals should have had the plastic case.
Obviously 5S is the better phone in terms of silicone, but the 5C looks better than the 5S. So combine the best looks with the best silicone imho.

I own a 5c and completely disagree with you.

I'd love to know how many of these people in here who have fallen in love with the plastic 5c has teased samsung owners about their plastic phones in the past?

I own a silver 5s and I have played with a blue iPhone 5C. Personally, I think it's a beautiful phone (especially the blue one) as well; most of the photos of it on the Internet I've seen just doesn't do justice to it. The 5C is very much reminiscent of the iPhone 3G I had years ago, but lighter and more comfortable to hold.

I was impressed by the 5C when I went to the store to get the 5S. If, and only IF, there was a black 5C with the 5S internals I might've went for it, even for the same price as the 5S.

The plastic feels incredible, and it looks amazing. It looks better than 5S imho. They should dump the aluminium and go with plastic from now on for all models.

And this certainly is not the same kind of plastic on other plastic phones. I have never seen plastic looking like that.
Thats because most other manufacturers spend the time and money to texture their plastic/polycarbonate.

The sla prototype plastic we churn out here during development is smooth and glossy too. If we slapped some lacquer on it. It would be close to identical.

What if they did? Nobody claimed all plastic phones look good. I hate the way Galaxy phones look. Not because they are plastic, but the overall design with the plastic just looks terrible. It wouldn't look any better with aluminium either. The material alone doesn't make or break a look. The entire design matters.

Most complaints from apple fanboys were about the use of plastic in samsung phones, not the actual design.

I never really understood that. Like I stated in my earlier post, apple was still making plastic phones with the release of the 3GS in 2009. There's nothing wrong with using plastic when making phones. Apple excels in making phones that "feel good". How many threads have you seen since the 5c came out about how people can't put their finger on what they like about the 5c, but it feels good.

There's a difference between slimy, cheap-feeling Samsung plastic and plastic from a company that actually gives a crap about how a device feels in the hand.

I used to use a cyan Nokia Lumia 920 as my daily driver, and that device felt every bit as solid and premium as any other phone, including the iPhone. I would put the 5c in the same category. Nokia and Apple plastic is not the same as Samsung plastic. The difference is immediately apparent just from holding any of those phones.
